1.Influence of Emodin Gel on the Fibroblasts of Hypertrophic Scars in Rabbit Ear Model.
Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(4):862-866
This research was aimed to study the effect of Emodin gel on the hypertrophic scars of rabbit ears. A total of 18 rabbits were randomly divided into Emodin group (9 rabbits) and control group (9 rabbits) after the successful animal model for hypertrophic scars had been made. The rabbits in the Emodin group were treated with Emodin Gel, while no special treatment was given to those in the control group. The other living conditions were all kept the same in the two groups. The diameter, hardness, and expression of transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) and interleukin-1 (IL-1) of hypertrophic scars were measured after 4 weeks. Transmission electron microscopy was applied to observe the ultra-structure of the fibroblasts of hypertrophic scars. But there was no difference between the two groups in the diameter of hypertrophic scars (P>0.05). The hardness, expression of TGF-beta and IL-1 in hypertrophic scars in the Emodin group decreased, compared to the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.05). Transmission electron microscopy showed that the fibroblast and organelle lessened in the cytoplasm and the collagen fibers dissolved obviously. The study showed that Emodin gel decreased the hardness of hypertrophic scars in the rabbit ears, and inhibited the proliferation of fibroblasts in local area. Therefore, Emodin gel treatment would be one of the methods to prevent and treat hypertrophic scars.

2. Clinical use of non-calcium phosphate binder: An advance
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2010;31(1):94-96
Controlling serum phosphorus levels is critical in patients with renal failure. Currently phosphate-binding agents are widely used to reduce phosphate absorption in patients with end-stage renal disease. If possible, serum phosphorus level should be reduced without disturbing calcium homeostasis or increasing accumulation of potentially toxic elements. Aluminum hydroxide and traditional calcium-based phosphate binders are commonly used to control serum phosphorus level. Aluminum hydroxide can effectively lower serum phosphorus level, but aluminum can accumulates in the body and results in toxic effect. Traditional calcium-based phosphate binders tend to promote hypercalcemia and calcium overloading, and accelerate cardiovascular calcification. Therefore aluminum-free and calcium-free phosphate-binding agents have become the focus of study; however, agents like sevelamer hydrochloride and lanthanum carbonate are not widely used due to high price, although they are effective in controlling serum phosphorus level. New generation of phosphate binders, such as colestilan, nicotinic acid and magnesium salt, are cheaper than their previous counterparts, but their long-term effect still needs to be observed. This article summarizes the progress of non-calcium phosphate binders in treatment of end-stage renal diseases, hoping to help clinical drug usage.

Low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation method that has been used in the treatments of stroke patients. Our purpose was to investigate the effects of low-frequency rTMS on the hand motor function recovery for stroke patients. After searching from electronic database from January 1990 to April 2012, we collected randomized controlled trials explored the low-frequency rTMS effects on the hand motor function rehabilitation. A total of 7 comparisons (N = 216) from 5 articles were included in this study. We summarized the effect size by calculating the standardized mean difference (SMD). Summary of effect size (SES) indicated positive effects of low-frequency rTMS on the finger motor ability (SMD = 0.58) and hand function (SMD = -0.98). Few adverse effects occurred. The evidence showed that low-frequency rTMS could improve the paretic hand recovery after stroke.

6.The value of MRI in diagnosing the premature closure of growth plate after trauma
Chinese Journal of Radiology 2000;0(11):-
Objective To evaluate the value of MRI in diagnosing the premature closure and other deformities of the growth plate followed physeal injury. Methods Twenty-one children with suspected or known premature closure of the growth plate followed injury were examined with X-ray and MRI. In addition to conventional T 1WI and T 2WI for all cases, 8 were also examined with spectral pre-saturation inversion recovery sequence. The value of MRI in diagnosing and imaging the premature closure of the growth plate (PCGP) was analyzed. Results PCGP was seen in all 21 cases, 6 in the distal femur, 6 in the proximal tibia, and 9 in the distal tibia. 19 patients with angular deformities and 2 cases with both angular and shorten deformities. MRI can much more clearly visualize the cartilage of the growth plate than conventional X-ray. A stripe of low signal intensity through the cartilage of the growth plate indicated premature closure of the growth plate. 8 cases with spectral pre-saturation inversion recovery sequence can visualize the PCGP more clearly than with Spin Echo and Fast Field Echo. Conclusion MRI has an important role in diagnosing and visualizing the PCGP. The configuraton of the PCGP can be accurately mapped with MR imaging and treatment planning is facilitated.

Objective To investigate the voice recovery by means of observing the changes of the acoustic parameters in the patients after vocal cord polyp operation by microlaryngoscope. Methods Follow up on the voice changes by means of morphology evaluations and voice analysis applied to 30 cases of patient with vocal cord polyp before the operation and in each week for 4 weeks after the operation. Results 86.67% patients were observed to have improved external appearance of their vocal cords 2 weeks after surgery. There is statistically significant difference in 2-,3-,4-week respectively after the operation compared with the preoperative group(P0.05).Conclusion 2 weeks is needed for the patients with vocal cord polyp to have improved vocal cords and one month needed at least to have the voicing functions recovered. Therefore the resting time should be proposed to patients with vocal cord polyp as a resting guideline.

Objective To monitor the production of nitric oxide(NO)and to study its role during ischemia-reperfusion of kidney transplantation in rats using electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR). Methods LEW male rats (age of 8 to 10 months, body weight of 200 to 230 g) were included.Of them 30 were assigned to donor group whose kidney grafts were stored at 0℃ for 24 hours. The remaining 45 rats were equally divided into 3 groups (15 in each group).Group 1 served as controls. In Group 2,allotransplantations of kidneys were performed, and both original kidneys were removed during reperfusions. In Group 3,2 hours prior to the operation, the donors and the recipients were both treated with L-NAME at the dose of 30 mg/kg.Reperfusions were done to the transplanted kidneys and both original kidneys were removed. The production of NO was measured with ERP at each time point before and after blood flow recovery. The creatinine level,GFR and the tissue carbonyl content were recorded on the first and fifth days after operation. Results In Group 2,the production of NO remarkably increased after 15 minutes' reperfusion and kept increasing for 120 minutes. Then the level fell to normal after 210 minutes. In Group 3,the recorded creatinine levels were higher than those in Group 2 at the 24th hour ( P

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2006;0(23):-
Integrin is a kind of crucial adhesive molecule on the membrane, and it exerts its function through activating its intra-cellular effectors. One of the most important effectors is integrin-linked kinase (ILK),which is a serine/threonine protein kinase located in focal adhesions and has a key position in transducing many of the biochemical signals. It plays an important roles in regulating fundamental processes such as cell-matrix interactions, growth, proliferation, survival, differentiation, migration, invasion and angiogenesis under both physilogical and pathological processes.
