We conducted a questionnaire survey on the hospital staff to evaluate the effects of the electronic medical recording system 1 year and 4 months after introducing it. It was found that the adoption of this system was rated high as 72% of the staff responded positively. Approximately 43% considered that the introduction of the system resulted in reduced workload, whereas 23% considered the system to be a burden. This finding suggested that the system had brought about an improvement in business efficiency. The adoption of this system made it possible to retrieve specific data from a huge collection of diagnosis and treatment data of patients generated every day by using a warehouse system. We used the electronic system for collating the data regarding the quality of medicine we provide and for improving the accuracy of cost accounting of various diagnosis and treatment departments. The introduction of this system led to an improvement not only in the efficiency of business but also in the quality of medical care and hospital management.
