This paper presents a remote controlled multimode micro-stimulator based on the chip nRF24E1, which consists mainly of a micro-control unit (MCU) and a radio frequency (RF) transceiver. This micro-stimulator is very compact (18 mmx28 mm two layer printed circuit board) and light (5 g without battery), and can be carried on the back of a small animal to generate electrical stimuli according to the commands sent from a PC 10 meters away. The performance and effectiveness of the micro-stimulator were validated by in vitro experiments on the sciatic nerve (SN) of the frog, where action potentials (APs) as well as artifacts were observed when the SN was stimulated by the micro-stimulator. It was also shown by in vivo behavioral experiments on operant conditioned reflexes in rats which can be trained to obey auditory instruction cues by turning right or left to receive electrical stimulation ('virtual' reward) of the medial forebrain bundle (MFB) in a maze. The correct response for the rats to obey the instructions increased by three times and reached 93.5% in an average of 5 d. This micro-stimulator can not only be used for training small animals to become an 'animal robot', but also provide a new platform for behavioral and neurophysiological experiments.

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical effects of self-invented cartilage-perichondrium autografting for the repair of articular cartilage defects, so as to reconstruct the joint surface.
METHODSAmong total 11 patients with hand injuries from Oct. 2005 to Oct. 2009, 7 patients were male and 4 patients were female, ranging in age from 17 to 50 years, with an average of 29 years. All the patients had serious injuries of finger joint and were treated with cartilage-perichondrium autografting. After the operation, function exercises were performed, and composite scores of joints at hand were used to evaluate therapeutic effects.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed-up from 1 to 4 years with an average of 24 months. The operation of all the patients were successful, and there were no infection. The mean score was (41.0 +/- 0.63) in 2 years after operation. Eight patients got an excellent result (> 38 scores), 2 good (from 35 to 38 scores) and 1 bad (< 30 scores).
CONCLUSIONThe cartilage-perichondrium autografting method is effective to reconstruct the defects of articular cartilage, and decrease the disablement rate of hand injuries.

Background: Tuberculous disease of spine (spinal TB) is under-recognized in tuberculous (TB) meningitis. The objective of the study was to evaluate the frequency, clinical and neuroimaging changes, andoutcome in the patients with spinal TB. Methods: All the patients with spinal TB admitted in the twolargest tertiary hospitals in Kuala Lumpur from 2009 to 2017 were recruited, the clinical features weredocumented, the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine was performed. Clinical outcome wasassessed with Modified Rankin scale (MRS). Results: Twenty two patients were recruited. This wasout of 70 TB meningitis patients (31.4%) seen over the same period. Eighteen (81.8%) patients hadconcomitant TB meningitis. The clinical features consisted of systemic symptoms with fever (63.6%),meningitis symptoms with altered sensorium (45.5%), myelopathy with paraparesis (36.4%). Thefindings on spinal MRI were discitis (36.4%), spinal meningeal enhancement (31.8%), spinal cordcompression (31.8%), psoas abscess (27.3%), osteomyelitis (22.7%), and cord oedema (22.7%). Allexcept two patients (90.9%) had involvement in psoas muscle, bone or leptomeningeal enhancement, features that can be used to differentiate from myelopathy that affect the parenchyma only, such asdemyelination. Unusual manifestations were syringomyelia and paradoxical manifestations seen in 3patients each. The outcome were overall poor, with 68% having MRS 3 or more. Conclusion: Spinal TB is common in TB meningitis. The outcome is overall poor. A heightenedawareness is crucial to enable early diagnosis and treatment.

Objective To explore the quality of life (QOL) outcome in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR). Methods A prospective trial was conducted to survey the QOL status of 101 AR patients, in contrast to that of 121 healthy individuals and 97 chronic pharyngitis (CP) patients by generic questionnaire medical outcomes study short-form 36-items health survey (SF-36), and to survey the most troublesome problems of AR patients by disease-specific questionnaire rhinoconjunctivitis quality of life questionnaire (RQLQ). The correlation between SF-36 and RQLQ had also been analyzed. All the results were analyzed statistically. Results By the assessment of SF-36, the scores of 3 domains ( x ± s, the same as follow, the scores were 78. 02 ± 18. 37, 56. 13 ± 17. 49, 78. 81 ± 16. 47, respectively) of AR patients were less than those (84.00 ± 18.36, 74.69±14.13, 83.78±14.31) of healthy individuals (P<0.05), and the scores of 7 domains (the scores were: 91.78 ± 11.78,79.16 ± 30. 23, 78.02 ± 18.37, 56.13 ± 17.49, 78. 81 ± 16. 47, 67. 66 ± 39. 57, 68. 78 ± 13. 65, respectively) of AR patients were similar with those (94.12±6.88, 80.67 ±32.38, 73.57 ±17.96, 59.73 ±16.58, 80.41 ±17.01, 63.58 ±39.99, 66.43 ±13.71) of CP patients (P>0.05). By the assessment of RQLQ, in AR patients, both the nasal symptoms and the practical problems got the highest scores (the scores were 2. 70 ± 1. 29, 2. 53 ± 1. 37 respectively). According to the assessment of the correlation between SF-36 and RQLQ, the correlation was weak (r = - 0. 199~ - 0. 526,P < 0.05). Conclusions The QOL of AR patients decreased compared with that of healthy individuals, but similar with that of CP patients. The most troublesome problems in AR patients were nasal symptoms and the practical problems. Both SF-36 and RQLQ were suitable for assessing the health status of AR patients. SF-36 and RQLQ each covered a different part of the QOL of AR patients, and the combination of the two questionnaires could improve the QOL measurement

Objective To delimit the natural infectious focus, including the distribution of wildlife, species, ecology of intermediate hosts and final host of Angiostrongylus cantonensis, as well as the routes of transmission and epidemiological characteristics and wildlife of human Angiostrongylus cantonensis, based on human diverging cases identified in Shenzhen, southern area of China. Methods Data including rate of infection and density of Angiostrongylus cantonensis among different hosts in 12 different areas in Shenzhen was collected, using microscope to inspect homogenate liquids of snails. Wild mice were captured with mouse cage to examine the adult Angiostrongylus cantonensis. Using larva isolated from wild-snails-infected rats to observe the life cycle of Angiostrongylus cantonensis. Results Wild life of Angiostrongylus cantonensis existed in the southwest part of Shenzhen with its majority intermediate hosts as Achatina fulica. The overall rate of infection was 31% in wildlife and final host was found to be Rattus andersoni, Achatina fulica which were extensively distributed in the shrub region of Shenzhen because of suitable climate, humidity and vegetation for generating the life cycle of Achatina fulica. Human infected Angiostrongylus cantonensis was mainly due to eating raw snails or vegetables contaminated by larva of Angiostrongylus cantonensis. The peak of infection was seen from April to November in Shenzhen area. Conclusion Wildlife of Angiostrongylus cantonensis existed in the southwest part of Shenzhen with major wildlife reservoir including fresh water snail and wild mouse. The existence of natural focus Angiostrongylus cantonensis was now recognized as an important source of human angiostrongliasis in Shenzhen area.

OBJECTIVETo observe the influence on prognosis and possible side-effects of arginine in
METHODSMulti-center clinical trial, randomized double blinded patients with severe trauma and burns. and placebo control methods were employed in the study. Eighty-six patients with severe trauma and burns were randomly divided into control (C, n = 45) and arginine treatment (Arg, n = 41) groups. The patients in Arg group received arginine in dose of 0. 4 g x kg(-1) x d(-1) orally, while those in C group received same dose of placebo (tyrosine) for 7 days. All the patients in both groups were given diet with equal calories and equal nitrogen content. The changes in the wound healing time, hospital stay, and the incidence of side-effects of the medication in both groups of patients were observed and compared before and after the supplementation of arginine.
RESULTSThe wound healing time and hospital stay days of severe trauma patient in Arg group (n = 29) were 11. 1+/-2. 8 d and 19+/-6 d, which were all obviously shorter than those in C group (13. 2+/-5. 5 d, 22 +/-6 d, n =33, P <0.05). On the other hand, in severe burn patients there were no significant difference of the wound healing time (20+/-5 d vs 22+/-8 d, n = 12, P > 0. 05) and hospital stay days (28+/-6 d vs 29+/-8 d, n = 12, P >0. 05) between the Arg and C groups. In addition, in C and Arg groups, the occurrence of the side-effects were seldom (2. 44% vs 2. 22% , P = 1. 000) and it disappeared when the supplementation of drugs was stopped.
CONCLUSIONOral feeding of arginine is beneficial in enhancing wound healing, reduction of hospital stay days in severe trauma patients and with little side-effects, but it is not beneficial to improve the prognosis of severe burn patients. Maybe this is due to inadequate number of case involved in the study.

The methods of literature metrology and data mining were used to study the research topics and social network analysis of traditional Chinese medicine for constipation. The major Chinese databases were searched to include the research studies of traditional Chinese medicine for constipation. BICOMS analysis software was used to extract and collect the main information and produce co-occurrence Matrix; gCLUTO software was used for cluster analysis. Data analysis was conducted by using SPSS 19.0 software. The results showed that the number of studies on traditional Chinese medicine for constipation was constantly increased, with two literature volume peaks respectively in 2003 and 2006. Related studies have been published in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities have published, but the studies in developed areas were more than those in developing areas. There was little cooperation between research institutions and the authors, especially the cooperation between different areas. At present, the research field of Chinese medicine for constipation is divided into five research topics. In terms of specific traditional Chinese medicine, angelica sinensis is in the core position. The results showed regional imbalance in the number of studies on Chinese medicine treatment for constipation, as well as little cooperation between researchers and research institutions. The research topics mainly focused on the evaluation of clinical efficacy, but the research on optimizing the prescriptions was still not enough, so the future researchers shall pay more attention to the studies of constipation prescriptions with Angelica sinensis as the core herb.
