1.A Semi-longitudinal Study on Physiques and Nutritional Status of Korean Youth in a Seoul Special City.

This study was carried out to know physical growth and development, physical and nutritional indices and body fat weight and so forth by semi-longitudinal research method to measure body height, body weight, chest girth and sitting height of 260 of general high school and 306 of vocational high school 3rd grade students who are living in Seoul and born from 1966 March 1st to 1967 Feb. 28th. The results are as follows; 1) Physical growth and development. Growth in terms of body height showed one step straight linear development, and that of body weight showed two step straight linear development in each section in high school. The age of cross over between two sexes of general high school students was between 10.6 to 12.3 years in body height, between 10.8 to 13 years in body weight, between 11.2 to 14.6 years in chest girth and between 10 to 13 years in sitting height. The age of cross over between two sexes of vocational high school students was between 10.5 to 12.5 years in body height, between 10.5 to 12.5 years in body weight, between 10.5 to 12.5 years in chest girth and between 10.5 to 12.5 years in sitting height. In this periods, female group was superior to male group and after that male group was superior to female group again. The growth of vocational school students was superior to that of general school students in both sexes in terms of body height and body weight significantly. 2) Physical growth and nutritional indices. In all cases of relative body weight, relative chest girth and relative sitting height, it was found to be increasing thereafter with advancing ages. In cases of R hrer index and Kaup index, it was found to be reaching to normal state thereafter with advancing ages. In each case of Vervaeck and Pelidisi index, it was found to be increasing and reaching to normal state thereafter with advancing ages. 3) Total body fat by vital measuring method. Average values of body surface area, body volume and body density are measured indirectly by using the body height and body weight as Table 12, 13 and 14. The rate of body fat weight of general high school students was from minimum 11.96+/-3.53%(3.33+/-1.10 kg) to maximum 18.25+/-6.46% (9.08+/-2.01 kg) in male and from 25.88+/-3.62% (7.96+/-0.78kg) to 43.00+/-7.22% (12.91+/-1.21 kg) in female. The rate of body fat weight of vocational high school students was from minimum 11.20+/-2.88% (3.32+/-1.13kg) to maximum 17.16+/-5.88 (10.83+/-3.16 kg) in male and from minimum 25.11+/-2.26% (7.91+/-0.89 kg) to maximum 42.16+/-7.96% (13.22+/-1.75 kg) in female.

2.A Study on the Catecholamine under the Room Temperature and 5 degrees C Refrigerator Environment in Rat.

Under the extreme change of the environment, animals react physiologically to adapt to the stress and secrete catecholamines. Cold exposure is a kind of the environmental stress. Author tried to determine the amount of catecholamines in rat urine as a parameter of physiological response to cold stress. Urinary catecholamine was measured by using HPLC with fluorescence detector, coation exchange column prepacked with Bio-Rex 70 and ammonium pentaborate as catecholamine eluent. The amount of dopamine in normal state rat urine was 42.0 ng, but under the low temperature of 5 degrees C, the dopamine amount was increased to 221.25 ng/5 ml. Above findings are suggesting that catecholamine secretion, especially dopamine, increase in the stressful condition such as cold exposure.

6.Radiographic Measurement of Normal Adult Cervical Spinal Region in the Korean Population

Radiographic measurement of cervical spine is very important in cervical spine injury especially those without fracture. Authors measured the retropharyngeal space, retrotracheal space, lordortic curve and sagittal diameter of cervical spinal canal in 148 cases of normal adult male. The results are as follows: 1 . In normal Korean adult male maximum retropharyngeal space is 7mm in C, level and Smm in Cs level. Maximum retrotracheal space is 16mm in C, level. 3. Loss of normal lordotic curve is shown in 21 cases(14.2%), 4. Average sagittal diameter of C, level is 21.27mm-it's the largest of all the cervical spinal cana1s, and that of C, level is 16.15mm-it's the smallest.

8.Spinal Paragonimiasis.

Spinal paragonimiasis is an uncommon ectopic manifestation of the lung fluke. In this paper eight cases of spinal paragonimiasis treated in the Severance Hospital are reported and the literature is reviewed. Differantial diagnosis is usually difficult because of the similarity of symptoms and signs with benign spinal cord tumors. positive chest X-ray findings, positive skin test and pleocytosis of the spinal fluid, especially of eosinsphils, are valuable findings in the diagnosis. The extradural space in the 1ower thoracic region is the most frequently affected area. Laminectomy with excision of the lesion supported by chemotherapy is the treatment of choice. When treated early, prognosis of this type of manfestation is usually favorable.
9.Changes of Measles Specific IgG after Active Immunization of Measles in Korean Children.

PURPOSE: Despite preventive measures, measles outbreaks ocurred in 1989, 1990 and 1994 in Korea. Especially, the proportion of immunized school aged children and adolescents was increased, and the reason was, in our opinion, primary and secondary vaccine failure after measles immunization. In this context, we attempted to evaluate the changes of measles specific IgG levels in various age groups of immunized children. METHODS: From Jun. 1. 1994 to Mar. 31. 1995, the sera were collected from immunized children aged 1.5 to 12 years who had no history of natural measles. We measured the measles specific IgG using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA: SIATM Measles IgG Kit, SIGMA Co. St Louis, Mo). RESULTS: The seropositivity of immunized children aged 1.5 to 12 years was 86.1% and 11 year old age group showed lowest level, 66.0%. As children were getting older, the measles antibody level decreased significantly( r=-0.2264, p<0.001 ). CONCLUSIONS: Above results partially explain the reasons for recent measles occurrences in immunized children and suggest that it is necessary to modify the current immunization schedule of measles in Korea.

10.Three Cases of Repeated Mole.

Three patients(1%) with recurrent molar pregnancy were managed arnong 317 registered molar pregnancies at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hanyang University Hospital between 197S and 1991. Reeurrent molar pregnancy seemed to be oaiated with a worsening histology and an increased incidence of proliferative trophoblastic sequelae in the successive episodes of hydatidiform mole. The treatment of recurrent mole is discussed and the literature regardmg recurrent rnolar pregnancy is reviewed.
