1.Morbidity in Minh Khai precinct, Phu Ly Town

The health status and morbidity was evaluated in residents of Minh Khai precinct, Phñ Lý Town and morbidity was linked to environment. Subjects of this study were households of this precinct. This was a retrospective and cross-sectional study. The results found that 22.83% of households have had at least one illness person, in which rate of households with coughing person(s) was 37.22%. Acute morbidity was different in age groups, with highest frequency observed in-group of 0 to 11-months; the frequency decreases steadily and then increases again in-group of 60 years

2.Enfluence of a new model of communication health education "Woman for environmental health" club on people's knowledge and practice on environmental hygiene

Communication Health Education (CHE) is the cheap sollution but it achieves high level of effectiveness and sustain in health care. In this study, we applied a new model of CHE-Club “Woman for health and environment". Objectives: assessing effectiveness of applying the Club "Woman for health and environment" on people's knowledge and practices for environmental hygiene in Minh Khai precinct, Phu Ly town. Method and subjects: Interventive study with 2 groups (case and control). Study subjects include: households and women representing the households. The sample size for each group is 250. Assessing efficiency based on efficiency index. Results and conclude: The club “Woman for environmental health" resulted in improvement on people's knowledge and practices of environmental hygiene. The knowledge and practices have improved significantly comparing to before intervention and are much higher than in the control group (the efficiency indices achieve 22.7-187.9%).

3.Hospital waste management status at six general hospitals at provincial level

A cross-sectional survey on the management of the waste performed in 6 provincial hospital Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Can Tho, Dong Thap showed that: Total quantity of solid wastes: 0.6-1.27kg/bed/day in which clinical wastes 18.2-18.9%, chemical wast 0.3-0.5%; the collection and classification of solid waste did not followed fully the regulation issued by the MOH, there were 3 standard ovens to burn clinical waste, but only 2 was used. In all 6 hospitals the standard knowledge of treatment of liquid and gaz wastes was not completed fully. The difficulties in the management of hospital wastes are shortage of the staff with necessary hnowledge, lack of equipment and materials, financial deficiency.

4.Knowledge on hospital wastes and hospital waste management at six general hospitals at provincal level

The results of the interview of 203 staffs in 6 hospitals – 3 hospitals with treatment of wastes (Phu Tho, Quang Ngai, Dong Thap), 3 hospital without treatment of wastes (Yen Bai, Quang Nam, Can Tho) about knowledge on hospital wastes and hospital waste management injury rate caused by sharp wastes among the interviewed staffs show: Medical staffs in both two groups have poor understanding about the impacts of hospital wastes, and hospital waste management (classification, collection, transport and treatment wastes). The injuries rate in the staffs that interviewed is 20.0%, and there is no significant difference beteen two groups.

5.Soluble Epoxide Hydrolase Inhibitory Activity from Euphorbia supina Rafin.

In our search for natural soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitors from plants, an extract of the dried whole plants of Euphorbia supina Rafin was found to significantly inhibit sEH activity in vitro. Phytochemical investigation of E. supina resulted in isolation of 17 compounds (1 - 17), including triterpenes (1 - 4), phenolic compounds (5 - 8), and flavonoid derivatives (9 - 17). The structures of the isolated compounds were established mainly by extensive analysis of the 1D and 2D NMR, and MS data. All of the isolated compounds were evaluated for their sEH inhibitory activity. Among the isolated phenolic compounds, 8 was identified as a significant inhibitor of sEH, with an IC50 value of 15.4 +/- 1.3 microM. Additionally, a kinetic analysis of isolated compounds (2, 5, 8 - 11, 13, and 17) indicated that the inhibitory effects of flavonoid derivatives 10 and 11 were of mixed-type, with inhibitory constants (Ki) ranging from 3.6 +/- 0.8 to 21.8 +/- 1.0 microM, whereas compounds 2, 5, 8, 9, 13, and 17 were non-competitive inhibitors with inhibition Ki values ranging from 3.3 +/- 0.2 to 39.5 +/- 0.0 microM.

6.Anti-inflammatory Triterpenes and Glyceryl Glycosides from Kandelia candel (L.) Druce.

Phytochemical investigation of Kandelia candel resulted in the isolation of six triterpenes (1 - 5) and two glyceryl glycosides (6 and 7) and their structures were determined by comparing the spectroscopic data with those of reported values. In present study, we described the inhibitory effects of fractions and isolated compounds from K. candel on pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-12 p40, IL-6, and TNF-alpha) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs). Results indicated that compounds 3, 6, and 7 showed potent inhibition on IL-6 production (IC50 values at less than 0.5 microM, respectively). Meanwhile, compounds 6 and 7 exhibited strong inhibitory effects on the production of TNF-alpha (IC50 values of 1.7 +/- 0.1 and 5.5 +/- 0.2 microM). Compounds 1 and 3 were also showed the inhibitory effects on IL-12 p40 production (IC50 values of 8.9 +/- 0.4 and 3.3 +/- 0.1 microM, respectively).
