This study was investigated to compare the staining resistance of soft denture liners. Specimens wee made of Coe-soft. Coe-Comfort, Soft-liner, Visco-gel, and were stored in 1% methyleneblue solution for 24 hours. The amounts of color change before and after treatment with mono-poly and thermocycling were measured by colorimeter(TC-6FX, Tokyo Denshoku Co. Ltd, Japan) for evaluation of staining resistance. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. 1. The staining resistance of Visco-gel was increased, but there was no changer of staining resistance in Coe-soft, Coe-comfort, and Soft-liner after treatment with monopoly. 2. The staining resistance of the Coe-comfort was the least in all soft denture liners. 3. The staining resistance of Visco-gel and Soft-liner were decreased after thermocycling.

Recent studies suggest that apolipoproteins may be better predictor of ischemic heart disease than are plasma lipids, such as total cholesterol and high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C). To examine this hypothesis, plasma levels of major lipids and major apolipo-proteins were measured and their derivatives were calculated in 30 male patients with ischemic heart disease(16 angina pectoris and 14 old myocardial infarction) and 30 age-matched male healthy controls. Plasma levels of lipids were obtained by conventional methods and apolipoproteins by Rocket immunoelectrophoresis. Levels of HDL-C, HDL2-cholesterol(HDL2-C), and apolipoprotein-AII, and ratios of HDL-C/total cholesterol, HDL2-C/total cholesterol, and apolipoprotein-AI/apolipoprotein-B were lower in the group of patients than in controls. Levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) and apolipoprotein-B, and ratios of lDL-C/HDL-C and apolipoprotein-AI/apolipoprotein-AII were higher in the group of patients. There were no statistically significant differences in the levels of total cholesterol and apolipoprotein-AI between the two groups. Stepwise discriminators analysis showed that apolipoprotein-B and apolipoprotein-AII were better discriminators than plasma lipids for identifying those with ischemic heart disease. One could correctly classify 78% of the cases by using the levels of the two apolipoproteins. By using the level of apolipoprotein-B, one could correctly classify 73% of the cases. There were no correlations between the levels of total cholesterol and HDL-C in the controls whereas there were positive correlations between the levels in the group of patients. In conclusion, this study showed that apolipoprotein-B was the best single discriminator for identifying the patients with ischemic heart disease, followed by apolipoprotein-AII.

This study was performed to investigate the effects of impression method and design of the retainer on the stress of abutment tooth in distal extension RPD. Three different types of direct retainer such as Akers clasp. RPI clasp, and wrought wire clasp were designed . Stress on the abutment tooth was measured and analyzed with strain gauge method. Impressions were anatomic impression technique and functional impression technique. The following conclusions were drawn from this syudy. 1.The stress at the abutment tooth on all RPD was decreased in functional impression except RPI clasp retained RPD. 2.The stress at the abutment tooth on RPI clasp retained RPD was the most smallest in anatomic impression 3.While load is increase the stress at the abutment tooth was increased, but the change of stress at the buccal side of abutment tooth was not too much in functional impression.

Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 2000;7(2):147-151
OBJECTIVE: Major depression is known to have immunologic dysfunctions, the recent studies revealed that cytokines including Il-6 and IL-1beta were increased in patients with major depression. Since molecular genetic methods have been progressed, this study was to investigate the relationship between major depression and immunologic aspects by analyzing polymorphism of IL-10 gene. METHOD: 92 patients with major depression were included and data of 146 normal controls obtained from the Catholic Hemopoietic Stem Cell Information Bank of Korea were used in this study. DNA was extracted from whole blood, thereafter amplified by polymerase chain reaction, and digested by Mae III. After that procedure, we obtained and assessed RFLP of two alleles, IL-10T and IL-10C. All data were analyzed by chi2 test. RESULTS: 1) There were no significant difference in genotype frequencies of IL-10*T/T, IL-10*T/C, and IL-10*C/C between major depression patients group and control group. 2) There were no significant difference in allelic frequencies of IL-10*T and IL-10*C between major depression patients group and control group. CONCLUSION: We did not verified the differences in frequencies of IL-10*T/IL-10*C gene between the major depression patients group and control group, respectively. But the results of this study do not declare that the IL-10 gene has no association with major depression. We do suggest that further systematic studies including various clinical variables should be conducted.

Korean Journal of Ophthalmology 2014;28(4):330-336
PURPOSE: To investigate patterns of subsequent progression of localized retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) defects and to quantify the extent of progression in normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) patients. METHODS: Thirty-three eyes of 33 consecutive NTG patients who had shown continuous progression of localized RNFL defect on serial red-free fundus photographs were selected for the study. Patterns of subsequent progression of localized RNFL defects were categorized, and extents of progression were quantified. Serial evaluations of disc stereophotographs and visual fields were also performed to detect progression. RESULTS: The most common pattern was continuous widening of the defect towards the macula (n = 11, 33.3%) followed by sharpening of the defect border after widening of the defect towards the macula (n = 5, 15.2%), continuous widening of the defect away from the macula (n = 2, 6.1%), and deepening of the defect after appearance of a new defect (n = 2, 6.1%). Four eyes (12.1%) simultaneously showed two patterns of subsequent progression. In 13 eyes that showed continuous widening of the defect, subsequent angular widening towards the macula and away from the macula were 9.2 ± 6.0degrees (range, 1.1degrees to 24.4degrees; n = 11) and 5.2 ± 4.9degrees (range, 0.3degrees to 11.3degrees; n = 2), respectively. Thirty-two eyes showed no progression of optic disc cupping. Out of the 21 eyes in which Humphrey central 30-2 threshold visual field tests were performed after progression of RNFL defects, 15 eyes showed no deterioration in the visual field. CONCLUSIONS: There were nine patterns of subsequent progression of localized RNFL defects. Among them, continuous RNFL loss proceeding temporally was the most common one. Initial progression of the defect proceeded temporally, especially in the defect located at the inferior fundus, might be at a risk of further RNFL loss temporally.
