Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 1997;8(2):109-123
New Cervicography, a Pap smear adjunct test, is an innovative cervical cancer surveillance system. It is a relatively new technique in which a photograph of the cervix is obtained without the aid of colposcope after application of 5% acetic acid. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of New Cervicography in diagnosis of cervical cancer. Pap smear and cervicogram data were obtained from 143 patients who visited the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chungnam National University Hospital from September 1996 to May 1997. Histologic specimens were obtained from patients in whom abnormalities were detected by either Pap smear or cervicogram. Specimens were taken either by colposcopically directed biopsy or large loop excision af the transformation zone. (continue)

Korean Journal of Gynecologic Oncology and Colposcopy 1996;7(3):173-181
Our aim was to identify histologic changes in cervical carcinoma tumor cells due to chemotherapy,by electron microscopic examination. Cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil were used between March 1, 1994 and February 28, 1995 on a total of 16 patients. The treatment schedule consisted of 75 mg/m2 cisplatin via iv with hyperhydration on Day 1, in combination with 1000 mg/m2 5-fluorouracil via continuous iv on Day 1 to 5. The treatment was repeated every 4 weeks with a maxinum of 3 courses. Ultrastructurally, chemotherapy induced apoptosis, indicated by condensation of nucleus and cytoplasm, fragmentation of nuclei, and apoptotic bodies. Due to repeat chemotherapy, increased levels of desmosomes were noted and parts of tumor nests were replaced by mature squamous cells. Tumor nests were reduced in size, mitochondria exhibited swelling, the endoplasmic reticulum was dilated, and infiltration of inflammatory cells increased after chemotherapy. These results suggest that chemotherapy induces apoptosis and injury to the cytoplasm and nuclei of tumor cells. However, the exact selection mechanism of the biochemical pathway of cell death is not fuUy understood. Further study of the molecular biologic actions of cell death after chemotherapy is warranted.

Borderline malignant ovarian tumor are characterized as neoplasrns exhibiting cellular priliferative changes greater than those seen in the benign form, but not showing destnictive invasion of the ovarian strama. We reviewed 14 cases of borderline ovarian tumor who had been diagnosed and treated at Kyung Pook university hospital from 1987 to 1992. We nnalysed the clinical features, treatment and prognosis which were compared to 24 cases of the epithelial ovarian cancer at the same period The most common histological thpe of boderline tumnr was mucinous type (1 l cases, 79%), the next one was serous type (3 cases, 21%). In FIGO stage of Borderline tumor, 11 caseS weve stage I a, 1 with stage II c, 1 with stage gb and 1 with stage lV, and the FIGO stage of 24 cases of ovarian cancer was 8 cases with stage I a, 1 with stage I b, 2 with stage I c, 1 with II c, 2 with stage III a, 1 with stage III b, 7 with stage III c and 2 with stage 1V. The mean age of borderline and malignant tumor was 37.1 and 47.6 years.. 3 cases were being pregnant on the operatian. In the 14 cases of borderline turnor, 7 cases were managed by conservative operation, but 1 case recurred 4 years later so extirpative operation and pastoperative chemotherapy were given. The other 4 cases were managed by extirpative operation but postoperative chemotherapy was given in only 1 patient. Follow up ranged from 7 to 72 months. 12 cases were alive. 2 cases died, one was stage III b, the other was atage IV. This atudy suggeat, that it is neceasary to follow up carefully even the early stage of botderline tumor and manage as oyarian carcinama in the advanced stage.

The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1998;36(6):846-857
The purpose of this study was to compare the fitness of the IPS Empress ceramic crowns according to margin type such as bevel, shoulder, rounded shoulder, shoulder with bevel, rounded shoulder with bevel and grooved bevel. After 10 experimental dies were constructed for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated on the dies, cemented with resin cement(Bistite resin cement, Tokuyama Soda Co. Ltd., Japan) and embeded in clear epoxy resin. Each specimen was sectioned with a low speed diamond saw in both the faciopalatal and the mesiodistal direction. The cement film thickness was measured with a measuring microscope. The obtained results were as follows : 1. The fitness at the external margin was good in the following order: rounded shoulder(28.99), shoulder with bevel(31.33), grooved bevel(31.79), rounded shoulder with bevel(34.65), bevel(35.02) and shoulder(35.08). However there is no significant statistical difference. 2. The fitness at the internal margin of bevel(25.75), rounded shoulder(31.24), shoulder with bevel(32.07) and rounded shoulder with bevel(34.45) was better than that of shoulder(47.98). 3. The fitness at the axial surface of bevel(26.58) was better than that of shoulder(49.59). 4. The fitness at the central fossa was good in the following order: shoulder with bevel(38.88), grooved bevel(40.46) rounded shoulder with shoulder(46.29), shoulder(48.91), bevel(49.47) and rounded bevel(52.07). However there is no significant statistical difference. 5. Overall fitness of bevel(29.71), rounded shoulder(32.49) and shoulder with bevel(34.47) was better than that of shoulder(44.73).

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1990;19(8-9):1221-1230
Three cases of giant pituitray adenoma are reported. Two cases were operated by transsphenoidal approach and a case by transcranial approach. Transsphenoidal approach showed satisfactory results despite of marked suprasellar extension of tumors. We report rare giant pituitary adenomas with review of relevant literatures.
