1.Experimental study on bionomics of Giardia Part I. Localization and morphological variation of Giardia muris in various parts of the small intestine of laboratory mice.
The Korean Journal of Parasitology 1963;1(1):29-36
The localization of Giardia muris was determined in 8 Giardia-infected laboratory mice that were fed on a normal diet. The average total length of small intestine of the mice was 38.3 cm. Among 8 sections (to divide into 8 part from pylorus to cecal junction :Sect. I, Sect. II, ...... Sect. VIII), the optimum habitat ranged Sect. IV to Sect. V(from 14.5 cm to 24.4 cm posterior to the pylorus. Distribution rate of Giardia muris in posterior part of small intestine was higher than that in anterior part. The bile duct of 8 mice were examined, but no Giardia was found. The cyst of Giardia muris were found at the part posterior to the Sect. VII. The result of a comparison between varying average body length and body breadth of Giardia muris drawn at random from different part of small intestine of 5 laboratory mice was as follows : Maximum average dimension of the body length of the trophozoite was found at the part of Sect. IV and minimum average value was observed at the part of Sect. VIII. On average dimension of body length of the trophozoite, no significant difference was obtained among the parasites at Sect. II, Sect. IV, Sect. VI, but significant small dimension value was observed aat Sect. VIII. Coincidental figures on the part where the maximum distribution rate was shown and the part where the maximum average dimension of the body length of the trophozoite were considered as indicating the optimum site of the parasite.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(3):769-776
The anterior discectomy is widely accepted method for removal of the herniated disc material of cervical spine due to direct visualization of the lesion site. In addition, it is believed to prevent recurrence of herniation, progression of degenerative change, and to preserve normal cervical lordosis after the fusion. For more effective anterior fusion and early postoperative ambulation without prolonged external support, internal fixation technique was introducsuspected to influence the result of operation, the type of bone graft and age of the patient may be the effective factors to the late result. ed. Authors reviewed 36 patients with cervical disc herniation and evaluated the result of anteior discectomy and fusion with plate fixation. With a mean follow up of 34 months, there were remarkable symptomatic improvement at most instances and bony union in situ within 3 months in all cases after the operation. Disclosed complications were 2 cases of hoarseness which was improved spontaneously, and 1 case of dysphagia. At the comparison of the effect of the factors which were suspected to influence the result of operation , the type of bone graft and age of the patient may be the effective factors to the late result.

Journal of the Korean Knee Society 1997;9(1):116-119
Osteochondroma is one of the most common benign tumor. But, intraarticular occurrence is very rare. This tumor have been thought not a true neoplasm hut a developmental malformation or harnartoma. The authors experienced a case of intaarticular osteochondroma arising from inferior pole of pateUa, projecting into the infrapatellar fat pad. The tumor was excised surgically, and symptoms were relieved.

PURPOSE: To assess the signal enhancement by gadolinium-DTPA-polylysine (Gd-polylysine) as compared to gadopentetate (Gd-DTPA) in MR imaging of heart that have undergone ischemia-reperfusion, and to estimate the extent of myocardial damage covered bythe MR signal enhancement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A series of contrast enhanced cardiac MR images were obtained from 17 cats subjected to a 90 minutes of occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) followed by a 90 minutes of raperfusion. Time courses of changes in the signal intensity (Sl) of the ischemic area were measu red in Gd-polylysine group (8 cats) and Gd- DTPA group (9 cats). The size of U R signal enhanced area was then compared to the sizes of infarction and the area at risk revealed byTTC histochemical staining. RESULTS: Maximum Sis were obtained at 60 minutes and 30 minutes after injection of the contrast material, respectively for Gd-polylysine group and Gd-DTPA group. Signal enhancement was stronger and persistent for a longer period in Gd-polylysine group than in GD-DTPA group. Sizes of the enhanced area, the infarction, and the area at risk were about 30%, 15%, and 50% of the total left ventricle (LV) area; the difference between the groups was statistically insignificant. CONCLUSION: Gd-polylysine can be used better for a blood pool marker than Gd-DTPA in MR imaging of myocardial ischemia, due to its strong and persistent signal enhancement. The MR signal enhanced area includes both the infarcted area and a portion of the area at risk.

From 1960 through 1965, 39 cases with epileptic seizure caused by the Cystricercus cellulosae were experienced at Kaejong Mental Hospital, Okku-Gun, Chollapukdo province. The present study was carried on at the area of Chollapukdo province where Cysticercus cellulosae cases were frequently reported. Thrity-nine Cystricercus cellulosae cases(35 male and 4 female) with epileptic seizure visited Kaejong Mental Hospital . Okku-Gun, Chollapukdo during the years of 1960-1965 from various Gun(county): Okku-Gun 13, Kimje-Gun 7, and Soonchang-Gun 6. The high incidence was found at the age group of 20-49 years and the distribution of 214 subcutaneous nodules were as follows: Trunk 56.6 percent, upper extremities 26.6 percent, head and neck 9.3 percent, lower extremities 7.5 percent. According to the address of above 39 cases, taenia infestation of the inhabitants in the area was examined by questionaire form. Plain rural area (Maryong-Ri, Okku-Gun); Among 803 persons interviewed, 4.0 percent or 32 complained the output of Taenia segments. The male group showed higher incidence (6.4 percent) than the female(1.5 percent) . The highest incidence was observed at the age group of 30-39 years. Most of the inhabitants of the area had the eating habit of raw beef and pork. Mountainous rural area(Bok-Heung-Myun, Soonchang-Gun); Among 542 persons interviewed, 33 or 6.1 percent complained Taenia infection. The higher incidence was observed in the male group(8.7 percent) than in the female group(3.1 percent) , and also at the age group of 20-49 years. They had eating habit of raw beef and pork. The species of adult worm were identified by morphological examination. Totally 36 adult worms(Taenia saginata 21, T. solium 15) were obtained from 26 cases, and it was experienced that 5 T. solium were eliminated from one person.
