Therapeutic methods of western and oriental medical viewpoints for inflammatory skin diseases, especially Psoriasis vulgaris, are compared each other. Psoriasis vulgaris accompanied with lipid metabolism disorder is treated by combination of crude drugs with antiinflammatory and plasma lipid lowering activities, such as gorei-san, tokishakuyaku-san, hochuekkito, and daiobotanpi-to.

Kampo preparations were clinically used in the treatment of patients with nasal allergy. The validity of Kampo preparations is examined by means of nasopharyngeal fiberscopy. Observations of nasal septum and turbinates would be usefull for selection of some Kampo preparations used for nasal allergy.

Characteristics of Xiao-Chai-Hu-Tang prepared by fifteen patients were quantitatively examined in order to clarify how decoction procedures infulence qualities of the decoction. It was found that the fifteen Xiao-Chai-Hu-Tang decoctions showed some variations of freeze-dried extract yield and concentrations of such bioactive components as saikosaponins, glycyrrhizin and baicalin.

AIM Bio-active constituents were expected to be obtained from Dendrobium fimbriatum Hook. METHODS It was extracted with 95% alcohol, distributed by petrol, isolated via column chromatography on silica gel and purified by crystallization. RESULTS Nine compounds were isolated from the stems of Dendrobium fimbriatum Hook., On the basis of spectral analyses, six compounds of them were identified as chrysophanol(3), n-dotriacodtanoic acid(5), defuscin(6), n-triacontyl cis-p-coumarate(7), β-sitosterol(8) and chrysotobibenzyl(9). CONCLUSION Chrysophanol(3) was firstly isolated from Genus dendrobium and chrysotobibenzyl(9) was found from this species for the first time.

OBJECTIVETo identify Radix Scutellariae (Huangqin) of different growth years, to distinguish whether it's wild or cultivated and to provide useful information for the quality control of Huangqin crude drug.
METHODBy using morphological and histological methods, we studied 87 individuals of 45 specimens from 12 habitats of 5 provinces of China, which grew wild or were cultivated in different growing years. Moreover, 22 commercial samples of Huangqin from 7 provinces were also investigated.
RESULTThe identification was performed base on morphological and histological characteristics, such as, the shape, color, cork, remaining stems, decayed central xylem, and vessels arrangement, xylem cork ring, growth rings, etc.
CONCLUSIONWe established an identification method for distinguishing Huangqin wild or cultivated in different growing years. Furthermore, the structure of annual rings in the transection of Radix Scutellariae has been discovered for the first time.
