We report two infants with neonatal cholestasis and hepatosplenomegaly secondary to congenital syphilis. The onset of jaundice of the first infant was at six weeks of life and the second case on the 28th hour of life with associated neurologic and bone involvement. The diagnosis was suspected based on a maternal history of untreated syphilis, clinical findings, and a reactive rapid plasma reagin. Early recognition and treatment can lead to clinical improvement but prevention by mandatory testing and treatment of maternal syphilis is a more effective strategy

5.Acquired Secondary Syphilis in Early Childhood.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 2011;49(2):159-163
A gradual increase of symptomatic syphilis in youngsters has been reported in the last few years. Although most cases of syphilis in childhood result from congenital syphilis, acquired syphilis in children may occur. Transmission of syphilis to children is usually related to sexual abuse. However, children may acquire syphilis by non-venereal contact. Acquired syphilis in a child has rarely been described in the current medical literature. Herein, we present a case of acquired secondary syphilis occurring in a 10-year-old girl in which non-sexual transmission is likely.

7.3 Cases of Interstitial Keratitis Occurred in Congenital Syphilitic Patients.
Kwang Sung YOO ; Yong Hwan KIM
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1981;22(2):427-431
Since the time of Jonathan Hutchinson (1858-63), it has been known that over 90% of cases of diffuse interstitial keratitis occur in syphilitic patients. The syphilitic patients was sharply decreased throughout the world after the introduction of penicillin for syphilis therapy, but recently the incidence of syphilis began to increase throughout the world. The authors experienced 3 cases of interstitial keratitis due to congenital syphilis. All the cases showed interstitial keratitis, positive serologic test for syphilis (VDRL) and Hutchinson's teeth. A brief review and relating literatures are presented.

8.5 Cases of Interstitial Keratitis Due to Congenital Syphilis.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1979;20(4):585-589
Syphilitic interstitial keratitis is known as a rare disease in recent time. Authors experienced 5 cases of interstitial keratitis due to congenital syphilis.
