This paper introduces a new search strategy on the basis of self-adaption step, aiming at solving the problem that primary double iron rotating electro-magnetic tracking method can not make a good balance of accuracy and efficiency. Through the emulation, we can conclude that this new strategy can sharply increase the efficiency, with the accuracy identical to that of the fixed-step (0.5 degrees).

Minimal invasive surgery with short operation time and enhanced recovery after surgery can truly achieve biological minimal invasiveness. The minimal invasive lung cancer surgery includes several kinds, such as uni-portal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and multi-portal VATS. Robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) can be categorized into multi-portal VATS. As a frontier technology of minimal invasive surgical technique, surgical robotic system has been broadly applied in many areas. The average RATS operation time is (91.51±30.80) min among our team, which is much shorter than reported uni-portal VATS operation time. For now, RATS has some drawbacks and is lacking of national practice guidelines, which, we believe, will be solved by technology development and large-scale randomized controlled trials.

Robots are being more and more used in surgery. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound is newly used in tumor treatment and it is non invasive. In this paper, we introduced a Robot integrated HIFU surgery system and its general flow. Also introduced is an 8 DOF surgical platform, its design, its mechanism and its kinematic analysis. In the end, we give out two spatial working areas individually. Each is the combination of 5 dimensional motions. Compared with other platforms available, this surgery platform is more flexible and accurate and its treatment area is larger. All these advantages make the treatment design easier.

The therapeutic options for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can be divided into medicinal, surgical and minimally invasive treatments. The minimally invasive treatment of BPH is gradually accepted by more and more urologists for its advantages of less damage, good effect, quick recovery and easy acceptance by patients, which includes transurethral needle ablation of the prostate (TUNA), transurethral microwave therapy (TUMT), photoselective laser vaporization of the prostate (PVP), holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP) and so on. This article updates the advances in the minimally invasive treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To review the management of NUSS procedure by video-assisted thoracoscopy for the correction of pectus excavatum in 18 patients, and to prevent and treat some complications. METHODS: Eighteen patients with severe pectus excavatum underwent NUSS procedure by video-assisted thoracoscopy from December 2006 to September 2007. RESULTS: The operation time ranged from 30 to 70 min ( average 45 min). Good Results were achieved for all patients after the operation. All of them recovered and were discharged 5 approximately 7 days after the operation. Minor complications occurred in 2 patients. CONCLUSION NUSS procedure is microinvasive and has beautiful outlook with shorter operation time and simple handling.The minimally invasive technique has a low complication rate with satisfactory short-term result. Proper management is important for the recovery at the early postoperative stage.

The genetic optimal algorithm and sound field calculation approach for the spherical-section phased array are presented in this paper. The in-house manufactured 256-element phased array focused ultrasound surgery system is briefly described. The on-axis single focus and off-axis single focus are simulated along with the axis-symmetric six-focus patter and the axis-asymmetric four-focus pattern using a 256-element phased array and the genetic optimal algorithm and sound field calculation approach. The experimental results of the described 256-element phased array focused ultrasound surgery system acting on organic glass and phantom are also analyzed. The results of the simulations and experiments confirm the applicability of the genetic algorithm and field calculation approaches in accurately steering three dimensional foci and focus.

The aim of this study was to assess whether a 2 mm mini-videothoracoscope could be used as a conventional videothoracoscope in the management of pneumothorax. Thirty patients of ages from 15 to 35 years with recurrent or persistent pneumothorax were involved in this study. The subjects consisted of 27 males and three females. The indications for videothoracoscopic surgery were ipsilateral recurrent pneumothorax in 12 (40%), persistent air leakage in 15 (50%), visible bullae in 2 (6%), and 1 bilateral pneumothorax (3%). The mean operation time was 42.9+/-12.9 min. The average number of uses for Endo-GIA was 1.9+/-1.3 times and chest tube indwelling time was 3.8+/-2.7 days. The average amount of keptoprofen (100 mg/2 mL/ampule) used on the first postoperative day was 1.2+/-1.1 ampules. No parenteral opioids were given to the patients for pain control after the procedures. After a follow up of 8 to 20 months, there was only one recurrence among the patients. In conclusion, a 2 mm videothoracoscope, in selective cases, can be successfully used as conventional videothoracoscope to manage persistent or recurrent pneumothorax with cosmetically excellent results.
