Objective To study the association of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) with dyslipidemia and the risk of dyslipidemia at different BMI and WC level among adults in Suzhou Industrial Park District. Methods A total of 6219 participants were chosen by stratified random cluster sampling method. Four streets were selected form the district first, then one community as a cluster was selected randomly from each street. Questionnaire survey, physical examination and laboratory tests were done by all subjects. Results The prevalence of dyslipidemia was 35.9%;the rates of overweight, obesity and central obesity were 36.6%, 9.6% and 49.5% respectively. The prevalence of dyslipidemia in underweight group, normal weight group, overweight group and obesity group were 13.6%, 30.2%, 47.7%and 59.0% for male, and 17.2%, 27.3%, 38.6%和 48.8% for female respectively. The prevalence of dyslipidemia for male and female both rose with BMI (χ2=139.848, P<0.001; χ2=92.387, P<0.001). The prevalence of dyslipidemia in the high waist circumference group and normal group were 50.2%and 30.9%for male, and 40.8%and 23.8%for female respectively. Prevalence of groups with high waist circumference for male and female were significantly higher than normal groups (χ2=108.669, P<0.001; χ2=110.642, P<0.001). Pearson correlation analysis showed that total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride(TG), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were positively correlated with BMI ( r=0.153, P<0.001;r=0.227, P<0.001;r=0.192, P<0.001), and were also positively correlated with WC(r=0.138, P<0.001; r=0.234, P<0.001; r=0.159, P<0.001). High density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) was negatively correlated with BMI (r=-0.189, P<0.001) and WC (r=-0.185, P<0.001). Logistic regression analysis after age adjustment showed that, compared to the group with BMI<24 kg/m2 and WC<85 cm(male)/WC<85 cm (female), odds ratios (OR) for male in group with BMI<24 kg/m2 and WC≥85 cm, group with BMI≥24 kg/m2 and WC<85 cm and group with BMI≥24.0 kg/m2and WC≥85 cm were 1.602, 1.834 and 3.064 respectively, and ORs for female in group with BMI<24.0 kg/m2 and WC≥80 cm and group with BMI≥24.0 kg/m2 and WC≥80 cm were 1.703 and 2.381 respectively, however, the OR for female in group with BMI≥24.0 kg/m2 and WC<85 cm was not statistically significant (P>0.05). Conclusions BMI, waist circumference and dyslipidemia were closely correlated. Waist circumference is more important than BMI for female.

Objective To determine whether the cross-sectional area (CSA)of the calf measured with MRI could stage lower ex-tremity lymphedema (LEL)secondary to gynecological cancer treatments. Methods 148 patients were enrolled in this research.116 females with unilateral LEL and 32 without LEL after gynecological cancer treatments underwent calf MRI and water displacement. Total soft tissue CSA (T),muscle CSA (M)and subcutaneous tissue CSA (S)of affected calf, and difference of T (DT),M (DM) and S (DS)between calves were obtained on MRI at mid-calf level.Volume of affected calf and difference of volume (DV)between calves were obtained by water displacement.Statistical analysis was performed to determine feasibility of MRI measurements for ac-cessing LEL.Results There were close correlations between volume and T or S of affected calf, and between DV and DT or DS of calves. The correlations of stages of LEL with T and S of affected calf as well as DT and DS were stronger than the volume of affect-ed calf and DV (P< 0.01).Multivariate analysis showed more significant differences in T and S than in volume of affected calf, and in DS than in DV between LEL stages (P< 0.05).No difference was found in volume of affected calf and in DV between stage 0 andⅠ. For staging LEL,DS showed the most profound discrimination ability among all measurable parameters. Conclusion DS of calves could be the most reliable parameter recommended for staging and early diagnosis of LEL.

Objective To explore the effects of the three-step sputum elimination on preventing pulmonary complications in patients with burns complicated with severe inhalation injury. Methods Totally 81 patients with burns complicated with severe inhalation injury who received artificial airway between April 2015 and April 2016 were selected as a control group who received conventional nursing, while another 72 patients with burns complicated with severe inhalation injury who received artificial airway from May 2016 to April 2017 were selected as an observation group who received pulmonary nursing with the three-step sputum elimination, namely, 1) sufficient and effective airway humidification, 2) standardized beating procedure, and 3) effective catherization. The number of days with indwelling cannula and the incidence of pulmonary infection between the patients in the two groups were then observed. Results Totally 13 patients in the observation group (18.06%) and 49 patients in the control group (60.49%) showed pulmonary infection (χ2=7.826, P<0.01). The number of days with indwelling cannula of the patients in the observation group, (14.02±1.21) d, was shorter than that of the patients in the control group, [(19.04±1.63) d, (t=3.563, P<0.05)]. Conclusions The key to treatment of patients with burns complicated with severe inhalation injury lies in effective measures taken to eliminate airway obstruction and ensure airway patency in patients. Enhanced management of artificial airway, correct and effective sputum elimination and early wound treatment can improve clinical efficacy and reduce the incidence of pulmonary infection.

AIM: To explore the protective effect and mechanism of dexmedetomidine on intestinal mucosal barrier injury in septic rats. METHODS: Forty eight SD rats were randomly divided into four groups (n=12): sham operation group (sham group), sepsis group (sepsis group), sepsis + dexmedetomidine group (DEX group), and sepsis + DEX + HIF-1ɑ inhibitor Bay87-2243 (Bay87-2243 group). Sepsis model was established by cecal ligation and perforation (CLP). The rats in both DEX and Bay87-2243 groups were given 30 μg/kg of DEX intraperitoneally 30 minutes before CLP and 2 hours after CLP; while the rats in Bay87-2243 group received oral gavage of Bay87-2243 (9 mg/kg) for 3 days before CLP. The other groups were intraperitoneally injected and orally with the same amount of normal saline. The HIF-1ɑ and the tight junction protein (tight junction protein, TJs) was detected by western blot; the plasma concentrations of diamine oxidase (DAO), intestinal fatty acid binding protein (FABP2) and D-lactic acid (D-LAC) were detected by ELISA; the morphological changes of intestinal mucosa were detected by HE staining. RESULTS: DEX significantly increased the expression level of HIF-1ɑ (P<0.05) on intestinal mucosa in rats with sepsis injury (P<0.05), thus ameliorated intestinal mucosal pathological injury, reduced Chiu's score (P<0.05), decreased intestinal mucosal permeability (P<0.05), and up-regulated TJs protein expression (P<0.05). Moreover, effect on sepsis induced intestinal mucosal injury of DEX was reversed by HIF-1ɑ Bay87-2243. CONCLUSION: DEX could protect against sepsis-induced intestinal mucosal injury by up-regulating HIF-1ɑ expression in rats.
