1.The Importance of Parental Attitudes and Behavior upon Adolescent Smoking Behavior.
Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 1998;10(2):302-310
The purpose of this study was to find out the relationships between parental attitudes about smoking and parental smoking behavior as factors associated with adolescent's smoking behavior. Data were collected from Nov 20, 1997 to Feb 30, 1998 from 295 male high school students located in the Kyung Gi Do Province. Specific questions for adolescents concerning their parent's attitudes about their smoking, parental smoking behavior and the youth smoking behavior were included. Data were analyzed using a SPSS/PC program for the descriptive and chi-square statistics. Results indicated that parental attitudes are significantly associated with adolescents' smoking, both in behavior and amount smoked. Whereas parental behavior showed difference in means of adolescent's smoking behavior and smoking amount. In conclusion, parental attitudes toward adolescent smoking have a significantly greater effect on both the behavior and on the amount smoked than does parental antismoking educational efforts may find it helpful to include this factor.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(1):33-38
Displaced acetabular fractures have given rise to difficulty to the management, It has been unique diagnostic and operative challanges for the surgeon. We made a retrospective study of hip arthroplasty in fourteen patients who had a history of previous acetabular fracture. The most of patients was sutfered from traumatic osteoarthritis, We performed two bipolar hemiarthroplasty, eleven non-cement cup and one case Charnley cup replacement were done. The purpose of this stady was to determine the outcome long-term cup. The clinical results showed that pain was most improved at foliow-up, but the incidence of radiographic loosening and revisions were higher 42.8% within 10 years. We conclude that a history of prior acetahular fracture has a significant adverse impact on the long term out come of acetabular cup in total hip arthroplasty.

To analyze the correlation between biological phenotypes of HIV-1 isolates and disease progression, we selected 9 long-term non-progressors (LTNP) and 12 rapid progressors (RP) from HIV-1 infected Korean. We isolated HIV-1 isolates by culture of PBMC of LTNP and RP with normal PBMC and measured HIV-1 p24 antigen production. The HIV-1 isolation rate from LTNP was 55.6% (5/9). And 4 HIV-1 LTNP isolates were non-syncytium inducing (NSI) phenotype and showed slow/low replication. The HIV-1 isolation rate from RP was 91.7% (l1/12) which was higher than that from LTNP. Besides 3 RP HIV-1 isolates which showed syncytium inducing (SI) phenotype, 8 RP HIV-1 isolates showed NSI phenotype in normal PBMC and MT-2 cell line. All RP HIV-1 isolates replicated more rapidly than LTNP HIV-1 isolates. Comparing the replication kinetics and syncytium forming capacity of HIV-1 isolates from LTNP and RP, we suggest that the difference of biological phenotype of HIV-1 isolates could be related with disease progression of HIV-1 infected persons.

Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2006;18(2):202-212
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of a school based smoking prevention program for college freshmen. METHOD: The nonequivalent control group, pretest-post-test design was used. Among 16 departments in a University located in S city, students in 8, randomly selected, departments received 6 sessions of smoking prevention program consisted of small group discussion led by smoking cessation leaders, video watching, and lectures from March 15 to June 9, 2004. Students in remaining 8 departments did not receive any education. Student's attitude, intention, stress, temptation, knowledge and self efficacy was measured. RESULT: The level of stress and smoking temptation was significantly decreased in the experimental group over that of the control group. CONCLUSION: It was proven that this school based smoking prevention program was effective for decreasing smoking temptation in college freshmen. In the future, more efforts should be given to college age students to prevent them becoming chronic smokers.
