The benign teratoma is usually slow growing tumor, but we expirienced a case of primary huge mediastinal benign teratoma that had grown very rapidly, maximally during 3 years. The 14-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital because of abnormal chest X-ray that showed 10x10cm sized well definded mass with multiple calcificactions. but the mass was not present in chest X-ray perfomed on 3 years prior to admission. Under the diagnosis of teratoma, complete surgical resection was done by the left thoracotomy. The result of pathology was benign teratoma.

Journal of the Korean Neurological Association 1992;10(1):89-92
'Num-chin syndrome', isolated mental neuropathy, is a rare manifestaion of malignant hernatologic diseases, but important sign for early diagnosis and prediction of clinical course and prognosis. Here we report 7 cases of numb-chin syndrome; one in leukemic transformation of malignant lymphoma, one in blastic crisis of chronic myelogenous leukemia and 5 in acute leukemia Two cases of acute leukemia revealed the 'numb-chin sign' in early course of disease before the diagnosis of leukemia and other three in aggravating state of acute leukemia. The therapeutic response and prognosis was poor and 5 cases expired in a few months.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1980;21(3):275-277
Two cases of malignant melanoma which are located in the bulbar conjunctiva are presented. A case of 56 years old male revealed melanosis in his medial palpebral conjunctiva and wedge shaped resection was performed. The other case of 76 years old male had dark brownish strawberry like pedunclated mass in his lateral bulbar conjunctiva and limbal area with history of progressive enlargement. This tumor mass was excised radically. Above two cases were confirmed as malignant melanoma histopathologically.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2000;38(2):170-175
BACKGROUND: Angioleiomyoma of the skin is a rare smooth muscle tumor and may develop anywhere in the body. Comprehensive clinicopathological analysis of angioleiomyomas developed in Korean has not been reported in domestic dermatological journals. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and pathological characteristics of angioleiomyoma and the relationship between the tumor and the nerve with immunohistochemical stains. METHODS: Fifty nine cases of angioleiomyoma were reappraised from the files of the pathology of Seoul National University, Green Cross Reference Laboratory Center and Korea Veterans Hospital. Brief clinical histories of all cases were examined and microscopic findings in 35 cases were classified according to subtypes. Paraffin blocks were recut and stained in 16 cases for desmin, smooth muscle actin and S-100 protein. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: 1. Male to female ratio was 1:1.27. 2. The age of the patients was mostly over 20 years and the mean age was 51 years in men and 40 years in women. 3. Tumors occurred most frequently in the lower extremity(38 cases), and followed by upper extremity(18 cases), head(2 cases), and trunk(1 case). Women had predominance of the legs in location site and men showed equal distribution in the lower and upper extremities.

The symptoms and signs of acute pulmonary arteries thrombosis are nonspecific. So clinical suspicion is the most important in the diagnosis. Treatment of pulmonary thromboembolism include anticoagulant, thrombolytic agent, or surgical intervention. We experienced a case of recurrent pulmonary thromboembolism without coagulation defect and any risk factor except old age and obese. Initially we treated with heparin, but clinical symptoms were aggravated. After we changed to urokinase (total 330 million IU/2 days), the pulmonary arteries obstruction were resolved and clinical symptoms were improved without any complications. So we report this clinical experience with review of articles.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 1981;24(8):735-742
A clinical and laboratory study was conducted on 75 children with dysentery-like stool, who had been admitted or visited to our pediatric department, during 8 months period from January to August 1980. The following results were obtained: One to five years of age group was affected most frequently(47%), Shigella flexneri was identified by stool culture in 23 cases(30%) and Entameba histolytica in 13 cases(17%). In bacillary dysentery group, fever was the most common symptom occuring in 83%, followed by abdominal pain in 35%. vomiting in 26% and convulsion in 22%. In amoebic dysentery group, fever was noted in 31% and convulsion in 8%, showing some contrast to the frequency of fever & CNS manifestation. About the character of diarrheal stool, 83% of bacillary dysentery group showed bloody, mucoid stool and 62% of amoebic dysentery group mucoid ones. Frequency of diarrhea was 11 times per day or more in 73% of bacillary dysentery patients, and 10 times per day or lese in 92% of amoebic dysentery patients. The result of sensitivity test of isolated Shigella to various antibiotics were as follow : 100% sensitive to kanamycin, gentamicin, amikacin, cephaloridine & rifampin, 87% to nalidixic acid, an4 4.3% to sulfonamide, chloramphcnicol, streptomycin, tetracyclin, ampicillin & bactrim. And 22 out of 23 isolated Shigella strains revealed multiple- drug-resistance pattern on 6 or more antibiotics.

Korean Journal of Urology 1989;30(4):612-616
Incidence of testicular tumor is 1-2% in all male tumor. Various series report that 3.6-11.6% of testicular tumor arise in patient with cryptorchidism or a history of cryptorchidism. But testicular tumors developed in suprapubic ectopic testis were reported rarely. Seminoma is one of the most radiosensitive tumor. However, the survival of patients with advanced tumor is poor. Therefore adjuvant systemic chemotherapy is essential for proper treatment of these patients. Recently we experienced a case of advanced seminoma resulted from suprapubic ectopic testis and treated by orchiectomy, systemic chemotherapy and radiation with good result.

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma is a rate low-grade malignant salivary neoplasm that usually occurs in the parotid gland but can also arise in minor salivary glands. We report a case of a primary epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the lung neoplasm. The patient was 48-year-old women who presented with dry cough of 1 month duration. A right middle lobe endobronchial lesion was identified bronchoscopically. The bilobectomy of RML & RLL was performed, the pathologic result was epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2008;46(5):627-632
BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis of melasma has not yet been clearly demonstrated. But, clinical manifestations such as remarkable lesional symmetry and the distribution related to trigeminal nerves, suggest that the neural system could play a pathogenic role in melasma. OBJECTIVE: This study was carried out to examine the expression of some neuropeptides and their receptors, which are well known to be major contributors of neuroinflammation in many dermatoses, in melasma lesions. METHODS: Skin biopsies were obtained from the lesional and non-lesional facial skin of 6 Korean women with melasma. Immunofluorecence staining and confocal laser scanning microscopy were performed. RESULTS: In our results, no difference could be detected with regard to the intensity of immunoreactivity for vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor (CGRPR), substance P (SP), substance P receptor (SPR), somatostatin (SOM), pituitary adenylate cyclase activating peptide (PACAP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating peptide receptor (PACAPR) in the lesional skins compared with the non-lesional skins. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that neuroinflammation induced by neuropeptides such as substance P, calcitonin gene-related peptide, vasoactive intestinal peptide, and somatostatin and their receptors included in this study, are not directly associated with melasma pathogenesis.
