Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1990;23(6):879-883
The authors examined the induntivity of sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) in peripheral lum-phocytes on the personnel working in the operating room and analyzed the factors associated with it to obtain data for their monitoring health status. The results obtained were as follows; 1) Average inductivity of SCE in peripheral lymphocytes of operating room perssonnel exposed to anesthetic gases was 7.85 per cell; it was significantly higher than in those who were not exposed (p< 0.05). 2) The inductivity of SCE in peripheral lymphocytes by age group and exposure duration was not statically significant (p<0.05). 3) The inductivity of SCE in the subjects with a smoking habit was significantly higher than those without a smoking habit (p<0.05). 4) There was no significant difference in the inductivity of SCE between the subjects with a drinking habit and those without it (p>0.05). 5) It is possible that the high inductivity of SCE in operating room personnel who both with drink and smoke was due to more the influence of their smoking than their drinking.

Korean Journal of Urology 1993;34(4):737-739
Priapism is a well recognized complication of some oral medications. Those most commonly cited are: antipsychotic drugs, especially the phenolhiazine: trazodone and chlorpromazine :and the antihyperlensive drugs hydralazine, guanethidine and prazocin. We report a case or priapism associated with the use of chlorpromazine who experienced 2 episodes or priapism and never experience priapism after cessation of the drug.

6.Transurethral Resection and Open Surgery in Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia : Comparative Study.
Korean Journal of Urology 1988;29(2):293-298
The results of TUR and open surgery in benign prostatic hyperplasia were compared in 72 cases of TUR and 48 cases of open surgery from July 1980 to June 1987. The results were as follows; 1. Mean operation time was shorter in TUR than open surgery(106.9min. in open surgery, 87.4min. in TUR). 2. Mean weight of resected prostate was heavier in open surgery than TUR(57.5gm in open surgery, 18.1gm in TUR). 3. Mean blood loss during operation was widely different between two groups(547.2ml in open surgery, 281.6ml in TUR), and no blood was required in 19.4% of TUR. 4. Mean hospitalization and catheter indwelling periods were shorter in TUR than open surgery(mean hospitalization ; 13 days in open surgery and 8.6 days in TUR). 5. Total complication rate was 25.1% in open surgery and 20.8% in TUR, the most predominant complication was rebleeding in open surgery and urinary incontinence in TUR.

Korean Journal of Urology 1995;36(2):163-168
We designed this study to investigate the effects of adenosine on penile erection in Sprague- Dawley rats, in vivo. This was performed by simultaneous monitoring intracavernosal pressure( ICP) and systemic blood pressure with UROCOMPACT 6000 plus( WIEST, Germany) after intracavernosal injection of adenosine, papaverine and adenosine plus papaverine. Increment of maximal ICP was observed in the adenosine treated-group (0.015 to 0.15mg, n=30) in dose dependent manner, i.e., 15.8+/-0.95cmH2O with 0.015mg adenosine to 44.6+/-2.72cmH2O with 0.15mg adenosine, in mean ICP(n=l0, P<0.05). A similar finding was observed in the papaverine treated-group (0.015 to 0.15mg, n =30) in dose dependent manner. i.e., 28.1+/-2.88cmH2O with 0.015mg papaverine to 62.3+/-4.93cmH2O with 0.15mg papaverine, in mean ICP (n=10, P<0.05). The additive effect of adenosine plus papaverine treated-group( 0.015 + 0.015 to 0.15 +0.l5mg, n=30) was to enhance the results obtained by adenosine or papaverine alone in dose dependent manner. i.e., 50.7+/-1.71cmH2O with 0.015mg + 0.015mg papaverine to 79.5+/-5.63cmH2O with 0.15mg adenosine + 0.15mg papaverine. in mean ICP(n= 10, P<0.05). These results suggest that adenosine plays an important role on penile erection in rats. Adenosine may be useful for the future management of impotence, although the clinical effect remains to be investigated.

Korean Journal of Urology 1991;32(3):494-495
Urethral polyp is an unusual cause of bladder outlet obstruction in male patients. Diagnosis is made by cystourethrography and is confirmed by transurethral biopsy. We report on an infant with a congenital polyp of the prostatic urethra with brief review of literature.
