Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1989;30(5):835-838
The authors experienced one case of Gronblad-Strandberg syndrome with subretinal neovascularization which showed characteristic signs of pseudoxanthoma elasticum(PXE) and angioid streak. PXE is an uncommon hereditary disorder which involves the elastic tissue of the dermis and may also involve the eye and the cardiovascular system. Angioid streaks are red or dark-brown jagged irregular lines extending in spoke like fashion toward periphery from an area of peripapillary atrophy. We report a case of Gronblad-Strandberg syndrome with subretinal neovasculari zation in a 49 year old korean female.

To evaluate the availability of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate as an adhesive in limbal wound repair, we used 15 rabbits(30 eyes). A limbal incision exactly 9mm long was made and the wound of one eye was tightly closed with seven equally apaced corneoscleral sutures of 10-0 nylon(nylon group), The wound of the other eye was closed by two(6.5mm spaced, 11 and 1 o'clock) corneoscleral sutures of 8-0 vicryl and the outer surface of this limbal wound was thinly coated with a small amount of Histoacryl(Histo-acryl group). The average disrupting pressure in nylon group was 0.87 +/- 0.11 kg/cm2 and that in Histoacryl group was 0.79 +/- 0.17 kg/cm2. The average refractive change in nylon group was 2.5 diopter with-the-rule astigmatism, and that in Histoacryl group was 0.9 diopter against-the-rule astigmatism. A moderate inflammatory reaction was noted at the histopathologic findings of the wounds closed with Histoacryl 14 days after operation. From the results, post-operative inflammatory changes indicated that the Histoacryl seemed to be rather unsuitable for clinical application.

6.Comparative Analysis of Subjective Satisfaction Between Hearing Aid Users With Insurance Payment and General Payment
Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 2023;66(1):15-19
Background and Objectives:
This study aimed to compare subjective satisfaction and functional hearing gain between users of hearing aids with insurance payment (HA with IP) and hearing aids with general payment (HA with GP).Subjects and Method The functional hearing gain and subjective satisfaction of 42 HA with IP and 38 HA with GP were compared after the final fitting, retrospectively. Sound field pure tone and speech audiometry were performed after 4 sessions of hearing aids fitting. Subjective satisfaction was evaluated using the Korean version of abbreviated profile of hearing aid benefit (APHAB) and the international outcome inventory for hearing aids (IOI-HA).
Results:
Sound field pure tone thresholds and speech discrimination scores were improved after the final fitting of hearing aids in both HA with IP and HA with GP groups. HA with IP group showed significantly better results in aversiveness of APHAB and the IOI-HA scores than HA with GP group did.
Conclusion
These results suggest that hearing aids with insurance payment provide considerable benefits and satisfaction, and can be a good alternative for hearing rehabilitation in hearing-impaired patients.

Nasal fractures are the most common type of facial fractures. Nowdays computed tomography is found to be very helpful in diagnosing nasal fracture, especially in findings the nasal septal fractures. From August 2004 to July 2005, 36 cases of nasal fracture were admited and reviewed to oral and maxillofacial surgery of Ulsan University Hospital, not including other facial bone fracture. Out of 223 cases of facial bone fractures, we treated 47 cases of nasal fractures. We reviewed and examined the 36 patients of nasal fractures 2months postoperative. The results were 28cases of male and 8cases of female. The highest age frequency was in the fourth decades group. The most frequent causes of injury were falling down and fist trauma. The 25(69%) patients were found to have septal fractures, after computed tomography findings. The treatment methods of nasal fracture were closed reduction(13cases), open reduction(20cases), ORIF(1case), non operation(2cases). Complications of nasal deformity were found in 2patients. Septoplasty was performed on 21 patients. Septal fractures in combination with nasal fracture are usually unrecognized and untreated at the time of injury, usually ended in nasal deformities. It is important to find out the exact type of nasal fractures. We will report the results of treatment of nasal fractures with a literature review.

Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1989;18(3):400-408
The prediction of possibility which patient will develop vasospasm constitutes a further advance in the management of this complication. So the possible clinical risk factors predicting ischemic complication of subarachnoid hemorrhage were retrospectively investigated in patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysm. A comparative analysis of risk factors contributing to symptomatic vasospasm was carried out between 40 patients with symptomatic vasospasm as DID(Delayed Ischemic Neurologic Deficit) group and 52 patients without symptomatic vasospasm as Non-DID group, those who were selected among 349 cases of ruptured intracranial aneurysm admitted to department of neurosurgery at Presbyterian Medical Center, Jeon Ju for 6 years from August, 1982 to July, 1988. Peripheral WBC count, clinical grade, hematocrit, blood glucose level, EKG findings, age, sex and aneurysm location of admission failed to show a prognostic value as a factor developing delayed ischemic neurologic deficit in the patients. However a statistically significant rise in peripheral WBC count was observed at the beginning of clinical deterioration and also systolic blood pressure at admission were significantly higher in DID than Non-DID group. The results suggest that the increase of peripheral WBC count observed at the time of neurological deterioration of delayed onset and high systolic blood pressure at admission might be a risk factor for developing vasospasm.
