Placental site nodules and plaques have been recently described to designated single or multiple, well-circumscribed, rounded lesions at the placental site, composed of viable or degenerating intermediate trophoblastic cells and extensive hyalinization between the cells. We described clinicopathologic findings of 14 cases of placental site nodules and plaques. The age of 14 patients ranged from 25 to 39(average 33) years and all of them had been pregnant in the past. Ten of them presented with vaginal spotting, which was preceded by recent pregnancy in only 3 cases. Three patients presented with secondary infertility and one with secondary infertility and vaginal spotting. Urine pregnancy tests were negative in all 14 cases at the time of presentation. Ultrasonographic examination disclosed abnormalities in only 3 cases and the remaining cases were normal. Hysterosalpingography was performed in 3 patients who presented with 2 degrees infertility and revealed moderate to severe intrauterine adhesions. Microscopically, chronic endometritis of varying degrees evidenced by plasma cells and eosinophiles were present in all cases and these were more prominent in the vicinity of the lesions. It is presumed that the placental site nodules and plaques are not sloughed at the time of menstruation and it may cause chronic endometritis or intrauterine adhesions at any time after previous delivery.

4.Awareness of Body Shape, Weight Control, and Eating Disorders in Female Adolescents Living in Seoul.
Journal of the Korean Dietetic Association 2009;15(3):232-252
This study investigated dieting behavior, awareness of body shapes, and eating disorders in female adolescents according to age and BMI. The Eating Attitude Test for Korean Adolescents (EAT-26KA) and sociocultural standards were used to measure eating disorders and sociocultural attitudes related to appearance, respectively. In addition, the BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) scale was used to measure the correlation between disordered eating and depression. The data were collected from 390 female adolescents living in Seoul and were analyzed using SPSS15.0. The results indicated that subjects wanted to be thinner despite having a normal body weight (BMI 19.35+/-2.73). They also thought of themselves as fat and with desires to be slimmer, and viewed "diet and exercise" as the best way to lose weight. About 67.4% of the respondents had tried a diet and had experienced dizziness, anorexia, and general exhaustion while dieting. Also, 5.1% of the subjects were classified as eating disorder and suffered from stress to be thin. In addition, 85.0% of the subjects with eating disorder had tried a diet due to "appearance". They thought that "being underweight" was an ideal body image and considered themselves fat, although their BMIs were in the normal range (19.94+/-2.02). In terms of symptoms during dieting, many of the subjects dealing with an eating disorder felt dizzy, had low energy, and were depressed. In conclusion, we must educate young females about healthy eating and positive body image to prevent the development of adolescent eating disorders.

Compared with osteosarcoma of bone, primary osteosarcoma of the soft tissue is very rare. Extraskeletal osteosarcoma is also a highly malignant pleomorphic sarcoma composed of cells exhibiting primarily osteoblastic, and to a lesser extent, chondroblastic differentiation. A case of extraskeletal osteosarcoma in the right sole is presented in a 67 year old male. The patient had noticed a progressively enlarging soft tissue mass, during about 14 months. This sarcoma was located in the soft tissues without attachment to the skeleton, as determined by examination of the X-Ray findings. The mass of right plantar portion was simply excised and pathologically confirmed to be an extraskeletal osteosarcoma. The clinical and pathological features of this sarcoma are described, and brief review of the literature is made.

A psoriatic patient may have rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis(or both), osteoarthritis or gout. In so far as possible, each of these must be distinguished on clinical grounds with some help from laboratory tests. Psoriatic arthritis is very similar to rheumatoid arthritis but clinically, it is regarded as a unique disease entity, which is found in 1% to 32% of psoriatic individuals. We herein report two cases of psoriatic arthritis that are thought to be distal type and arthritis mutilans on the basis of clinical, serological and radiological features.

8.Elementary School Students' Knowledge, Behavior and Request for Education Method Associated with Food Safety.
Journal of the Korean Dietetic Association 2007;13(2):169-182
We investigated elementary school students' knowledge, behavior, experience and preference of education method related to food safety in order to provide basic information for food safety educational program. A survey study was conducted with 569, fourth and sixth grade students, from two schools in Seoul and Ulsan. Students were asked thirty-two questions regarding food safety knowledge, behavior and experiences as well as their attitude to food safety class and preference for teaching method. The data was analyzed for the frequency analysis, t-test, chi-square test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation using the SPSS/Windows. Results indicated that 91.9 percent of the respondents did not know what unsanitary food is. 67 percent of the respondents did not know the proper method of hand washing. Although the students' level of knowledge and behavior associated with food safety was low, there was meaningful correlation(r =.184, p<.01) between knowledge and behavior. Surprisingly, students in higher grade did not demonstrate an exceeding food safety knowledge and behavior. More than 50 percent of the subjects did not have food safety education either at home or school. 60 percent of the respondents interested in food safety and the majority recognized that a food safety education is needed. Students want to learn about unsanitary food(34.1%), foodborne illness(29.7%), food selection and storage method(21.3%), and personal hygiene(11.2%) through game, role play, and practice in real situation. These results suggest that development of food safety education program is needed through the elementary school year and the education program must include fun activities in which students can participate.

9.The effects of pregnancy on alveolar bone turnover during experimental tooth movement in rats.
Korean Journal of Orthodontics 2000;30(4):413-421
The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of pregnancy on the experimental tooth movement and alveolar bone turnover process of Sprague-Dawley female rat. Sixty rats were divided into pregnant-tooth movement group(P-Tm), normal-tooth movement group(N-Tm) and normal group(N). Maxillary first molar appliances were inserted bilaterally and activated to 40grams. To measure the amount of tooth movement, x-ray was taken 2 times after appliance insertion and before sacrifice. Animals were sacrificed at 1,3,7,14 days(N=5). Just after sacrifice, alveolar bones were collected and frozen immediately for biochemical analysis. Tooth movement was assessed cepha~,ometrically and tartrate-resistant acid(TRAP) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities were measured in extracts of paradental alveolar bone. The results were as follows: 1. The amount of tooth movement in P-Tm group was greater than that of N-Tm group(p<0.01). 2. Alveolar bone ALP of normal tooth movement group was not significantly different from the control, TRAP was significantly different from the control(p<0.01). In normal tooth movement group, alveolar bone ALP was increased gradually and peak(day 7) fell off significantly at day 14(p<0.05). The peak of alveolar bone TRAP(day 7) fell off slightly, sustained day 14(p<0.01). 3. Alveolar bone ALP and TRAP of pregnant tooth movement group were not significantly different from that of normal tooth movement group. In pregnant tooth movement group, alveolar bone ALP was increased at day 3(p<0.01) and fell off significantly at day 7-14, alveolar bone TRAP were increased at day 3 and sustained day 14. 4. The peak of alveolar bone phosphatases in pregnant tooth movement group(day3) preceded the peak in normal tooth movement group(day7)(p<0.01). According to the above results, we suggested that bone resorption activity was increased in alveolar bone of pregnant rat, and the degree of tooth movement in pregnancy may be greater than that of normal group because of high bone turnover of alveolar bone in pregnant rat.

10.An electron microscopic study on the alveolar bone remodelling in pressure zones of rat molar periodontium associated with orthodontic tooth movement.
Korean Journal of Orthodontics 1989;19(2):37-55
The tissue reactions concerned in alveolar bone remodelling at the pressure zones of rat molar periodontium associated with the application of force (15 gm) to the maxillary first molar teeth of the albino rats were studied by the transmission electron microscopy. Osteoclasts referrable to bone resorption were observed thereafter 3 hour survival period and undermining resorption was generated thenceforth 2 day survival period. Bone resorption, reversal zone and new bone formation were simultaneously observed adjacent to the zone of undermining resorption in the 7 day survival period. Osteoclasts with well developed primary lysosome, ruffled border, clear zone, granules and Golgi apparatus were detected at the zone of the bone resorption, and dark and bright cells adjacent to the osteoclasts as well. Mononuclear cells and perpendicularly arranged collagenous fibers were observed in the reversal zone and, on the other hand, osteoblasts with well developed Golgi apparatus and rough endoplasmic reticulum were detected at the zone of bone formation.
