The utilization of CT-guided fine needle aspiration biopsy of bone has been the subject of considerable interest, since the introduction of the CT scanning. The CT-guided needle biopsy of 11 consecutive patients with avariety of "Etiology Unknown Spinal Disorders" resulted in a 100% yield of positive tissue diagnosis without significant complicaitons. The main advantage of CT guidance is the continuous direct observation of the needletip position in relation to the target volume, the more precise sampling from smaller and deeper lesion is another advantage. We are confident that localization of pathology by CT is the most accurate method for perform ingbiopses, and thus replaces the conventional ways of approaches and this could be utilized on the other organbiopsy in the future.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of food behavior and life-style behavior on the health-status of male industrial workers in the Masan region. The average age of the 173 male subjects was 42.9 years and 59% of the subjects were labor workers, 25% office workers, and 70% of them earned 1 - 1.5 million won monthly. The subjects were categorized into one of three groups : normal group, health-concerned group, and disease-suspected group classified by the criteria of the data (blood pressure, blood glucose, blood hemoglobin, serum total cholesterol, and serum triglyceride) obtained from a health examination. Forty seven belonged to the normal group, 71 to the health-concerned group, and 55 to the disease-suspected group. The health-concerned group, and disease-suspected group had significantly higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure, blood glucose, and serum total cholesterol than the normal group, and the disease-suspected group showed a significantly higher serum triglyceride level than the normal and health-concerned groups. The disease-suspected group consumed carbohydrate foods, such as cereals more frequently and protein foods such as beans and eggs less frequently than the normal group and health-concerned group. However, there was no difference in nutrient intakes among the three groups. The disease-suspected group and health-concerned group smoked more cigarettes and drank more frequently than the normal group, and the disease-suspected group exercised less as compared to the normal group. The kinds of diseases diagnosed in the disease-suspected group were hypertension, hyperlipidemia, liver disease, and neurological disease. The results of this study indicate that nutrition education and monitoring should be implemented for industrial workers to prevent chronic diseases and to reduce medical cost for the treatment of disease.

Total anomalous pulmonary venous return(connection) is a congenital heart disease. Especially, the reports of the patients with double connections of all pulmonary veins were rare. An infant who underwent operation for total anomalous pulmonary venous return had double drainge of all pulmonary veins to both left vertical vein and anomalous descending vein. This second lesion was not diagnosed preoperatively, but in operative field. Operative treatments were performed by ligation of left vertical vein and central pulmonary vein-to-left atrium anastomosis without ligation of the descending anomalous vein. For these less common variants fo total anomalous pulmonary venous return,a more detailed and precise understanding of morphology can facilitate accurate surgical repair. And also, early detection of the disease is an another issue for a good prognosis.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of cancer pain was 64% in advanced or terminal cancer patients. In the world, about 25% of all cancer patients had been died without pain control despite of severe pain. We relieved cancer pain with the three methods of treatment such as continuous epidural morphine infusion, alcohol sympathetic block and continuous epidural morphine infusion with alcohol block in the patients requested from other departments. The change of pain was investigated retrospectively. METHODS: The alteration of cancer pain in 26 terminal cancer patients were recorded in visual analogue scale from June 1996 to May 1998 retrospectively. RESULTS: Patients lived average 38.5 days from beginning of pain control. All patients complained severe pain at the point of time requested to pain clinic. But 2 days after pain control, most patients were comfortable or tolerable to pain. At 1 week before death, pain were aggravated and sometimes uncontrolled. CONCLUSIONS: At first time, cancer pain was controlled but it becomes uncontrollable and aggravated in the patients time was drawing near.

PURPOSE: The Purposes of this study were to examine the effects of Koryo-Sooji-Chim (30minutes * 2times/week * 2weeks) on menstrual pain and menstrual symptoms of female university students with dysmenorrhea. METHOD: The subjects were 22 female students with dysmenorrhea, 12 experimental group, 10 control group, studying at K university in Chungnam province. The data were collected through questionnaires from September 1st to November 30th 2003 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, X2-test, Fisher's exact test and Mann-Whitney test. RESULT: 1. The menstrual pain scores were significantly different between the two groups(U=16.0, p=.001). 2. The menstrual symptom scores were significantly different between the two groups(U=28.5, p=.038). CONCLUSION: These findings showed that Koryo-Sooji-Chim was effective related to menstrual pain and menstrual symptoms of female university students with dysmenorrhea. Koryo-Sooji-Chim during dysmenorrhea could be applied as an effective nursing intervention.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of the use of external breast prostheses among breast cancer survivors in Korea. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted, using focus groups. Data were collected from breast cancer survivors who were patients of C women's hospital in Seoul, Korea. Data were analyzed using content analysis in order to identify significant themes. RESULTS: Participants included forty breast cancer survivors who had mastectomy as a surgical treatment. Four themes emerged from the collected data were: 1) concern over the high price of external breast prosthesis, 2) irregular use of external breast prosthesis, 3) unsatisfied with mastectomy bra, and 4) wanting to hide or not to talk about using breast prosthesis openly. CONCLUSION: Since most participants reported irregular use and negative experiences related to external breast prosthesis or mastectomy bra use, healthcare workers should allow more time for proper fitting and counseling and consulting with breast cancer survivors. In addition, health care providers as well as family and friends should keep in mind that cancer survivors need support that can help them cope by using positive reframing. Furthermore, improvements in the coverage of costs and services are needed for these women. This would be helpful for breast prosthesis users.

Fatigue is a universally common word. The subject has been studied in different disciplines, but the basic concept of the term still remains unidentified. It becomes especially important for the medical communications between nurses and clients. Based on the framework outlined by Walker and Avant(1995), this analysis attempts to clarify and examine the symptoms of fatigue. The attributes of fatigue identified in this paper were exhaustion, weighted psychological burden, shortage in capacity or lack of energy, shortage incapacity(motivation and excitement), and imbalance of energy. Therefore, the definition of fatigue refers to a subjective feeling from various internal or external stresses. The consequences of fatigue bring reduced capacity and imbalance of energy. The symptoms show a homeostatic disability or shortage of capacity (physical, psychological, environmental and physiological factors). A precise understanding of 'fatigue' will be utilized in defining the causes and measuring outcomes. Also, it will enhance the effective medical communications with clients and nurses. In conclusion, more work is needed to develop objective measurement and effective nursing intervention.

BACKGROUND: Epidural morphine has been commonly used to provide postoperative pain relief, but it has many side effects such as nausea, vomiting, respiratory depression, and pruritus. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the analgesic efficacy and side effects by combination use of epidural morphine and butorphanol. METHODS: Forty five patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. For group I, a bolus of 4.7 ml of saline and 3 mg of morphine were administered. For group II, a bolus of 4.2 ml of saline and 3 mg of morphine and 1 mg of butorphanol were administered. For group III, a bolus of 3.2 ml of saline and 3 mg of morphine and 3 mg of butorphanol were administered. Continuous epidural analgesia were administered for all groups; group I (saline 99.4 ml and morphine 6 mg), group II (saline 98.4 ml, morphine 6 mg, and butorphanol 2 mg), group III (saline 96.4 ml, morphine 6 mg, and butorphanol 6 mg) by two day infuser, 2 ml/hr. We compared the side effects and analgesic effect of the three groups for 2 days. RESULTS: The incidence of pruritus, nausea and vomiting was reduced significantly in the group II and III, but the incidence of somnolence increased in the group III. There were no significant differences in analgesic effect and the other side effects among the three groups. CONCLUSION: Above results suggest that the addition of butorphanol to morphine in epidural infusion reduce the incidence of pruritus, nausea and vomiting, but increase the incidence of somnolence.
