3.Characteristics of Animal Shoulder Models for Rotator Cuff Experiments.
Clinics in Shoulder and Elbow 2015;18(1):52-58
Animal shoulder models are important in the investigation of the natural history of various pathologic conditions and for evaluation of the effectiveness of different treatments and biomaterials. The characteristics of animal shoulder models that may be used for rotator cuff related experiments are different with regard to the anatomy, behavioral pattern, advantages and disadvantages in application to each other. The lower primates and all the non-primate species, except the tree kangaroo, were neither functional overhead nor had a true rotator cuff. Utilizing more advanced primates, or perhaps even the tree kangaroo would be ideal and the most relevant to man as they possess a true rotator cuff. However, ethical concerns, costs, and many limitations in obtaining primates generally preclude the use of these animals for such research. Finally we should consider the differences in comparative anatomy and behavioral pattern of each animal model during performance or interpretation of rotator cuff experiments.

4.Keratinizing Desquamative Squamous Metaplasia of the Upper Urinary Tract: A case report.
Korean Journal of Pathology 1991;25(1):76-80
Keratinizing desquamative squamous metaplasia of the transitional epithelium occurs rarely in the upper urinary tract, especially in the ureter. It is associated in most cases with long-standing chronic inflammation but the exact pathogenesis is unknown, and the relationship to cancer has continued to be controversial. More cases should be accumulated for a better assessmnt of this lesion. Recently, we experienced a case of keratinizing desquamative squamous metaplasia in the renal pelvis, adjacent calyces and ureter following acute and chronic pyelonephritis. Herein, we are presenting our case with a review of literatures.

7.Effects Of Glue Sniffing On Weight Increase Or Central Nervous System Of Young Rat.

Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1993;26(2):222-230
Industrial glues, known as 'Bonds' in Korea, contain many kinds of organic solvents, and glue sniffing of youths became one of the social problems in Korea. Mixed exposures to solvents by glue sniffing may induce chronic toxicities different from those by exposures to solvents of single component. To test effects of the glue sniffing on weight gain or central nervous system, two groups of 20 male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to air(control group) or vapors of the glues to narcotic status(exposed group), and weight check, tail flick test, hot plate test, rotarod treadmill test were done on the 14th, 24th, 36th, 45th, 53rd, 86th, 102nd, 117th, 134th and 151st days after the first exposure. On the 188th day, their brains were excised and examined by a pathologist. Weight gain, controlled against time change, showed significant difference between the groups, but response times in tail flick test, hot plate tests, and rotarod treadmill test didn't. In pathological examination with blind method, no macroscopic or microscopic difference were found between the two groups. These results suggests that organic lesion in central nervous system may not ensue glue sniffing, but, before firm conclusion, more studies in various exposure conditions should be followed.

9.Clinical Observation of Corneal Graft: An Interim Report of 25 Keratoplasties.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1969;10(3):9-17
Authors performed 25 corneal grafts in 24 patients since the inauguration of The Central Eye Bank, attached to the Department of Ophthalmology, St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic Medical College, in April 19, 1967. Method and results of these cases are as follows; METHOD: In technique of surgery, the grafts in most of the cases were 7 mm in diameter(Table 3), in two types of penetrating and lamellar corneal grafts(Table 4). The donor material came from patient age group of 51-60 years old in most and was used within 24 hours after death (Table 5). In most cases we placed 12 interrupted sutures except of two cases for continuous suture by 8-0 virgin silks. Preoperative and postoperative cares were routine with systemic dexamethasone, 7.0mg a day was given routinely on the 5 th postoperative day for 30-50 days because of prevention of graft rejection. RESULTS AND SUMMARY: Table 7 summbrizes the results of our observation. Nineteen of the 25 grafts remained clear. And there was improved vision above 20/200 in ten eyes out of nineteen clear grafts. Table 10 lists the reasons why nine clear grafts did not improve vision. Postoperative complications occurred in fourteen grafts (Table 11). Penetrating corneal grafts for adherent leucoma courneae, staphyloma corneae and corneal scars from alkaline burn were failed to maintaining the clear graft. The donor material, the recipient cornea, graft rejection as a complication and its prevantion were discussed. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: We wish to express our sincere gratitude to an those who have guided in carrying out the present investigation. 10.The usefulness of thin-section rapid infusion CT for detection of cerebral aneurysm.
Jong Min KIM ; So Sun KIM ; Jin Do HUH
Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1993;29(6):1116-1120
With 2mm-thick CT scanning during the rapid infusion of contrast material(TICT), cerebral aneurysms arising from the circle of Willis and adjacent vessels can be directly visualized. Twenty-five patients who had cerebral aneurysm confirmed by surgery were examined with TIGT and digital subtraction angiography. The authors examined TIGT prospectively to assess the detection rate of the cerebal aneurysms and to evaluate the clinical usefulness of TIGT. The detection rates of aneurysms by TIGT and digital subtraction angiography were 68% and 84%, respectively. TIGT is a rapid, safe and reliable method in the evaluation of patients with suspected cerebral aneurysm, permitting direct visualization of the aneurysm.
