Undifferentiated sarcoma of the liver is a highly malignant neoplasm that occurs almost exclusively in children. We present a case of adult undifferentiated sarcoma in a 33-year-old man. The neoplasm was typically hypovascular on hepatic angiography and a globular, cystic and mucoid mass separated from the adjacent liver by a psedocapsule was removed from the left lobe of the liver. Necrosis and hemorrhage were found. Microscopically the neoplasm consisted of myxoid and cellular areas and the basic neoplastic cells were stellate cells showing variable degree of anaplasia and pleomorphism. Eosinophilic globules were PAS-positive and immunohistochemically negative for alpha-fetoprotein. Extramedullary hematopoiesis was present and normal-appearing bile ducts and hepatic cell cords were noted.

Korean Journal of Ophthalmology 2008;22(3):174-177
PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of unilateral medial rectus muscle resection for recurrent exotropia after bilateral lateral rectus muscle recession for intermittent exotropia METHODS: A retrospective analysis was made of thirtypatients who underwent unilateral medial rectus resection for recurrent exotropia. All had prior bilateral lateral rectus recession for intermittent exotropia. Data were collected for age, the preoperative deviation, the postoperative deviation at 2 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and the last visit, and the amount of medial rectus resection performed. RESULTS: The average preoperative deviation was 27.0+/-3.6 PD. After unilateral medial rectus resection, average deviation at distance was 2.8 PD at postoperative 2 weeks, 4.5 PD at 3 months, 5.1 PD at 6 months and 5.8 PD at last visit. The average deviation corrected per millimeter of medial rectus resection was 3.53+/-0.17 PD/mm. CONCLUSIONS: Considering that deviation angles of recurrent exotropia is smaller than those of primary surgery and the possibility of saving the other medial rectus muscle, unilateral rectus muscle resection could be effective surgical method for recurrent exotropia.

3.Long-Term Clinical Outcomes of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Using Drug-Eluting Stents in Octogenarians and Older.
Korean Circulation Journal 2007;37(12):647-655
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: In this current era of using drug-eluting stents (DES), studies that demonstrate the feasibility and clinical outcome of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using DES in a subset of extremely aged patients are lacking. We investigated the clinical characteristics, therapeutic and clinical outcomes of patients older than 80 years that had been implanted with DES during a PCI. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Fifty-three "octogenarian" patients (> or =80-years-old) and 1036 "non-octogenarian" patients (<80-years-old) that had been implanted with DES at Chonbuk National University Hospital since March 2003 were enrolled in the study. Medical records of the patients in the two groups were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: The mean ages of the patients in the two groups were 83+/-2 years and 62+/-11 years, respectively, and the mean follow-up period was 15.8+/-10.9 months and 21.1+/-10.8 months, respectively. The octogenarian group showed an increased prevalence of female patients (58.5% vs. 35.1%, p=0.001), acute coronary syndrome (98.1% vs. 78.6%, p=0.001), ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (41.5% vs. 28.3%, p=0.003), shock (17.0% vs. 6.6%, p=0.004), heart failure (22.6% vs. 9.3%, p=0.002) and a higher in-hospital major adverse cardiac event (MACE) rate (13.2% vs. 3.5%, p=0.004) than the non-octogenarian patients. Angiographic restenosis and target lesion revascularization rates were not different in both groups, but overall MACE (18.9% vs. 9.9%, p=0.035) and all-cause mortality (p<0.001) rates were significantly higher in the octogenarian group of patients. CONCLUSION: Although angiographic follow-up results were comparable in octogenarians and non-octogenarians, the occurrence of short- and long-term MACE was significantly higher in the very elderly group owing to a substantial subset of high-risk patients.

Korean Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care 2021;24(2):109-115
Purpose:
This study aimed to investigate the effects of aroma foot baths on stress and sleep in terminally ill cancer patients.
Methods:
We performed a non-randomized interventioncontrol study with 30 terminal cancer patients who were admitted to a palliative care unit.Participants responded to questionnaires on stress and sleep before and after a 5-day interval. The intervention group received a daily aroma foot bath for 5 days. We performed multivariate regression analysis to examine the changes in outcomes on stress and sleep for the intervention group compared to the control group.
Results:
The differences in baseline characteristics between groups, excluding subjective economic status and general weakness, did not show statistical significance. In contrast to the control group, the intervention group showed a statistically significant change in physical stress and psychological stress levels, but significant changes were not observed in quality of sleep. Compared to the control group, the intervention group showed a significant reduction in physical stress (P=0.068) and psychological stress (P=0.021).
Conclusion
Aroma foot baths are effective for reducing stress in patients hospitalized with terminal cancer.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is a zoonotic, tick-borne RNA virus of the genus Bandavirus (Family Phenuiviridae), mainly reported in China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (Korea). For the purpose of this study, a total of 3,898 adult and nymphal ticks of species Haemaphysalis longicornis (94.2%), Haemaphysalis flava (5.0%), Ixodes nipponensis (0.8%), and 1 specimen of Ixodes ovatus, were collected from the Deogyusan National Park, Korea, between April 2016 and June 2018. A single-step reverse transcriptase–nested PCR was performed, targeting the S segment of the SFTSV RNA. Total infection rate (IR) of SFTSV in individual ticks was found to be 6.0%. Based on developmental stages, IR was 5.3% in adults and 6.0% in nymphs. The S segment sequences obtained from PCR were divided into 17 haplotypes. All haplotypes were phylogenetically clustered into clades B-2 and B-3, with 92.7% sequences in B-2 and 7.3% in B-3. These observations indicate that the Korean SFTSV strains were closer to the Japanese than the Chinese strains. Further epidemiological studies are necessary to better understand the characteristics of the Korean SFTSV and its transmission cycle in the ecosystem.

PURPOSE: The cortical bone thickness on the anterior region is important for achieving implant stability. The purpose of this study was to examine the thickness of the cortical and cancellous bones on the anterior region of the maxilla and mandible. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-five cadaver heads were used (16 male and 9 female; mean death age, 56.7 years). After the long axis of alveolar process was set up, it was measured in 5 levels starting from 2 mm below the cementoenamel junction (L1) at intervals of 3 mm. All data was analysed statistically by one-way ANOVA at the .05 significance level. RESULTS: The cortical bone thickness according to measurement levels in both the labial and lingual sides increased from L1 to L5, and the lingual side below L3 was significantly thicker than the labial side on the maxilla and mandible. In particular, the labial cortical bone thickness in the maxilla was the thinnest compared to the other regions. The cancellous bone thickness according to measurement levels increased from L1 to L5 on the maxilla, and on the mandible it was the thinnest at the middle level of the root. CONCLUSION: For implant placement on the anterior region, a careful evaluation and full knowledge on the thickness of the cortical and cancellous bone are necessary, therefore, these results may provide an anatomic guideline to clinicians.
