OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the expression of microtuble-associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC).
METHOD:
The expression of LC3 in 50 cases of LSCC, 45 cases of para-carcinoma, 10 cases of laryngeal papilloma and 16 cases of polyp of vocal cord were detected by immunohistochemistry (MaxVision method). Expression level of LC3 mRNA was assayed by RT-PCR in 41 of LSCC, 41 of para-carcinoma tissue and 11 of polyp of vocal cord.
RESULT:
The positive rates of LC3 protein expression were 60.0%, 93.3%, 90.0%, 93.8% in LSCC tissue, para-carcinoma, laryngeal papilloma and poly of vocal card tissues, respectively. The positive rates of LC3 were significantly lower in LSCC than in para-carcinoma and poly of vocal cord (chi2 = 18.135, P < 0.01). The mRNA levels of LC3 were significantly lower in LSCC than in para-carcinoma and poly of vocal cord (0.57 +/- 0.08 )vs (0.99 +/- 0.11) and (1.07 +/- 0.05) , F = -255.872, P < 0.01. The expression of LC3 were related to tumor location and pathological grade (P < 0.05), but not related to age, T stage, clinical stage and lymphoid metastasis (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSION
Expression of LC3 are down-regulated in LSCC. The change of autophagic capacity may play an important role in occurrence and development of LSCC.

STOMATOLOGY 2023;43(3):233-236
Objective:
To study the effect of a space stabilizing device on the capacity for osteogenesis in the bone-grafted area.
Methods:
Patients with anterior teeth defects as well as labial alveolar ridge defects were randomly divided into two groups: the experimental group was treated using a space stabilization device after guided bone regeneration whereas the control group received regular guided bone regeneration. The CBCT data was analyzed prior to, immediately and 6 months after procedure to compare the osteogenesis with or without the device.
Results:
Seventeen bone-grafted sites were examined(7 in the experimental group and 10 in the control group). At 2 mm and 4 mm below the alveolar ridge, the horizontal bone resorption rate in the experimental group was significantly lower than the corresponding level in the control group(P=0.001). The horizontal bone resorption rate at 2 mm below the alveolar ridge of each group was significantly higher than that at 4 mm below the alveolar ridge in corresponding groups(P=0.003).
Conclusion
The space stabilizing device used in this study has a positive clinical impact on preserving space stability and minimizing bone resorption.

Objective:To explore the feasibility of the diameter of pupils during recovery period for predicting early postopera‐tive hypoxemia of patients undergoing gynecological laparoscopy with general anesthesia .Methods:A total of 70 adult female patients classified as I‐II according to American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA)Criteria ,who underwent gynecological lapa‐roscopy during Oct 2013 and Dec 2013 ,were chosen .The operations were performed with total intravenous anesthesia .The di‐ameter of pupils upon arriving at postanesthesia care unit(PACU) .Patients were divided into two groups ,the group A (diame‐ter of pupil was <2 mm) and the group B (diameter of pupil was ≥2 mm) .The pulse oxygenation saturation(SpO2 ) immedi‐ately after inserting nasal catheter and 2 ,4 ,6 ,8 ,10 ,20 ,30 min after administering 3 L/min oxygen inhalation through nasal catheter ,were compared .Results:The value of SpO2 in group A was significantly lower than that in group B at 2 min and 4 min after arriving at PACU ,however ,the difference between two groups was not statistically significant at 6 min after arriving at PACU .The smaller the diameter of pupil on arriving at PACU was ,the lower the value of SpO2 at 2 min after arriving was , and there was a linear correlation between the two factors(r2 =0 .4268) .The area under receiver operator characteristic of the diameter of pupil for predicting the lowest value of SpO2 at 10 min after arriving at PACU was 0 .99 .It showed a very high ac‐curacy of the diameter of pupil for predicting postoperative hypoxemia .The threshold of the diameter of pupil for evaluation was 2 .25 mm .Its sensibility for predicting postoperative hypoxemia was 91 .4% ,and its specificity was 100% .Conclusions:The diameter of pupils during recovery period was correlated with the occurrence of early hypoxemia after general anesthesia . By checking the diameter of pupils upon arriving at PACU ,the monitoring on patients with sign of respiratory depression could be strengthened .

Myelofibrosis is characterized by excessive deposition of collagen, laminin and fibronectin within the bone marrow stroma. These change can be due to primary myeloproliferative disorders, a variety of malignant process, endocrine disturbances, or inflammatory disease. Clinical and laboratory finding are suggest in the immune process with myelofibrosis. It has been rarely reported that myelofibrosis coexisting with SLE. This is a case report of systemic lupus erythematosus coexisting with bone marrow fibrosis in a 44 years old female patient presenting with menorrhagia, syncope and palpitation. We report the case with relevant literature review. Treatment with corticosteroid in a patient with SLE and myelofibrosis remit to the clinical and hematologic abnormalities.
