1.An Analysis of the Synovial Fluid in the Rheumatoid Arthritis
The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1982;17(2):229-234
An analysis of the joint fluid should be performed as part of the diagnostic evaluation in any patient with joint disease. It is an important role in the differential diagnosis of the joint disease such as pyogenic arthritis, traumatic arthritis, degenerative and rheumatoid arthritis and others. The authors examined synovial fluid analysis in 33 cases of rheumatoid arthritis at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Chosun University Hospital. The following results were obtained. 1. The age and sex distribution was 21 cases in the male and 12 cases in the female. The sex ratio between male and female was 1.8:l. 2. The gross appearance of synovial fluid was greenish-yellow with turbid in 29 cases, and 4 cases were transparent with clear and yellow colored. The range of specific gravity was 1.028, it was more higher than normal values. 3. The range of white blood cell count in the synovial fluid was 5955/cubic mililiter in its average and polymorphonuclear leukocytes found the major part of cell counts (63.6%). 4. The glucose content in the synovial fluid was 72.8 mg/100ml in the range of average. It was tended to decrease compared with increase leukocyte numbers. 5. The latex fixation test in the synovial fluid was positive reaction in 93.9%, and was more higher value than its serum reaction in the blood. 6. The protein content in the synovial fluid was 6.9 gm/100ml) in the range of average, and it was 1.7 times more higher value than the reported literature. The correlationship of protein content between the duration of disease and its prevalences could not found the clinical significance. 7. The relationship between the age and the clinical course in the synovial fluid analysis was not significant finding of its fluid content and others, but the more pronounced pattern was revealed in the acute stage of rheumatoid arthritis in the joint fluid.

The Korean Journal of Parasitology 1972;10(1):1-7
A survey of intestinal parasites was performed during the period from April 1970 to December 1971 in ROKA (Republic of Korea Army) soldiers. Samples were collected from 591 Army troops(enlisted men), 1,755 recruits at completion of 6 weeks basic training, 304 recruits during basic training and 245 stool specimens of students of ROKA Nursing School at Taegu area. Each of the specimens was examined one time or twice under the microscope, one for protozoan cysts stained with iodine solution and the other for helminth eggs. Findings were summerized as follows: A positive rate of intestinal parasites was 88.0 percent by Formalin-Ether concentration method and 89.2 percent by Kato's method. Of the 541 soldiers examined by Formalin-Ether concentration method, the infection rate of A. lumbricoides was 28.1 percent, T. trichiurus 79.3 percent, hookworm 14.2 percent, T. orientalis 30.7 percent, C. sinensis 7.8 percent and M. yokogawai 0.6 percent. Of the 1,532 soldiers examined by Kato's method A. lumbricoides showed positive rate of 45.8 percent, T. trichiurus 78.3 percent, T. orientalis 1 4.5 percent, hookworm 7.5 percent, C. sinensis 6.6 percent and Taenia sp. 0.6 percent. The incidence of E. vermicularis out of 822 samples was 19.8 percent from the anal swabs. E. histolytica was recovered in 4.2 percent among 541 samples, E. coli 6.1 percent and also infected G. lamblia, E. nana, I. butschlii and Chilomastix mesnili. Most of the infected cases revealed single or double infections.

Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1996;13(2):324-346
A survey was conducted to study attitudes of physician, nurse and patient towards physician's and nurse's uniform, from March 1 to March 31, 1996. The study population was 130 physicians and 147 nurses engaged in Yeungnam University Medical Center and 211 inpatients of Yeungnam University Medical Center. A questionnaire method was used to collect data. The following are summaries of findings: In the respect of physician's uniform, both physicians and nurses preferred other type of gown to the traditional coat-typed one and especially, nurses preferred more than physicians. Patients showed no difference in the preference of the traditional one and other form of gown as a whole but those who had higher educational level preferred other form of gown(p<0.01). It tended to agree wearing casual wear of physician during the working time of weekend and holiday as a whole. Younger physicians showed significantly higher preference for it(p<0.05). Regarding the nurse's uniform, both physicians and nurses preferred trousers, and 96% of the nurses did. Especially, nurses who were forty years old or more and who served at outpatient department and administrative and aid parts expressed 100 percent partiality to trousers. For the patients, those who had lower educational level preferred skirt and those who had higher educational level preferred trousers. As to the color of nurse's gown, 46.7% of the physicians and nurses liked white color. The physicians preferred white and nurses preferred other color(p<0.01). Of the patients, 79.1% liked white color. Regarding the wearing cap, 95.9% of the nurses replied it didn't have to wear the cap. The nurses who were fifty or more and who served at outpatient department and special parts gave whole answers of not having to wear the cap. On the other hand, 77.7% of the patients answered nurse had to wear the cap. From the above findings, it would be advisable to give a change to the forms and colors of the gowns to match with the trend and sense of the time instead of insisting on the traditional typical ones.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1993;31(2):157-162
BACKGROUND: Laminin, which is present in all basement membrane, is a multifunctional glycoprotein with diverse biological activities. Like fibronectin, it can influence cell adhesion, growth, morphology, differentiation, and migration as well as the assembly of the extracellular matrix. Laminin primarily affects cells of epithelial origin, and response varies depending on the cells. OBJECTIVE: Studies about the relationship of laminin and the pathogenesis or metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma(SCC). MEHTODS: In this study, we have examined the laminin B1 mRNA expression and localizing pattern of laminin in SCC, using Northern and slot-blot hybridization, in situ hybridization and immunoperoxidase stain. RESULTS: In Northern blot hybridization, 5.6Kb mRNA transcript was detected in control and SCC specimens. Slot-blot hybridization indicated theat amounts of laminin B1 mRNA expression in SCC was 677.0+/-268.5 densitometer absorbance unit, in control was 228.0+/-16.37 unit respectively. There is a 3-fold increase in SCC compared to control. In in situ hybridization, 35S-labeled laminin B1 cDNA-mRNA hybrid granules were detected along the basement membrane and adjacent cells of SCC. In immunoperoxidase stain, laminin has stained strongly and continuously along the basement membrane of the tumor nest in well differentiated SCC, and weakly and interrupted in poorly differentiated SCC. CONCLUSION: These results suggested that laminin might be related to the pathogenesisand metastasis of squamous cell carcinomas.

10.Effects of an Interactive Smoking Cessation Coaching Program on Smoking in Female College Students
Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2023;30(1):102-114
Purpose:
This study aimed to examine the effects of an interactive smoking cessation coaching program on smoking cessation motivation, smoking knowledge, smoking shame, urine cotinine levels, tobacco craving and smoking abstinence self-efficacy. The conceptual framework of the study applied Cox’s interaction model of client health behavior for female college students who smoked.
Methods:
This was a before-and-after experimental design study with a non-equivalent control group. The participants were smoking female college students, who were assigned either to an experimental group (n=22) or a control group (n=24). The interaction model of client health behavior was the theoretical basis. The core tactic of smart management and strategy for health was applied as a coaching technique. The experimental group attended 11 sessions of an interactive smoking cessation coaching program, (60 to 120 minutes per session) for 6 weeks, and the control group received education regarding smoking cessation after the program finished. The data collection period was from January 23, 2019 to March 7, 2019.
Results:
This study showed differences in smoking cessation motivation (F=71.09, p<.001), smoking knowledge (F=20.77, p<.001), smoking shame (t=5.11, p<.001), urine cotinine levels (t=-9.58, p<.001) and smoking abstinence self-efficacy (t=11.68, p<.001). However, no difference in tobacco cravings (t=-1.57, p=.127) was found.
Conclusion
As a result of the interactive smoking cessation coaching program, statistically significant differences were found in smoking cessation motivation, smoking knowledge, smoking shame, urine cotinine levels and smoking abstinence self-efficacy. However, further research is needed because there was no statistically significant difference in tobacco cravings.
