The frozen section technique is a means of intraoperative pathological diagnosis, and a procedure of great value to the surgeon. This method should be accurate, rapid and reliable. This method serves useful purposes, such as determining the presence of tumor, its type (especially whether it is benign or malignant), the adequacy of a biopsy of a suspected lesion, and the conditions of the surgical margins. But, it bears many disadvantages, the most of which is the danger of incorrect diagnosis. We studied the indications, the limitations, and the accuracy of the frozen section method and the materials studies was total of frozen section diagnosis of 809 cases was 98.1% with 0.5% of false negative, 0% of false positive 0.5% of incorrect histological diagnosis or grading errors, and 0.9% of deferred cases. The tissues submitted were lymph node, gastrointestinal tract, skin subcutaneous tissues in decreasing oder of frequency. The false positive case is not present, while the false negative cases were 4.

Journal of Korean Clinical Nursing Research 2017;23(3):350-360
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the present status of falls among inpatients in general hospitals and to identify the fall risk factors that reflect the characteristics of domestic hospitals. METHODS: Data were collected between December 15, 2016 and January 15, 2017 from 32 Korean hospitals having 500 or more beds. First, 42 risk factors were extracted based on literature review and expert opinions. Then the importance of each factor was evaluated by 223 nurses from medical and surgical adult ward and intensive care units in 40 hospitals. RESULTS: The incidence rate of falls in 18 hospitals was 3.87 per 1,000 total discharged patients and 0.55 per 1,000 patient-days, and the rate of injury-related falls was 40.5%. Major risk factors for falling were identified as the following: being over 65 years of age, history of falls during admission, physical mobility disorders requiring assistance, physical factors (dizziness or vertigo, unstable gait, general weakness, walking aids, visual problems), cognitive factors (delirium, lack of understanding on limitations), neurological disease, CNS medications CONCLUSION: The findings provide information that can be in the development of a fall risk assessment tool for inpatients in general hospitals in Korea.

Korean Journal of Community Nutrition 2006;11(2):191-204
This study was carried out to investigate the experiences of breast milk feeding information and education, breast milk feeding knowledge and attitude and needs for breast milk feeding nutrition education of high school students to encourage breast milk feeding. The subjects were 565 (male: 250, female: 315) high school students from first to third grade. The results obtained were as follows: In this survey, only 30.0% of subjects experienced breast milk feeding information and only 6.1% of subjects had breast milk feeding education. And the subjects showed the average scores of knowledge of breast milk feeding were 0.29 points of 1 point. Subjects knew well about ingredients of breast milk but they didn't know well about the physiology and method of breast milk feeding and benefits of breast milk feeding for mothers. The average scores of attitude of breast milk feeding were 3.03 points of 4 points, showed slight positive attitudes of breast milk feeding, but they had negative attitudes of emotional and practical aspects. The future plan of feeding practices was breast milk feeding 35.9% and 60.0% of formula milk feeding. A concern was that the students showed high ratio of formula milk feeding plan and they decided by incorrect knowledge of breast milk feeding. The 33.5% of students answered high school students will need breast milk feeding nutrition education, and they thought hospital faculties were the proper educators of breast milk feeding education, but dietitians were recomended as educators because of easy access at school and good knowledge of life-cycle nutrition. Therefore, to encourage breast milk feeding by mothers and supporters of breast milk feeding, breast milk feeding nutrition education is needed urgently among high school male and female students. And nutrition education programs will have to contain benefits of breast milk for babies and mothers and physiology and practical methods of breast milk feeding to improve emotional and practical attitudes for breast milk feeding. Nationwide campaign to promote breast milk feeding at public areas will be needed.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1997;37(1):9-15
PURPOSE: To evaluate the utility of FLAIR (Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery) MR imaging in cerebral infarction by comparing its results with those of T2-weighted spin-echo imaging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated fast FLAIR images and conventional spin echo images of 82 patients (47 men and 20 women; median age 60.9 years) with cerebral infarction. MR imaging used a 1.5T MR unit with conventional T2 (TR 3900, TE 90) and fast FLAIR sequence (TR 8000, TE 105, TI 2400). We analysed the size of the main lesion and number of lesions, and discrimination between old and new lesions and between small infarction and perivascular space. RESULTS: When T2-weighted and FLAIR imaging were compared, the latter showed that the main lesion was larger in 38 cases (46%), similar in 38 (46%), and smaller in six (7%). The number of lesions was greater in 23 cases (28%), similar in 52 (63%), and fewer in seven (9%). FLAIR images discriminated between old and new lesions in 31 cases ; perivascular space and small infartion were differentiated in eight cases, and CSF inflowing artifact was observed in 66 (80%). CONCLUSION: In the diagnosis of cerebral infaretion, fast FLAIR provides images that are equal or superior to T2-weighted images. The fast FLAIR sequence may therefore be used as a part of routine MR brain study in the diagnosis of cerebral infarction.

A 28-year-old female devei, oped five rice-sized erythematous telaniectatic solid papules of her left side of cheek and numerous light brownish flat papules of her face two years before visiting our department of dermatology. Biopsy results of the erythematous papule vere dermal infiltration by well-differentiated, however, somewhat atypical and varying sized plasma cells involving epidermis, and the flat papule was that of verwca plana. Bone marrow aspirate was essentially normal. Primary cutaneous plasmacytoma is a rare disease. A significant proportion of patients with this ent on to develop systemic disease with a poor prognosis. Our patient was not treatead, bit only excised partially for biopsy. All skin lesions involuted two years later spontaneously and rema ns well until now six years later without recurring.

10.Expression of Spinal c-fos in a Rat Model of Postoperative Pain.
Sok Ju DOH ; Suk Ki CHOI ; Hee Cheol JIN
Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 2008;54(3):328-334
BACKGROUND: The oncogene, c-fos, is a useful marker of nociceptive neurons activated by various types of pain. However, the relationship between c-fos and acute pain induced by surgical incision has not been studied. The purpose of this study was to describe the expression of spinal c-fos in a rat model of postoperative pain. METHODS: Sprague-Dawley rats were used to enumerate spinal fos-like immunoreactive (fos-LI)-positive neurons after making sham, skin, or skin-muscle incisions on the plantar surface of the rat hindpaw. The spinal cords were divided into the following 4 segments for immunohistochemical detection of fos-LI at 3 time points after the incision (4 hours, POD1, and POD3):thoracic, upper lumbar, lower lumbar, and sacral. For analysis of the laminar distribution of fos-LI, the dorsal horn was divided into three regions (I-II, III-IV, and V-VI). RESULTS: The number of fos-LI was increased in the ipsilateral spinal dorsal horn in the lower lumbar segment 4 hours post-incision and was significantly greater in rats with skin-muscle incisions than in rats with skin-alone incisions. In the skin-muscle group, laminae I-II and V-VI had a greater number of fos-LI neurons than laminae III-IV.The increase in number of spinal fos-LI neurons normalized by POD1 and POD3. CONCLUSIONS: c-fos expression is confined to neurons of the spinal dorsal horn known to be activated by nociceptive stimulation. The larger the injury elicited, the greater the expression of c-fos, suggesting that the expression of c-fos can serve as a useful marker of activated nociceptive neurons caused by acute pain following surgical incision.Further study is required to elucidate why the degree of tissue injury affects the laminar distribution of c-fos expression.
