Objective To investigate the effect of clinical application of ERA resilient attachment on Kennedy Ⅰ dentition defect. Methods Twenty-eight Kennedy Ⅰ dentition defect cases were restored by ERA resilient attachment dentures. After the examination of the function of the dentures, oral tissue, X-ray, the satisfaction to the dentures was evaluated. Results After the follow-up of 6 to 32 months, all the patients were satisfied with the dentures in esthetic, retention, normal function and healthy peri-odontium. Conclusion ERA resilient attachment is an esthetieal, economical and reliable approach to Kennedy Ⅰ dentition defect restoration.

Objective: This study was designed to investigate the relationship between p16 protein expression and gastric carcinogenesis, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, and evaluate the role of deletion and mutation of p16 gene in exon 2 in gastric carcinoma. Methods: p16 protein expression in gastric carcinoma and precancerous lesion was examined by streptavidin-peroxidase conjugated(S-P) method; The deletion and mutation of p16 gene were examined respectively by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and polymerase chain reaction single-strand conformation polymorphism analysis(PCR-SSCP) in gastric carcinoma. Results: ① The positive rates of p16 protein expression were 96.25% (77/80) in normal gastric mucosa, 92.00% (45/50) in dysplastic gastric mucosa, and 47.54% (58/122) in gastric carcinoma. The positive rate of p16 protein expression in gastric carcinoma was significantly lower than that in normal gastric mucosa and in dysplastic gastric mucosa (P<0.05). ② The positive rate of p16 protein expression in mucoid carcinoma (10.00% ,1/10) was significantly lower than that of poorly differentiated carcinoma (51.22% ,21/41), undifferentiated carcinoma (57.69% ,15/26), and signet ring cell carcinoma (62.50% ,10/16) (P< 0.05). ③ The positive rates of p16 protein in 30 cases paired primary and lymph node metastatic gastric carcinoma were 46.67 % (14/30) in primary gastric carcinoma,16.67% (5/30) in lymph node metastatic gastric carcinoma. The positive rate of lymph node metastatic carcinoma was significantly lower than that of primary carcinoma(P<0.05). ④ Evaluation of mutation and deletion of p16 gene: There was no mutation of p16 gene in exon 2, but there were 5 cases displayed deletion of p16 gene in exon 2 in the 25 primary gastric carcinoma. Conclusions: ① The expression loss of p16 protein is related to carcinogenesis, histopathological subtypes, and lymph metastasis of gastric carcinoma. ② The mutation of p16 gene in exon 2 may not be involved in gastric carcinogenesis. But the deletion of p16 gene in exon 2 might be involved in gastric carcinogenesis.

Objective To confirm the distribution of high arsenic drinking water and the situation of endemic arsenism in Hubei Province, to provide reference basis for prevention and control of endemic arsenic disease. Methods Using typical investigation and sample investigation in 2006 and 2007, the arsenic content of water was detected sampled from 19 counties(cities or communities). And those water samples which were close to or exceeded the stipulated standard were rechecked by the national standard method. Furthermore, the situation of endemic arsenism was investigated in the cities having high arsenic contents of water. Results In 2006,10 028 water samples of 446 villages in 6 counties (cities or communities) were tested, the wells of high arsenic (> 0.05 mg/L) were found in 5 counties (cities or communities) and the proportion of the well that exceeded stipulated standard was 5.29%(530/10 028); In 2007,19 086 water samples of 1282 villages in 17 counties(cities or communities) were tested, the wells of high arsenic were found in 11 counties(cities or communities), and the proportion of the well that exceeded stipulated standard was 1.74%(333/19 086). In these two years, 29 114 water samples were tested, in which 863 water samples were exceeding the stipulated standard. The 2.96% of total wells exceeded stipulated standard and mainly distributed in 179 villages of 12 counties(cities or communities). And the highest arsenic content of water sample was 2.012 mg/L. In the endemic arsenism area, 2 critical, 1 moderate and 1 mild arsenism patients had been found. Conclusions The water of high arsenic content are scattered in Hubei Province and the situation of endemic arsenism disease is mild. Improving water aiming at decreasing arsenic and establishing patient files should be carried out immediately.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility of endoscope assisted transaxillary subglandular breast augmentation in order to minimize the bleeding and tissue injury.
METHODSSince 2005, 27 patients underwent endoscope assisted transaxillary subglandular breast augmentation. Intraoperative bleeding and dissection injury were markedly decreased.
RESULTSThere was no hematoma, seroma and infection except for one case with partial poor incision healing. 16 cases were followed-up for six months to one year. Only one case developed fibrous capsular contracture (Baker II). Good results achieved in all the other cases.
CONCLUSIONSEndoscope assisted breast augmentation can reduce the pain, bleeding and tissue injury. It can also help to put implants to right position.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2004;20(3):259-262
AIMTo investigate the cellular signal transduction pathway of vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation stimulated by insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1).
METHODSRabbit aortic VSMCs was cultured in 3 groups. Cell proliferating ability was determined by measuring cell number and mitochondrial dehydrogenase (MD) activity (MTT assay). Wortmannin (WT), the specific inhibitor of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K), was used to evaluate indirectly the possible involvement of PI3K. Western blotting was used to detect the protein expression of phosphatase PTEN. Diphosphate action of PTEN on its specific substrate diC16PIP3 was measured by green reagent method.
RESULTSIGF-1 (100 microg/L) increased cell number and MD activity by 2.8-3.8 fold. WT markedly inhibited VSMC proliferation and completely abolished the above effects of IGF-1. IGF-1 inhibited PTEN activity in a concentration-(10-100 microg/L) and time--(3 min-24 h) dependent manner (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONIGF-1 increases VSM proliferation by increasing PI3K activity and inhibiting PTEN activity.
