Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine 2008;42(4):239-243
OBJECTIVETo investigate the association between the polymorphism of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene start codon (Fok I) and bone mass accrual, and assessing if such an association could be modified by physical activity in Chinese adolescent girls.
METHODSA total of 228 premenrche Chinese girls (9-11.5-years-old) were recruited for 2-year study. Bone mineral densities (BMD) at the total body, total left hip (including femoral neck, trochanter, intertrochanteric and Ward's triangle area) and lumbar spine (L1-L4) were measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. The Fok I polymorphism of VDR gene was detected with PCR-RFLP.
RESULTSThere remained 176 available subjects in our cohort when 2-year study was completed. No significant association was observed between Fok I polymorphism of VDR gene and percentage change in BMD at all sites. Girls with FF genotype had lower percentage change in total left hip BMD (THBMD) and femoral neck BMD (FNBMD) than girls with Ff + ff genotype only in low physical activity(< 1197 kJ/d), and physical activity was associated with percentage change in THBMD and FNBMD only in FF genotype group.
CONCLUSIONThe Fok I polymorphism of VDR gene should have significant interaction effect with physical activity on bone mass accrual in Chinese adolescent girls. Girls with FF genotype in low physical activity would be the potential risk population for low bone mass accrual, and high physical activity would be of benefit to gain higher bone mass accrual for girls with FF genotype.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the diagnostic significance of basophil activation test (BAT) in anaphylaxis to non-ionic contrast media through testing the content of CD63, mast cell-carboxypeptidase A3 (MC-CPA3), and terminal complement complex SC5b-9 of the individuals by testing their levels in the normal immune group and the anaphylaxis groups to β-lactam drugs and non -ionic contrast media.
METHODS:
The CD63 expression of basophilic granulocyte in blood was detected by flow cytometry. The levels of MC-CPA3 in blood serum and SC5b-9 in blood plasma were detected by ELISA.
RESULTS:
The CD63 expression of basophilic granulocyte in blood, the levels of MC-CPA3 and SC5b-9 of anaphylaxis to non-ionic contrast media and β-lactam drugs were significantly higher than that in normal immune group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
There is activation of basophilic granulocytes, mast cells and complement system in anaphylaxis to non-ionic contrast media. BAT can be used to diagnose the anaphylaxis to non-ionic contrast media.

OBJECTIVEThis study was to investigate an operation, in which removing breast cysts of foreign body resulted from augmentation with polyacrylamide hydrogel injection was performed simultaneously with silicone prosthesis implantation under SEPS endoscope in order to relieve tissue injury and increase the accuracy of clearance.
METHODSEight patients were included in this study. Preoperative type B ultrasound examination was performed to mark the mass. Through an axillary approach, the cysts of foreign body that were distributed in the subcutaneous tissue, breast or muscle were separated and ablated under SEPS endoscope. After removal of the foreign body, a silicone implant was located submuscularly for breast augmentation.
RESULTSThe operations were completed without hematoma and infection. Follow-up of the eight patients for 3 to 12 months showed that preoperative symptoms relating to the injected material, such as breast pain, lump and asymmetry, have no longer existed. The shapes of the breasts were satisfactory.
CONCLUSIONSWe believe that endoscope-assisted mammoplasty offers more satisfactory clinical results with less injury, less morbidity, less scars, more accuracy and greater patient acceptance.

Chinese Journal of Medical Genetics 2008;25(2):136-140
OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and calcium sensing receptor (CASR) gene polymorphisms on bone mass accrual in Chinese adolescent girls.
METHODSA total of 228 premenarche Chinese girls (9-11.5 years) were recruited for a 2-year study. Bone mineral densities (BMD) and Bone mineral contents (BMC) in the total body, total left hip including femoral neck, trochanter, intertrochanter and Ward's triangle area, and lumbar spine (L1-L4) were measured by DEXA. The -634C/G polymorphism of IL-6 gene was detected by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism and A986S polymorphism of CASR gene was detected by allele-special mutagenically separated amplication-PCR.
RESULTSThere were 176 available subjects when the 2-year study was completed. The -634C/G polymorphism of IL-6 gene and A986S polymorphism of CASR gene were significantly associated with bone mass accrual after adjusting the potential confounding factors. Girls with CC genotype of IL-6 -634G/C gene had higher percentage of increase in BMD of total body (P= 0.027) and femoral trochanter (P= 0.028) than those with CG+ GG genotypes. Girls with AA genotype of CASR gene had greater percentage of increase in L1-L4 lumbar spine BMC (P= 0.022) and Ward's triangle area BMD (P= 0.049) than their AS+ SS counterparts. Subjects with G allele of IL-6 gene in combination with S allele of CASR gene had less increase in BMC of femoral neck and L1-L4 lumbar spine.
CONCLUSIONAdolescent girls carrying the G allele of IL-6 gene at -634C/G and S allele of CASR gene at A986S could potentially be the risk population of lower bone mass accrual.

Chinese Journal of Cardiology 2011;39(1):49-52
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the value of dual source computed tomography coronary angiography (DSCT-CA) on detecting in-stent restenosis (> 50% luminal narrowing) in symptomatic patients referred for quantitative coronary angiography (QAC).
METHODSFifty five patients (43 males) with chest pain after coronary stent implantation within 6 - 12 months were evaluated by DSCT-CA and QAC. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of DSCT-CA were calculated using coronary angiography as gold standard.
RESULTSEighty nine stents were implanted. In-stent restenosis was evidenced in 28 stents (31.5%) by QAC. The sensitivity, specificity PPV and NPV of DSCT-CA for the diagnosis of in-stent restenosis was 89%, 87%, 76% and 95%, respectively. Diagnostic efficiency was not affected by heart rate and the sensitivity was 0.94 vs. 0.82, the specificity 0.88 vs. 0.90, the PPV 0.76 vs. 0.75 and the NPV 0.97 vs. 0.93 (all P > 0.05) between patients with heart rate < 70 beats/min and patients with heart rate ≥ 70 beats/min. The sensitivity (84% vs. 100%), specificity (81% vs. 96%), PPV (70% vs. 90%) and NPV (91% vs. 100%) were similar between overlapping or bifurcations stents and single stents. The specificity (100% vs. 80% vs. 66%) and PPV (100% vs. 95% vs. 53%) were significantly higher in the groups with stents ≥ 3.50 mm, stents 3.00 mm than in stents ≤ 2.75 mm (both P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONDiagnostic efficiency of in-stent restenosis with DSCT-CA in the large diameter stent is better than in the small diameter stent and the diagnosis efficacy is not affected by heart rate and stent distribution.
