Objective To investigate the effects of epalrestat on oxidative and carbonyl stress in streptozocin-induced diabetic rat kidneys, and to also explore their reno -protecting mechanisms in diabetic rats. Methods Rats were randomly divided into three sub-groups:normal control (group A),diabetic con-trol (group B) and diabetic with epalrestat (group C). Blood glucose, blood lipid, HbA1C, kidney to body weight ratio and urinary protein excretion were measured after 12 weeks.Malonyldialdehyde (MDA) level, superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity, total sulfhydryl group and protein carbonyl levels in renal tissue were also determined .Results Compared to group A , kidney to body weight ratio , urinary protein excretion , MDA, and protein carbonyl levels in group B were significantly higher , while SOD and GSH-Px activities and total sulfhydryl group level were significantly lower than those in group A.Kidney to body weight ratio , urinary protein excretion , MDA, and protein carbonyl level in group C were significantly lower than those in group B .SOD and GSH-Px activity in group C were higher than those in group B .Conclusion Epalrestat can prevent renal hypertrophy and decrease urinary protein excretion in diabetic rats .The renoprotective effects of this drug may be related to his ability to inhibit oxi-dative and carbonyl stress .

4."English translation of traditional Chinese medicine term ""Bi"": from the perspective of skopos theory"
International Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2013;(7):619-622
Objective This study was to explore a justifiable approach for the translation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) terms in the light of Skopos Theory and thus to provide references to the standardization of TCM terms. Methods By exploring the source and development of a TCM term Bi,we studied its connotation, compared available English versions and decided on the choice version. Results The word arthralgia, obstruction or impediment was found to be the most frequently used word in 12 recognized publications, more frequent than the transliteration of Bi.Conclusion It is suggested that an accurate and a complete understanding of TCM terms and English expressions are required prior to translating so that the faithfulness and accuracy of the translation are maintained for the sake of optimal approximation.

Journal of China Medical University 2010;(6):447-451
Objective To explore the effects of estrogen and angiotensin Ⅱ receptor 1 inhibitor(saralasin)on cell proliferation, cell cycle and apoptosis in endometrial carcinoma cell line HEC-1A.Methods Immunocytochemical assay was applied to detect the expression of AT1-R,PI3K,p-Akt and ERK protein in HEC-1A cell. The effects of estrogen and saralasin on cell proliferation, cell cycle distribution and apoptosis of HEC-1A cell were detected by MTT assay and fluorescence activated cell sorting technique. The expression of ERK and p-Akt protein in HEC-1A cell treated with estrogen and saralasin were analyzed by Western blot. Results The expression of AT1-R,PI3K,pAkt,and ERK protein was found in HEC-1A cell.Estrogen stimulated the proliferation of HEC-1A cell, decreased G0~G1 phase proportion and increased S phase proportion significantly, minimized the number of apoptotic cells, and up-regulated the expression of ERK protein.Saralasin obviously inhibited the proliferation and induced apoptosis of estrogen induced HEC-1A cell, increased G0~G1 phase proportion and decreased S phase proportion, and down-regulated the expression of ERK protein. Conclusion Estrogen could promote the proliferation of HEC-1A cell through AT1-R.AT1-R inhibitor saralasin could inhibit the proliferation and induce the apoptosis of estrogen induced HEC-1A cell. The down-regulation of ERK protein expression by interrupting the mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling pathway might be involved in the possible mechanism. Thus saralasin could be a valid approach to treat ER-negative endometrial carcinoma.

AIM:To establish a specific method for the identification of 26 chemical drugs added illegally into analgesic-antipyretic traditional Chinese medicines and health food. METHODS: The liquid chromatography-ion trap mass spectrometry method was used.Comparing with retention time and spectrums of references in library set up by ourselves, the target compounds in sample were screened and identified. RESULTS: Sixty samples were tested and Naproxen,Ibuprofen and Aspirin were detected out. CONCLUSION: The method is accurate, sensitive and easy to operate, which is first reported in China and so many compounds could be detected at the same time.

AIM:To study the chemical constituents of leaves of Streblus asper Lour. METHODS:The constituents were isolated by column chromatography and their structures were elucidated through spectroscopic analysis. RESULTS:Seven compounds were isolated and identified as salicylic acid(1),?-sitosterol ( 2 ),?-daucosterol(3),oleanolic acid(4),magnolol(5),quercetin(6),taxifolin(7). CONCLUSION:The compounds are all obtained from the leaves of Streblus asper for the first time.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2016;34(5):456-459
Background Intermittent exotropia is a type of strabismus that between latent extropia and manifest extropia. The assessment of fusional convergence/divergence is important for understanding control ability of exodeviation in children with intermittent exotropia. Objective This study was to analyze the correlations between fusional convergence/divergence and control ability of exodeviation in children with intermittent exotropia. Methods Sixty-three children with intermittent exotropia were recruited in Beijing Tongren Eye Centre from July 2013 to February 2014 under the informed consent of children and their parents.Angle of deviation was measured by wearing prism and covering method alternately. The control ability of exodeviation was evaluated and scored by the Revised Newcastle Control Score (RNCS),and fusional convergence and divergence were measured with 1 Δ-40Δ horizonal prisms and regulating targets. The correlations between the measured parameters of fusional convergence/divergence and control scores of exotropia were analyzed by Spearman rank correlation analysis. Results The mean diopter of the right and left eyes was (-1.95 ± 1.63)D and (-2.01 ± 1.73)D,respectively,and the mean deviation angle for distantly and near was (36.67 ± 15.69) Δ and (38.25 ± 14.83) Δ,respectively, without significant differences between them (diopter:t =-0.13,P>0.05;deviation angle:t =-0.57,P>0.05).Considerably negative correlations were found between the breakpoints of fusional convergence for distant or near and control scores of exodeviation (rs =-0.41,P=0.03;rs =-0.56,P<0.01).No significant correlations were found between the breakpoints of fusional divergence for distantly or near and control scores of exodeviation (rs =0.05,P =0.78;rs =0.04,P <0.75).In addtion, there was no significant correlation between fusional recovery level and control scores (both at P > 0.05).Conclusions Breakpoints of fusional convergence may be useful in grading the severity of intermittent exotropia in children, and it is probably one of the surgical indications of intermittent exotropia.
