1.Occupational Stress of Women Workers in Service Industries depending on Their Working Conditions.
Korean Journal of Occupational Health Nursing 2014;23(2):89-96
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to discover the influence of the working conditions on women workers' occupational stress. METHODS: Descriptive method is used to identify women's stress depending on their general working features and conditions by conducting a survey of them in women-dominated service industries. SPSS 18.0 program is used for data analysis and descriptive statistics is presented with standard deviation, frequency and percentage. chi2-test is used as an analysis tool. To figure out factors that influence their stress, logistic regression analysis is used for general features and working conditions as independent variables, and occupational stress as a dependent variable. RESULTS: As a result, among the independent variables, employment status, weekly working hours, career, shiftwork, and work-family-balance are meaningful factors that influence their stress. Temporary workers' stress is 3.65 times higher (p<.001), and workers working over 48 hours a week have 1.97 times higher stress (p<.003). Workers with over 5 years' career are under 1.73 times higher stress (p<.046) and shift workers are under 3.51 times higher stress (p<.001). Work family balance results in 1.93 times higher stress (p<.009). CONCLUSION: It is necessary to seek how to prevent and manage women workers' stress considering features.

Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2001;13(1):159-170
The purpose of this pilot study was to identify the effects of hand moxibustion therapy to decrease pain and relieve coldness of the body in women who had a hysterectomy. The conceptual framework of this study was derived from Ying-Yang, Khi and other corresponding theories. The data were collected from February to May 1997. A Graphic Rating scale was used to measure the degree of pain and Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging(D.I.T.I) was used to examine the degree of coldness. The subjects were women who resided in Seoul and had a hysterectomy within five years. An experimental group was composed of five women who received moxibustion and a control group was composed of five who did not. The research procedure began with having both the experimental group and control group describe their general characteristics and the degree of pain they perceived. Then, Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging(D.I.T.I) was conducted. Moxibustion was only given to the experimental group on both hands twice every day for a total of five weeks. Their perception of pain and D.I.T.I were examined weekly. The control group received no therapy. After finishing therapy, the perception of pain and D.I.T.I for both groups were also measured. According to this study, moxibustion therapy resulted in a change of body temperature on the right shoulder joint(p=0.00074), abdomen(p= 0.0047), waist(p=0.0068) and hands(p=0.0317) respectively. Also, the study results showed significant decrease (p=0.0001) in pain over time and significant improvement over body coldness.

Journal of Korean Society of Pediatric Endocrinology 2008;13(1):110-116
A 16-month-old boy had signs of virilization such as penile enlargement and pubic hair since 13 months of age. Hormone evaluation indicated increased levels of 17-OH-progesterone, dehydroepiandrosterone- sulfate (DHEA-S) and testosterone. Initially he was diagnosed as simple virilizing type of congenital adrenal hyperplasia and hydrocortisone was given to him. After 2 months, his penile enlargement continued and we did not find gene mutation for 21-hydroxylase deficiency. Adrenal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 3.5x2.7x4.4 cm size of adrenal mass consistent with an adrenocortical tumor. The patient underwent surgical excision of the well-encapsulated tumor with normalization of his hormone levels. Childhood adrenocortical tumors are rare and are not well characterized. Surgery is the definitive treatment for adrenocortical tumors and prognosis is often poor. We report a case of adrenocortical tumor in a 16-month-old boy presenting with virilization with review of literature.

Korean Journal of Pediatrics 2008;51(7):742-746
PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects and adverse side-effects of growth hormone (GH) therapy in children with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). METHODS: Forty-one patients who had been treated with GH for more than two years (24 boys and 17 girls, mean age 7.3+/-3.3 years during treatment initiation) were enrolled for this study. RESULTS: After 2 years of GH therapy, the height and weight standard deviation scores (SDS) increased significantly (- 1.19+/-1.37 vs. - 0.02+/-1.45, and 1.02+/-2.42 vs. 1.63+/-2.22, P<0.002); however the percentage body fat decreased (44.6+/-9.9% vs. 38.1+/-10.5%, P<0.001). Further, no change was observed in the thyroid and serum glucose levels, but the total cholesterol level decreased. GH therapy did not impact glucose control in the patients with diabetes. The most common adverse effects of GH therapy were the progression of scoliosis and adenoid hypertrophy. CONCLUSION: GH therapy improved the height SDS and body composition in patients with PWS. However, GH should be used with caution in patients with scoliosis and adenoid hypertrophy.

Korean Journal of Pediatrics 2009;52(4):453-457
PURPOSE: Our aim was to describe the clinical features of noroviral gastroenteritis in children. METHODS: This study included 22 children with noroviral gastroenteritis, as confirmed by stool RT-PCR, who were admitted to Bundang CHA Hospital between July 2006 and June 2008. Their medical records were reviewed and compared with those of 45 children with rotaviral gastroenteritis. RESULTS: In the norovirus group, 19 (86.4%) children showed vomiting and 21 (95.5%) children showed diarrhea, while all children in the rotaviral group showed both vomiting and diarrhea. The duration of vomiting was not different in the two groups, but mean episodes of vomiting/24 h were higher in the norovirus group than in the rotavirus group. The duration of diarrhea was longer and mean episodes of diarrhea/24 h were higher in the rotavirus group. The Vesikari Scale was not different in the two groups. Frequency and duration of fever did not show a significant difference. Most children in both groups were below 2 years of age. CONCLUSION: Clinical features of noroviral gastroenteritis were largely similar to those of rotaviral gastroenteritis, but vomiting was more severe in noroviral infection, and diarrhea was more severe and prolonged in rotaviral infection. With regard to noroviral infection, further epidemiologic investigations and preventive efforts are essential.

Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 2013;56(12):781-783
Arachnoid cyst develops due to cerebrospinal fluid increase in the subarachnoid space and is mostly located in the middle cranial fossa, which may be associated with non-specific symptoms such as headache, unsteadiness and ataxia. However, it rarely occurs in the posterior cranial fossa and is mostly asymptomatic. When symptoms do develop, they are usually headache and psychomotor retardation, which make diagnosis very difficult. Diagnosis is generally made through magnetic resonance imaging and surgical treatment is indicated for cases where there are displacement and compression of its surrounding neurovascular component, and aggravation of symptoms. We present a case of unilateral sudden hearing loss possibly developing from an arachnoid cyst in the posterior cranial fossa with a review of literatures.

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) can now be eradicated in the majority of patients with 7 days of treatment with OAC (omeprazole+amoxicillin+clarithromycin) regimen. It is unclear if additional acid-suppressing treatment should be continued beyond 7 days in patients with active gastric or duodenal ulcers. METHODS: Ninety two patients with endoscopically proven active peptic ulcers who were H. pylori positive were randomized to receive either omeprazole 20 mg plus amoxicillin 1.0g plus clarithromycin 500mg ; twice daily for 1 week alone (OAC group) or same regimen followed by 3 weeks of omeprazole (OACP group). Endoscopy and UBT (urea breath test) were performed 8 weeks after the initiation of treatment. RESULTS: Forty four of forty five (97.8%) of OAC group and forty four of forty seven (93.6%) of OACP group were noted to have healed ulcer at week 8. CONCLUSION: In patients with H. pylori infection and peptic ulcers, one week of OAC therapy without further need for PPI may heal the ulcers. Following an l week course of H. pylori eradication therapy by OAC for peptic ulcers, further 3 weeks of acid-suppressing therapy with PPI was not proven to promote ulcer healing rate.
