2.Changes in the endocrine system with aging
Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism 2014;30(9):809-812
The endocrine system with the normal aging is characterized by a progressive loss of reserve capacity, resulting in a decreased ability to adapt to environmental demands. This loss of homeostatic regulation reflects important alterations in hormonal synthesis, metabolism, and action. However, these changes may have no significant clinical manifestations, especially under non-stress conditions. This review discusses the endocrine system in the elderly in general.

●METHODS: Totally 195 patients with severe bacterial keratitis and conjunctivitis were included in this study. Based on the sequence of enrollment, they were randomly divided into three groups: group A ( 65 patients) received levofloxacin, group B ( 65 patients) received suture method under microscope, group C received suture method with loupe besides the same basic operative treatment in the two groups. The curative effect and drug tolerance were observed and compared statistically.
●RESULTS: ln group A, 54 cases were cured, in the rate of 83. 1%, 7 cases ( 10. 8%) were excellent, 3 cases (4. 6%) were valid, 1 case (1. 5%) was invalid. ln group B, 25 cases (38. 5%) were cured, 6 cases (9. 2%) were excellent, 23 cases (35. 4%) were valid, 11 cases (16. 9%) were invalid. ln group C, 4 cases (6. 2%) were cured, 3 cases (4. 6%) were excellent, 36 cases (55. 4%) were valid, 22 cases (33. 8%) were invalid. The curative effect and drug tolerance among groups had obvious differences (P<0. 05).
●CONCLUSlON: Levofloxaoin is effective and safe for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis and keratitis, which is not resistant and worthy of promotion.
5.Childhood obesity and sleep related gene polymorphisms
Journal of Clinical Pediatrics 2013;(11):1095-1097
Obesity and sleep disorders are both familial clustering. Childhood obesity can cause sleep disordered breathing and sleep deprivation. The expression of energy metabolism related genes can also be inlfuenced by obesity, which may lead to overweight or obesity, even metabolic syndrome. In this review, the recent progress on obesity related gene polymorphism and its relationship to childhood sleep disorders is summerized.
6.REGENERATION OF GANGLION CELL AXONS AFTER PERIPHERAL NERVE TRANSPLANTATION INTO THE RETINA OF ADULT GOLDEN HAMSTERS

Acta Anatomica Sinica 1954;0(02):-
After autologous transplantation of sciatic nerve segments into the retinae of adult golden hamsters for 1-4 months, anterograde and retrograde labelling with horseradish peroxidase demonstrated that ganglion cell axons have regrown into the peripheral nerve graft for a distance up to 2 cm. The regenerating axons into the grafts were distributed within fan-or beltshaped areas between the sites of grafting and the limbus of the retina, their numbers being greater for grafts near the optic disc than for those in the outer portions of the retina. Histogram of cell soma areas of labelled neurons from retinae with grafts indicated that all normal cell sizes were represented and there was a substantial population of enlarged neurons. Retrograde labelling with fluorescent dyes, Nuclear Yellow, applied to the optic tract and True Blue to the graft, demonstrated that the regenerating axons originated from axotomized ganglion cells rather than by axonal collateral sprouting of undamaged neurons.
7.REGENERATION OF VISUAL CORTEX NEURONS IN ADULT GOLDEN HAMSTERS
Yuemei XIAO ; Guohui SU ;
Acta Anatomica Sinica 1955;0(03):-
A segment of autologous sciatic nerve was transplanted into the 17/18a borderoregion or near the midline of the occipital brain in the adult golden hamsters.After42-131 days survival time,HRP (50% in saline) was administered to the cut endof the graft. It was found that the neurons of different sizes and shapes in visualcortex can be induced to regenerate their fibers into the peripheral nerve graft forup to 10mm;Some of the regenerated cells became larger than that of the normal cells.in the visual cortex, which is similar to that in the retina, but the ability of regenera-tion of the cortical neurons is much lower than that of the retinal ganglion cells.Fluorescent dye double-labelling method was used and it was demonstrated thatthe callosal neurons in visual cortex can regenerate their fibers into peripheral nervegraft, the regenerative fibers originated from axotomized neurons rather than fromcollateral sprouting of undamaged neurons.Predegeneration treatment for the sciaticnerve did not enhance the regeneration of neurons in the visual cortex.Extradamagemade near the graft insertion does not seem to increase the quantity of regenerationcells in the visual cortex. The results of the experiment suggest that peripheral nerve graft can induceregeneration of neurons in visual cortex and the local environment is one of theimportant factors affecting the ability of regeneration of mammalian CNS.
8.Advance in studies on effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma in relieving purgative activity of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma.
China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2015;40(4):577-581
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, as a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely applied in clinic. Its major purgative constituent is anthraquinones, which are believed to be a toxic ingredient. Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma has been reputed as the best alexipharmic to moderate medicine natures. In this paper, the effect of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma in relieving purgative activity of Rhei Radix et Rhizoma was studied in two aspects--the boiling process and intestinal metabolism; Studies on combined administration of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Rhei Radix et Rhizoma in recent years were summarized according to chemical constituent, intestinal flora, I/II phase metabolism and drug transport. However, the material basis and mechanism for their compatibility remain unclear, further studies will be made in the future.

9. Low concentration of MNK1 inhibitor CGP57380 inhibits the proliferation of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells and induces their apoptosis
Tumor 2013;33(10):873-878
Objective: To observe the effects of low concentration of CGP57380, an inhibitor of mitogen-activated protein kinase-interacting kinase 1 (MNK1) on the proliferation and apoptosis of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells. Methods: A549 cells were treated with low concentrations (1-4 μmol/L) CGP57380 for 24-72 hours, then the cell proliferation was assessed by MTT assay, and the apoptosis and cell cycle distribution were detected by flow cytometry. The expression levels of phosphorylated MNK1 (p-MNK1) and phosphorylated human eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (p-eIF4E) proteins in A549 cells treated with 1 μmol/L CGP57380 for 48 hours were examined by Western blotting. Results: Comparing to the control, the proliferation of A549 cells was inhibited after treatment with different concentrations of CGP57380 for 48 hours (all P < 0.05). A549 cells treated with 2-4 μmol/L CGP57380 for 72 hours were induced G2/M cell cycle arrest (both P < 0.05). CGP57380 at different concentrations could induce dose-dependent apoptosis in A549 cells. The expression levels of p-MNK1 and p-eIF4E were significantly lower in A549 cells treated with 1 μmol/L CGP57380 than those in the control (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Low concentration of CGP57380 can inhibit the proliferation of human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells and induce their apoptosis, implying that MNK1 gene may be a candidate target for the treatment of lung cancer.
