Background:
Telemetry is a wireless implanted device that measures biological signals in conscious animals and usually requires surgery for its removal when the study is finished. After removing the device, the animals are either used for other studies or euthanatized.Case presentation: Herein, we report the case of a living cynomolgus monkey (Macaca fascicularis) that was used for the entire experimental period, instead of euthanasia, after surgical removal of an implanted telemetry system.Radiography was used to determine the status of the implanted telemetry, following which, a repair surgery was performed for removing the system; clinical signs were used to preserve the life of the cynomolgus monkey. Postoperative clinical signs, food consumption, hematology, and serum biochemistry were examined during the 12-month observational period. No abnormal readings or conditions were observed in the subject after implant removal.
Conclusions
This study may be a useful case report for living cynomolgus monkeys in telemetry implantations used throughout the study period. We suggest minimizing the suffering and improving the welfare of these animals.

Kidney Research and Clinical Practice 2012;31(3):157-162
BACKGROUND: Currently, the dosage of tacrolimus used after transplantation is based on the patient's body weight. However, there is a low correlation between body weight and body composition in kidney transplant recipients. In this study, we evaluate the pharmacokinetics of tacrolimus according to body composition in 18 Korean kidney transplant recipients with stable graft function. METHODS: Body composition parameters were calculated using bioelectrical impedance analysis. Pharmacokinetic profiles were determined 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours after treatment with tacrolimus and were compared between high- and low-level median body composition groups. The values of C0, C1, C2, C3, and C4 were used in determining an abbreviated area under the curve (AUC) for tacrolimus. RESULTS: The mean body mass index (BMI) and body composition values were as follows: BMI, 24.3 kg/m2; lean mass, 49.8 kg; and fat mass, 17.4 kg. There were no statistical differences in pharmacokinetic profiles between groups with different BMIs. However, the C0 and C4 in the high-fat group were significantly elevated compared with those of the low-fat group (P=0.024 and 0.031, respectively). Furthermore, the C0, C2, C3, and C4 and the AUC were significantly different between the two lean mass groups (P=0.007, 0.038, 0.047, 0.015, and 0.015, respectively). Other variables, such as waist circumference and arm muscle circumference, did not differentiate between the pharmacokinetic profiles of tacrolimus. CONCLUSION: Taken together, these data suggest that tacrolimus dose monitoring based on body composition may provide adequate dosage leading to favorable long-term outcomes.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1996;37(5):805-812
Recently, various types of perfluorocarbon liquids are used to treat the retinal detachment due to giant tear. The authors treated 3 cases of giant retinal tear with perfluorodecalin and silicone oil. After pars plana vitrectomy, posterior retinal flap was unfolded by injection of perfluorodecalin and exchanged it for silicone oil subsequently. Silicone oil was removed after 4 weeks. Endophotocoagulation and scleral buckling were taken in all cases, and lensectomy for normal lens in 1 case. After the close observation for 6 months or more, retina was reattached successfully in 2 of 3 cases. Because of proliferative vitreoretinopathy, reinjection of silicone oil was needed in 1 case. Perfluorodecalin and silicone oil were useful materials to reattach the folded retinal flap of giant retinal tear.

Objective To investigate the feasibility of a novel molecular probe 99Tcm-3P4-RGD2 in evaluating arterial plaque stability after atorvastatin intervention in rabbits with SPECT/CT. Methods Eighteen male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into group A (stable plaque), group B (vulnerable plaque), and group C (vulnerable plaque with statin intervention). All rabbits were fed with high-fat food for 12 weeks. After high-fat feeding for two weeks, sham surgery was performed on group A. In the meantime, abdominal aorta injury was performed on group B and group C. After that, rabbits of group C were given oral atorvastatin (2.5 mg·kg-1·d-1). 99Tcm-3P4-RGD2 SPECT/CT imaging was performed on each group at the end of 4, 8 and 12 weeks. T/NT ratios were calculated. Animals were sacrificed at the end of 12 week after imaging studies. The abdominal aortas were collected, imaged with SPECT/CT, and evaluated by pathological HE staining and immunohistochemical analysis. MVD was calculated. Differences among 3 groups were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance. Results There was no significant radioactive uptake in the abdominal aortas of three groups on the 4th week′s imaging. The radioactive uptake in abdominal aortas increased slightly on the 8th week, with the highest radioactive uptake in group B. The radioactivity in abdominal aortas of the 3 groups maintained increasing on the 12th week, with T/NT ratios of 1.579±0.217, 1.873±0.226 and 1.524±0.237, respectively (F=8.984, P<0.05). In ex vivo abdominal aorta images, especially images of group B, radioactivity in lesion sites was higher than that in normal tissue. Accordingly, results of HE staining showed that artery plaques of group A and group C were grade Ⅱ and group B was grade Ⅳ. The MVD of group A, B and C was 8.17±1.17, 15.86±1.07 and 7.17±1.60, respectively (F=9036, P<0.05). Conclusion 99Tcm-3P4-RGD2 SPECT/CT imaging has a high sensitivity in the evaluation of arterial plaque stability after statin intervention in rabbits.

Objective:To summarize the clinical manifestations and color Doppler ultrasonography of benign lymphoepithelial disease (BLL) in lacrimal gland, so as to improve the diagnostic accuracy of lacrimal BLL.Methods:Clinical manifestations and color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) features of lacrimal BLL in 16 patients (2 males and 14 females, with 31 lesions) who visited the Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University from November 2014 to August 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Results:The performance for lesions in patients with duration less than 3 months was scattered in irregular low echo, lesion blood flow signals within the rich (Adler Ⅱ level), pathologic examination results showed more lymphocytes were seen in the lacrimal matrix, and the myoepithelium of the lacrimal duct grew to form the epithelium-myocutaneous island. The ultrasonic feasures in patients with course of 3-6 months were in multiple categories such as circular low echo, "honeycomb" change, CDFI showed lesions with a lot of blood flow signals (Adler Ⅲ level), the pathological examination results indicated that there were a large number of lymphocytes and epithelial-musculocutaneous islands in the lacrimal matrix, and the lymphocytes were significantly increased compared with patients with the course of disease less than 3 months. The ultrasound results in patients with a course of more than 6 months showed lesions in multiple categories such as circular low echo, and large low echo, greater than 3 mm in diameter, CDFI showed lesions within the same large amounts of blood flow signals (Adler Ⅲ level), the pathological examination results were consistent with the course of 3 to 6 months. One patient had positive tuberculin test and 11 had higher IgG4 than normal. The number of lymphocytes increased with the prolongation of disease course. Conclusions:With the expert knowledge of color Doppler ultrasonographic characteristics of lacrimal gland BLL and with the serum IgG4 level helps to improve the accuracy of ultrasonic diagnosis.
