The purpose of this study was to compare the corrosion characteristics between implant fixture and two types of abutment screw; gold screw, titanium screw. The anodic polarization behavior, the galvanic corrosion behavior, and the crevice corrosion behavior of prepared samples were investigated using potentiostat and scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : 1. Anodic polarization behavior of samples: The primary passivation potential of implant fixture was -420mV, implant abutment was -560mV, titanium screw was -370mV and gold screw was -230mV. All samples were shown to have a high corrosion potential and good formation of passive film. The critical passive current density of gold screw was higher than of other samples and the sample of gold screw showed a unstable passive film formation at passive region. 2. Galvanic corrosion behavior of samples: Contact current density between implant fixture and titanium screw showed 8.023x 10-5C/cm2. Contact current density between implant fixture and gold screw showed 5.142x 10-5C/cm2. 3. Crevice corrosion behavior of samples : The crevice corrosion resistance of sample using titanium screw was higher than that of sample using gold screw, and a severe corrosion morphologies were observed at the fixture-screw interface by the scanning electron microscope.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the distribution and resistance of fungi isolated from hemopathy patients, and to provide the laboratorial data in order to prevent and treat infection caused by fungi more effectively.METHODS Strains were isolated from the upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract, genitourinary tract, alimentary tract;and perianal region, perineum, and the soft tissue and skin wounds.Antimicrobial susceptibility of clinical isolates was tested by broth microdilution susceptibility test.RESULTS Candida albicans,Aspergillus, tropicalis,C.krusei, and C.glabrata were the main fungi of total 3104 detected isolates. The resistance rates of C.albicans and C.tropicalis to fluconazole, itraconazole and 5-flucytosine were no more than 1.4%.The MIC50-MIC90 range of C.tropicalis for itraconazole was narrow(0.25-0.5 mg/L),but that was wide for fluconazole(0.25-4.0 mg/L).CONCLUSIONS C.albicans,Aspergillus,C.tropicalis,C.krusei,and C.glabrata are possibly the most common pathogens causing endogenous and exogenous fungi infection. The main infection sites of Aspergillus are the upper respiratory tract and lower respiratory tract, which may be associated possibly with ward's air quality. The MIC50to MIC90 range of C.tropicalis is wider for fluconazole than for itraconazole, which is possibly correlated with overexpression of CtMDR1 in C.tropicalis caused by the widely application of fluconazole in therapy.

Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 2009;21(4):423-434
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate successful aging (SA) in elderly individuals and to determine the factors that influence SA. METHODS: The subjects included 207 elderly individuals from D city, Korea. The data were obtained between July 1 and August 30, 2008. The participants were assured of anonymity and confidentiality. For the evaluation, Kim & Shin's SA scale, Lawton's instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) scale, Jon's self-esteem scale, Kee's geriatric depression scale short form-Korean (GDSSF-K), and Hong's productive activities scale were used. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation coefficients; multiple regression analysis was performed using the SPSS/WIN 10.0 program. RESULTS: The maximum score for SA was 34, and the mean score was 22.62. It was found that SA was significantly correlated to IADL, self-esteem, depression, and productive activity. Depression was the most powerful predictor of SA and it accounted for 40.6% of the total variance in SA. Self-esteem, productive activity, living situation, economic status, and age together accounted for 62.1% of the total variation in SA. CONCLUSION: Depression, self-esteem, and productive activity were identified as variables that influence SA. On the basis of these results, we conclude that nurses should assist elderly individuals in order to facilitate SA. Moreover, individualized nursing management strategies must be developed in order to facilitate SA.

5.Atypical Presentation of Acute Pituitary Apoplex Following Mild Head Injury.
Korean Journal of Neurotrauma 2012;8(1):55-57
Pituitary apoplexy usually presented with abrupt onset of neurological deterioration of headache, visual disturbance and decreased mental status. Post-traumatic pituitary apoplexy generally occurs in patients who have suffered from severe head injury, but there are rare reports occurred in patients with mild head injury. We describe a rare case of atypical presentation of acute pituitary apoplexy following mild head injury. A 68-year-old woman presented with right parietal scalp swelling after minor head trauma. Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score was 14. Initial computed tomography (CT) scans showed multiple contusions in the basal forebrain, falx hemorrhage and a linear skull fracture near the midline. In addition, there was a suprasellar-extended pituitary macroadenoma with suspicious intratumoral hemorrhage. After admission, cloudy consciousness, poor oral intake and high fever continued for several days. On seventh day, her condition has abruptly deteriorated and hypotensive shock developed. She recovered dramatically two days after steroid replacement therapy. The mechanism of pituitary apoplexy after mild head injury discussed with a relevant literature.

This study concerns norm-referenced criteria for isokinetic strength of the lower limbs for the Korean high school baseball players. Two hundred one high school baseball players were participated in this study. They didn't have any medical problem at the lower limbs. Each test was conducted four times in the ankle plantar flexion/dorsiflexion test at 30°/sec speed, knee flexion/ extension test was conducted four times at 60°/sec speed. Humac Norm (CSMI, USA) system was used to obtained the value of peak torque, peak torque % body weight. The results were presented as a norm-referenced criterion value using 5-point scale of cajori, by 5 group (6.06%, 24.17%, 38.30%, 24.17%, and 6.06%) and a few suggestions from this study as follows. The provided criterion of peak torque and peak torque % body weight are very useful information for baseball palyers, baseball coach, athletic trainers and sports injury rehabilitation experts, to utilize as an objective clinical assessment data.

7.Impact of Early Tracheostomy on Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia and Infection of Anterior Cervical Fusion Site in Patients with Acute Cervical Cord Injury.
Korean Journal of Neurotrauma 2012;8(2):59-63
OBJECTIVE: We tried to investigate impact of early tracheostomy on hospital-acquired pneumonia and infection of anterior cervical fusion site in patients with acute cervical cord injury undergoing respiratory difficulty. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was done with 42 subjects received tracheostomy of patients with acute cervical cord injury admitted in our institution from Jan. 2001 to Dec. 2010. The subjects were classified into early tracheostomy group (< or =7 days after endotracheal intubation) and delayed (>7 days). We analyzed the incidence of post-tracheostomy pneumonia, intensive care unit (ICU) stay, hospital stay, in-hospital mortality and tracheostomy or anterior cervical fusion site infections. RESULTS: Early tracheostomy was performed in 13 patients (31.0%) and delayed in 29 (69.0%). The incidence of post-tracheostomy pneumonia was significantly lower in the early tracheostomy group than in the delayed (p=0.018). ICU stay was also significantly lower in the early tracheostomy group than in the delayed (p=0.013). Hospital stay was lower in the early tracheostomy group than in the delayed (p=0.061), but was not statistically significant. In-hospital mortality was not different between two groups. There were no patients with infection of anterior cervical fusion site as a consequence of tracheostomy in both groups. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that early tracheostomy may have beneficial effects in patients with acute cervical cord injury. Tracheostomy was not found to increase the risk of infection in previous anterior cervical surgery.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1997;33(1):172-177
The incidence of conjoined twins is so rare that few anesthesiologists have an opportunity of managing them. Especially in Korea, there are only a few reports describing the anesthetic management for surgical separation of newborn conjoined twins. We experienced the successful anesthetic management for surgical separation of thoraco-xiphopagus conjoined twins without any particular problems. After applying the noninvasive monitors (ECG, pulse oximeter), one of the twins (twinA) with congenital heart disease was administered with intravenous ketamine for induction of anesthesia and intubated without neuromuscular blocker. Anesthesia was maintained with N2O-O2 and hand ventilation using Mapleson D breathing circuit. After maintaining airway of the twinA, the twinB was intubated and maintained with the same manner. Eighteen days after the separation procedure, the twinA with congenital heart disease died and the other one, twinB has been alive with normal growth and development.
