Objective To investigate the possibility that procalcitonin (PCT) can predict the outcome of ventilator weaning in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD). Methods The AECOPD patients caused by bacteria who received mechanical ventilation in intensive care unit (ICU)of the General Hospital of China National Petroleum Corporation in Jilin from January 2010 to March 2014 were retrospectively selected, and their venous blood PCT levels were monitored daily. When they had passed the spontaneous breathing trial(SBT),their breathing machine and trachea cannula were removed. Afterwards they were closely observed for 48 hours and divided into two groups:success and failure groups according to the outcome of the first weaning, and then the analysis of the PCT difference between the two groups was made. Results In the 52 patients enrolled, there were 38 patients in the success group and 14 patients in the failure group. The baseline information as age, sex, acute physiology and chronic health evaluationⅡ(APACHEⅡ)score between the two groups showed no significant difference(all P>0.05). There was no statistical significant difference in PCT level(μg/L) between success and failure groups when they were admitted(5.33±1.35 and 5.37±1.34,respectively). When they were weaning, the PCT levels of both groups had reduced to some extent(1.37±0.39 and 1.74±0.42,respectively), and the success group was lower than that in the failure group(t=2.971,P=0.005). Conclusion PCT level can be used as a predictive index to guide the time for ventilator weaning in patients with AECOPD.

AIM:To observe the effect of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway on diabetic ulcer.METHODS:Diabetic animal model was established in the female Wistar rats by intraperitoneal injection of low-dose streptozotocin fol-lowing high-fat diet feeding.A circular wound was made on the dorsum of the rats in both control group and diabetic group. The condition of wound healing was recorded and the structures of the wound tissues were observed by HE staining in the 2 groups at 3, 7 and 14 d after wounding. The expression ofβ-catenin, GSK-3βand Rspo-3 at mRNA and protein levels in the wound tissues was detected by RT-PCR and ELISA.RESULTS:In diabetic group, the wound healing rate was lower (P<0.05), and the inflammatory cells, fibroblast cells and new capillaries in the wound tissues were fewer than those in control group. The expression of β-catenin and Rspo-3 at mRNA and protein levels in the wound tissues in control group was significantly higher than those in diabetic group, and the expression of GSK-3βwas exactly the opposite (P<0.05). CONCLUSION:The down-regulation of Wnt/β-catenin probably resultes from the decreased level of Rspo-3, which may be one of the reasons for delaying the diabetic ulcer healing.

Bulletin of The Academy of Military Medical Sciences 2001;25(1):31-33,38
Objective:To study the antimalarial mechanism of benflumetol (B). Methods: Flow cytometry (FCM) was used to analyze the effects of B and chloroquine (CQ) on DNA content of Plasmodium berghei and pH value of the lysosome of malarial parasites. Results: DNA content of the plasmodia not treated with any drugs was not changed in 24 hours, while benflumetol could decrease the DNA content: the DNA content began to decrease 2 h after the drug administration and reached the minimum by 16 h, but somewhat increased at 24 h after administration. The pH in the lysosome increased 1 h and restored premedication level 4 h after benflumetol administration. Chloroquine had the same effects on DNA and lysosome pH of malarial parasites. Conclusions: The antimalarial mechanism of benflumetol is directly related to its effect to inhibit the synthesis of DNA.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Osteoking on bone mineral density (BMD) and serum Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) protein levels in rabbits with osteoporotic fracture (OPF).
METHODSTotally 45 female Japanese big-ear rabbits were randomly divided into the treatment group, the model group, and the blank control group (as the control group), 15 in each group. Bilateral ovaries were ectomized for 24 weeks in the treatment group and the model group. Their left radial factures were induced after confirmed osteoporosis. Rabbits in the treatment group were administered with Osteoking by gastrogavage, once per two days. Equal volume of normal saline was given to rabbits in the model group. The general BMD and serum DKK-1 protein levels were detected before ovariectomy, at week 24 and 48 after ovariectomy.
RESULTSThere was significant difference in the general BMD at week 24 after ovariectomy between the model group and the control group, and it was lower in the model group. Compared with the model group, the general BMD significantly increased and serum DKK-1 protein levels significantly decreased in the treatment group after intervention. Serum DKK-1 protein levels were significantly lower after intervention than before intervention in the treatment group.
CONCLUSIONOsteoking could improve the BMD of OPF rabbits, and reduce their serum DKK-1 protein levels as well.

Objective: The expression of WNT5A is associated with aggressive tumor biology and poor clinical outcomes of various types of cancer. However, its function in the cell migration of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) should be elucidated. Methods:The expres-sion of WNT5A in SCLC and normal lung tissues was detected by immunohistochemisty. The correlation between the expression and clinical characteristics of WNT5A was analyzed. The function of WNT5A in regulating cell migration was studied in DMS153 cell line in vitro. Small interfering RNA (SiRNA) was used to knock down WNT5A. Wound healing and Transwell tests were used to determine the migration rate of DMS153. The phosphorylated JNK expression was detected by Western blot analysis. Results:The WNT5A expression was higher in SCLC tissues than that of normal lung tissues. WNT5A was correlated with clinical stages, lymph nodes, and distance me-tastasis in SCLC. The high expression of WNT5A was accompanied by abnormal levels of NSE and Pro-GRP. The WNT5A phosphoryla-tion of JNK promoted cell migration in vitro. Conclusion:The expression of WNT5A in SCLC is high and correlated with tumor metasta-sis. The influence of WNT5A/JNK on the cell migration property of DMS153 supports the concept that WNT5A can initiate the cell mi-gration of SCLC, which suggested that WNT5A may be a marker and can be potentially used as an effective therapeutic target for the SCLC metastasis.
