1.Relationship between Cancer-related Fatigue and Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal Axis (review)
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2017;23(4):406-409
Cancer-related fatigue survivors have been found to have lower morning serum cortisol levels, flattened diurnal cortisol cy-cles, and decreased cortisol responses to psychological stress. The mechanism may be related to the inflammation caused by disorder of hy-pothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, and there are also some evidences to support that cortisol can be used to reduce cancer-related fatigue. This study introduced the research progress of the relationship between cancer-related fatigue and hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis.

Chinese Journal of Digestive Surgery 2017;16(4):359-362
Hepatolithiasis is still a common biliary disease in China with unknown pathogenesis and poor long-term outcomes.Surgery is probably the only curative treatment to hepatolithiasis. However, surgeons and patients cannot keep trouble from high recurrence and reoperation rates after surgery.Hepatolithiasis is a serious disease, which can cause cholangitis, liver abscess, liver cirrhosis, and even cholangiocarcinoma.Sphincter of Oddi, which controls the unidirectional outflow of bile and separates the bile duct from the bacteria-filled intestinal tract,is thought to be a gatekeeper of the almost-sterile biliary tract.Dysfunction of sphincter of Oddi, including stenosis, spasm and laxity,is closely associated with biliary disease,A lax sphincter of Oddi will aggravate bilioenteric reflux, leading to biliary infection and calculi development eventually. This issue has gradually gained enough attention. How to evaluate sphincter of Oddi function reliably and restore or replace its function, which is key to treat hepatolithiasis and prevent its recurrence, remain unclear.

Objective:To compare the effect of four different techniques on removal of vapor lock in the apical region of curved root canals. Methods:Forty simulated resin root canals with 45° curvature were prepared using WaveOne Primary, then the apical foramen were sealed with soft wax.The teeth were divided randomly into 4 groups thereafter (n =10).Contract solution was injected into the canals using a 30 G side-vented needle and scanned with cone-beam CT (CBCT) to identify the volume of the vapor lock.Four different techniques including photon-induced photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) laser-activated irrigation,gutta-percha cone technique, ultrasonic irrigation, and sonic irrigation were used to remove the vapor locks in the root canals. The residual volume of the vapor lock was identified again using CBCT scanning data.Accordingly, the reduction rates of the vapor lock were calculated.Furthermore, the initial and residual vapor lock length was calculated. The data were analyzed by using the One-Way ANOVA analysis and Kruskal-Wallis H test at a significance level of P < 0.05.Results:There was no significant difference in the initial vapor lock volume (P > 0.05).Residual volume of the vapor lock for PIPS laser-activated irrigation was 0 mm3,and that for gutta-percha cone technique was (0.02 ± 0.07) mm3,significantly lower than those of ultrasonic and sonic irrigation, the values being (0.20 ± 0.09)mm3 and (0.23 ±0.06) mm3 (P <0.001),respectively.The reduction rates of the vapor lock of PIPS laser-activated irrigation and gutta-percha cone technique were 100.00% (100.00%,100.00%) and 100.00% (77.66%,100.00%),respectively,significantly higher than those of ultrasonic irrigation [70.37% (56.41%,91.43%)] and sonic irrigation [63.54% (51.47%,74.00%),P <0.001].The length of the residual vapor lock for PIPS laser-activated irrigation was 0 mm,and that for gutta-percha cone technique was (0.15 ±0.47) mm,significantly lower than those of ultrasonic and sonic irrigation, values being (2.21 ±0.09) mm and (2.34 ±0.08) mm (P <0.001),respectively.The length of the residual vapor locks in the ultrasonic and sonic group remained approximately the same as the distance between the working tip and the apical foramen. Conclusion:PIPS laser activated irrigation and gutta-percha cone technique could remove the vapor lock from the apical region of curved canals effectivelv.

Objective To optimize an integration technique for extracting the liposoluble and water-soluble components of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Methods Salvianolic acid B and Tanshinone ⅡA were selected as marker components and determined by HPLC to optimize the integration extract process of Salvia miltiorrhiza by orthogonal test. Results The liposoluble and water-soluble active components of Salvia miltiorrhiza were efficiently extracted by the optimum integration technique. The integration technique for extracting was obtained:Salvia miltiorrhiza was added with 8 times alcohol of 70% and extracted 1 hour for 2 times. Conclusion The liposoluble and water-soluble active components of Salvia miltiorrhiza can be extracted simultaneously by the novel extraction process which was reasonable and feasible. This new technique can be employed to reduce time, working and energy, and be suitable for the morden production.

In order to investigate the effect of Polo-like kinase-1 (Plk1) depletion on cell cycle progression and cell growth in lung cancer cells, a recombinant plasmid containing antisense RNA targeting Plk1 (pcDNA3-Plk1) was transfected into A549 cells by lipofectine. RT-PCR and Western-blot were used to detect the Plk1 gene expression. Cell proliferation was evaluated by direct cell counting and bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) labeling. Cell cycle distribution and apoptosis were examined by flow cytometry, and the inhibition rate (IR) by vinorebline (NVB) was determined by MTT assay. The results showed that after transfection of pcDNA3-Plk1 into A549 cells, the expression levels of Plk1 mRNA and protein were greatly decreased. In pcDNA3-Plk1 transfected groups, abnormal morphological changes of cells and growth inhibition were observed, and the BrdU labeling index was significantly lower than in the control groups (P<0.05). Cells in pcDNA3-Plk1 transfected groups were arresed in G2/M phase and apoptosis was detectable 72 h post transfection. IR induced by vinorebline in pcDNA3-Plk1 transfected groups was significantly higher than in other groups. These data suggested that antisense RNA targeting Plk1 could suppress the Plk1 expression, and therefore, significantly inhibit cell proliferation and induce cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Moreover, it sensitized lung cancer cells to chemotherapy.
