4.Problems and Prospects of Nursing Research on Job Stress in Korea.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2013;19(1):63-75
PURPOSE: The goal of this study was to identify the current status of research on job stress conducted in Korea and to suggest directions for future nursing research. METHODS: A total of 395 articles (76 nursing science, 100 health science, 219 social science) selected from 'Korean Research Foundation Registered Journals' were reviewed. The papers were classified by criteria, focusing on research frameworks, topics and methodologies. RESULTS: There has been a rapid increase in the number of articles since the 1990s. However, the following issues were discovered: lack of theoretical frameworks about factors related to job stress, a paucity of attention to sophisticated methodologies including the development of strong measurement tools, and incoherence among the level of theory, level of measurement, and/or level of statistical analysis. CONCLUSION: Based on the key findings of this study the following are proposed: increased efforts to develop theoretical framework to guide empirical investigations, improvements in methodological rigor, research conduct with various job groups with different approaches such as qualitative or experimental research, and encouragement for interdisciplinary approaches to the study on job stress.

5.Concept Analysis of Stress in Siblings of Patients with Childhood Cancer.
Child Health Nursing Research 2017;23(2):190-198
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to define the concept of stress in siblings of childhood cancer patients. METHODS: The hybrid model was used to perform the concept analysis of stress in childhood cancer patients' siblings. Through reviews of 16 studies in the theoretical phase and interviews with 20 siblings in the field phase, the derived results were brought together in the integration phase. RESULTS: The concept of stress in siblings of patients with childhood cancer was found to have 6 attributes and 28 indicators in 3 domains. Personal factors included 2 attributes (fear about childhood cancer and immature coping skills), and family factors had 2 attributes (changes in relationships with family and changes in family environment), social factors had 2 attributes (changes in relationships with friends and in the school experience, and insufficient social support). CONCLUSION: The stress of siblings of childhood cancer patients was defined as a state of tension associated with personal, family, social factors that can be related to their siblings' childhood cancer. The findings in this study provide the base for the development of a tool for measuring siblings' stress and/or the development of nursing programs for these siblings.

Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education 2018;24(2):160-167
PURPOSE: This study was conducted to identify the influence of clinical practicum-related stress, and awareness, and self-efficacy on strength on health promotion behaviors among nursing students. METHODS: The subjects were 274 students in nursing college who had experience in a clinical nursing practicum. Data were collected from self-reported questionnaires and were analyzed by independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analyses. RESULTS: Multiple regression analyses showed that strength self-efficacy and self-awareness on strength significantly affected overall health promotion behaviors. Regarding subscales of health promotion behaviors, self-awareness on strength significantly affected health responsibility and stress management in health promotion behavior when controlling for sociodemographic characteristics, while the subscales of clinical practicum-related stress did not affect health promotion behavior. CONCLUSION: The recognition of an individual's strength and self-efficacy might be a factor in improving health promotion behaviors among nursing college students, although they suffer from stress during clinical nursing practicum.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2013;43(3):389-398
PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to understand and describe the overcoming experiences of family members caring for elderly patients with dementia at home. METHODS: Data came from autobiographies on the overcoming experiences of caregiving from 31 participants, who had submitted the autobiographies to a public contest held by the Seoul Metropolitan Center for Dementia in 2012. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. RESULTS: Four overcoming stages emerged from the analysis: confronting stage; challenging stage; integrating stage; and transcendental stage, representing transformation of experiences from frustration and suffering to happiness and new hope in life. The confronting stage illustrates severe negative feelings and exhaustion occurring after the diagnosis of dementia. The challenging stage signifies major driving forces in taking good care of their patients. It includes tender loving memories about the patients as well as family and social supports. The integrating stage shows genuine empathy for the patients' situation and the happiness of 'here and now', while the transcendental stage represents new hope in the future. CONCLUSION: Health professionals need to support caregivers to find true meaning of caring and happiness in everyday life, while providing specific information on dementia care and relieving various negative feelings.

10.Lived Experiences of Nursing Home Residents in Korea.
Asian Nursing Research 2013;7(2):83-90
PURPOSE: The goal of the study was to understand the experiences of life among nursing home residents. METHODS: Qualitative study was conducted using Colaizzi's phenomenological method. The participants were 11 people aged 76-96 years in two nursing homes in Korea. RESULTS: Nine themes were identified: giving up on one self, growing apart from familiar relationships, perceiving the monotony of daily life as suffering, feeling anxious about one's future upon observing other residents, being dissatisfied with the lack of consideration for individualized care, developing interpersonal skills for communal life, missing the daily routines of their past lives, feeling optimistic about living in a nursing home, and having a strategy for the remainder of life in the nursing home. CONCLUSION: The results of this study confirmed the positive and negative emotions that elderly people typically experience while in nursing homes. Nurses should educate the families of nursing home residents, so that the family can better respect elderly people's opinions and provide them with adequate support. Furthermore, nurses must not only provide reliable support, resources and serve as advocates, but they must also pay more attention to the environment of the nursing home to make it feel like home to the elderly residents.
