Steatocystoma multiplex is a hamartomatous malformation of the pilosebaceous junction. It is thought to be hereditary or non-hereditary and rarely occurs on the face. We report a case of steatocystoma multiplex located only on the forehead of a 98-year-old woman. Histologic examination revealed a folded cyst wall consisting of several epithelial layers and flattened sebaceous gland lobules close to the cyst wall, which are relatively typical findings of steatocystoma multiplex.

Both eruptive vellus hair cyst and steatocystoma multiplex are uncommon conditions. There are clinical similarities between these two entities, but histological features are distinctive. We describe a patient with multiple subcutaneous nodules on the chest and both axilla, showing combined histological features of both an eruptive vellus hair cyst and steatocystoma multiplex. This case suggests that eruptive vellus hair cyst and steatocystoma multiplex are variants of one disorder which originate in the pilosebaceous duct.

Eruptive vellus hair cyst and steatocystoma multiplex are two clinically similar conditions. Most cases can be differentiated by histological examination. However, in some patients overlapping histological features have been described. We present herein a 23-year-old man with combined eruptive vellus hair cyst and steatocystoma multiplex. Histopathologically, the cyst shows feature of steatocystoma multiplex and eruptive vellus hair cyst simultaneously. This case suggests that eruptive vellus hair cyst and steatocystoma multiplex are within the same spectrum of the disease process.

A 46-year-old man had noticed an asymptomatic, small, yellowish, papular eruption on the scalp about one year ago. Since then, the lesions had slowly increased in size and number. There was no family history of similar lesions. An incision made into the cysts discharged oily yellow material. Biopsy of a lesion disclosed that the cysts had typical features of steatocystoma multiplex histologically. This case was a unique eruptive variety of steatocystoma multiplex on the scalp.

We describe an unusual case of steatocystoma multiplex localized on the forehead. A 16-year-old man was found to have multiple yellowish papules, which had developed on his forehead for 3 years. There was no similar lesions on any part of the body. Histopathological examination revealed an intricately folded cyst wall consisting of several epithelial layers and flattened sebaceous gland lobules close to the cyst wall, which were typical of steatocystoma multiplex. This case represents a facial papular variant, a rare subtype of steatocystoma multiplex.

As a benign adnexal tumor, steatocystoma usually occurs as an autosomal dominant condition known as steatocystoma multiplex. Steatocystoma simplex, the noninherited solitary counterpart of steatocystoma multiplex, was first described by Brownstein in 1982, and is exceedingly rare. We report a case of steatocystoma simplex in a 27-years-old female, who presented with an asymptomatic soft, oval shaped mass on the lower anterior neck. The lesion was completely excised and confirmed as steatocystoma simplex on histopathological examination.
