1.Observation on therapeutic effect of acupuncture at Yanglingquan (GB 34) on sprain of external ankle joint.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2006;26(8):569-570
OBJECTIVETo observe the increasing effect of Yanglingquan (GB 34) on sprain of external ankle joint.
METHODSSeventy-nine cases of sprain of external ankle joint were semi-randomly divided into a treatment group (n = 46) and a control group (n = 33). The treatment group were treated with acupuncture at Yanglingquan (GB 34) and electro-magnetic therapy at local acupoints, and the control group with electro-magnetic therapy.
RESULTSThe cured rate and the total effective rate were 67.4% and 91.3% in the treatment group, and 36.4% and 69.7% in the control group, respectively, with a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01, P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture at Yanglingquan (GB 34) has a better therapeutic effect on sprain of the external ankle joint.

China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 2023;36(8):767-772
OBJECTIVE:
To conduct a preliminary study on joint injuries of anterior and calcaneal fibular ligaments of the lateral ankle joint, and to analyze mechanism of action of shaking and poking in treating ankle joint and biomechanical properties of ankle during the recovery of joint injuries.
METHODS:
CT scan was performed on a male volunteer with right ankle sprain. Mimics 10.0, Solidworks 2016, Hypermesh 12.0 and Abaqus 6.13 software were used to establish 3D nonlinear finite element analysis model of foot and ankle, and the validity of model was verified. Combined with clinical study, the finite element simulation analysis was carried out on the toe flexion, dorsiflexion, varus and valgus of ankle joint under different treatment periods by adjusting elastic modulus of ligament to simulate ligament injury.
RESULTS:
With the treatment of shake and prick and recovery of ligament injury, the maximum stress and area with large stress on tibial pitch and fibular joint surface gradually increased under the four working conditions, and the stress value of the maximum stress ligament gradually increased, and the stress of the anterior and calcaneal fibular ligament dispersed and transferred, and the axial force gradually decreased.
CONCLUSION
The finite element method was used to simulate the mechanical condition of the shaking and stamping technique, and the changes of the forces of the ligament and articular surface before and after treatment of anterior and calcaneal ligament combined injury of ankle talus were intuitively observed. The treatment effect was quantified, and could provid objective and scientific basis for clinical promotion and application of this technique.

Journal of the Korean Society for Vascular Surgery 2006;22(2):128-131
Pseudoaneurysm can occur as the result of penetrating trauma, infection and as the sequelae of radiologic intervention. Acupuncture is widely used in oriental countries such as China, Japan and Korea. In western countries acupuncture therapy is used to treat musculoskeletal symptoms such as sprain or strain. Some complications have been reported after acupuncture therapy. Vascular trauma after orthopedic surgery is relatively rare, but it is a significant complicaiton that increases the morbidity and mortality. We had experienced two different cases of pseudoaneurysms that occurred after acupuncture and orthopedic surgery respectively and the patients were treated successfully with interventional and surgical procedures.

10.Clinical observation on warming-promotion acupuncture for lumbar muscle strain.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2011;31(7):622-624
OBJECTIVETo observe the theraputic effect of warming-promotion acupuncture for lumbar muscle strain.
METHODSSixty-four cases were randomly divided into a warming-promotion acupuncture group(group A) and a routine acupuncture group (group B), 32 cases in each group. The group A was treated with acupuncture at Shenshu (BL 23) and Guanyuanshu (BL 26) with warming-promotion acupuncture method, (Guanyuanshu (BL 26), Yaoyangguan (GV 3), Weizhong (BL 40) with twirling uniform reinforcing-reducing method. The group B was treated with acupuncture at same acupoints only with twirling uniform reinforcing-reducing method. After four-session treatment, the theraputic effect of two groups was compared.
RESULTSThe cured and markedly effective rate of 65.6% (21/32) in the group A, which was superior to that of 40.6% (13/32)in the group B (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe efficiency on lumbar muscle strain treated with warming-promotion acupuncture is superior to that with routine acupuncture, means a suitable manipulation can enhance the therapeutic effect.
