We report a case of solitary congenital calcified nodule of the ear in a 1-year-old female. The lesion was a 2 X 2mm-sized, elevated, slightly erythematous and whitish-centered nodule located since birth on the superior helical rim of her left ear. Histopathological findings fram the totally excised lesion showed calcium deposits as amorphous, basophilic masses in the upper dermis and focal discharge of calcium by means of transepidermal elimination. Surrounding the calcium deposits, lymphohistiocytic infiltrations were present.

Korean Journal of Ophthalmology 2024;38(1):34-41
Purpose:
To investigate the flow characteristics using different thresholding methods on a choriocapillaris optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) image complemented with a structural En Face image.
Methods:
The 42 choriocapillaris OCTA images from healthy subjects were obtained with swept-source OCTA device and the 3 × 3-mm area OCTA images were processed with ImageJ. Using a raw choriocapillaris OCTA image and structural En Face image, we adjusted the different structural signal intensity. Then, the raw images and adjusted images were binarized with a global threshold and an auto local threshold using the Phansalkar method at 1- or 2-intercapillary distance. Then, the mean area, number, and size of the flow void, were compared among the images using different thresholding methods.
Results:
Mean flow void area, number, and size were different according to the different binarization method both in raw and adjusted images (all p < 0.001). The mean flow void area analyzed with global threshold method were well correlated with those with auto local threshold method both in raw and adjusted images (all intraclass correlations, >0.929).
Conclusions
Flow void features varied according to the different binarization methods but showed good correlation. The flow void characteristics according to the different binarization methods should be considered for the analysis of the choriocapillaris OCTA images complemented with a structural En Face image.

BACKGROUND: During and immediately after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty(PTCA), reversible ischemic electrocardiographic change and/of left ventricular dysfunction are developed. But it is not investigated whether there are potential myocardial cell damages following PTCA or not, and the clinical Significance of myocardial cell damage following PTCA. Recently cardiac Troponin-T has been developed as a new myocardial specific marker, especially myocardial damage. The object of this study is to investigate whether potential Myocardial damage following PTCA was occurred and the utility of cardiac Tropoin-T for predicting the complications during and immediately after PTCA. METHODS: The study group comprised 12 patients(M/F;8/4mean age;60 +/- 4year,AMI in 6) undergoing PTCA, Samples for Troponin-T were obtained before, directly after, after 2 hours, 6 hours, and after 12 hours and was determined by enzyme immunoassay on an ES 300 analyzer(Boehringer Mannheim). Discrimination limit for myocardial cell damage is 0.1 ng/ml in normal baseline level but if the baseline level is elevated such as acute myocardial infarction or unstable angina, myocardial cell damage is defined with further increase of cardiac Troponin-T(>0.1 ng/ml) compare to baseline level. RESULTS: 1) The mean duration of total balloon inflation is 10.7 +/- 2(3-22) minutes and the mean duration of single maximal inflation is 3.9 +/- 0.6(1-8) minutes. There are no significant change in concentration of Troponin-T by inflation time. None of the patients showed electroca rdiographic evidence for myocardial infarction. 2) Troponin-T were increased in 2 patients with unstable angina(0.01 vs 0.11 ng/ml) which were developed major dissection including acute closure during PTCA, and 2 patients with acute myocardial infarction(2.37 vs 3.73 ng/ml) which didn't developed dcomplication. The increase of cardiac Troponin-T were observed in 2 of 10 patients with uncomplicated PTCA(20%). 3)The subacute complications were not developed. CONCLUSION: The cardiac Troponin-T were increased significantly in two AMI patients with uncomplicated PTCA(2/10,20%). The increase of cardiac Troponin-T following PTCA is associated with periprocedural complications but the prognostic significance to detect postprocedural complication did not define in this study because there were no subacute complications after PTCA and may be limited value due to time course of complication(usaully within 1 hour after PTCA) and relatively long analytic time.

The Korean Journal of Parasitology 1994;32(4):215-221
The relationship between the intestinal histopathology and number and position of intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) was observed chronologically in the small intestine of rats experimentally infected with Metagonimus yokogawai. Fifteen Sprague-Dawley rats were orally infected each with 3,000 metacecariae, and 3 were kept uninfected for controls. Three rats each were sacrificed on the day 5, 10, 15, 24 and 70 post-infection (PI) and samples of the small intestine, 5 cm, 10 cm, 20 cm and 70 cm posterior to the pylorus were taken. The samples were processed routinely and stained with Giemsa. The intestinal histopathology was severe during the day 5-15 PI and characterized by villous atrophy, crypt hyperplasia, and decrease of villus/crypt height ratio. After the day 24 PI, the intestinal lesions showed some tendency of recovery. The number of IEL increased at the early stage of infection, but decreased thereafter to a lower level than that of controls, with progression of the pathological changes. Then, the IEL number began to increase again after the day 24 PI. In control rats, the great majority of the IEL were located at the basal region of the epithelium. During the early stage of infection, however, a considerable proportion of IEL was found to have moved to the intermediate or apical region of the epithelium. From the above results, it is suggested that the change of IEL number and position during the course of M. yokogawai infection should be closely related to the progression and recovery of the intestinal histopathology.

Annals of Dermatology 1999;11(1):37-40
Eosinophilic panniculitis is characterized by a prominent infiltration of numerous eosinophils in subcutaneous fat, and has been identified in patients with a variety of associated clinical conditions. A case of eosinophilic panniculitis in a 20-year-old woman with a history of atopic dermatitis is reported. She later developed superior sagittal sinus thrombosis, and we stress the importance of systemic evaluations in patients with eosinophilic panniculitis.

7.Health Needs of the Elderly in Long-term Care Facilities: Using RAI-MDS-FC.
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2010;21(2):263-272
PURPOSE: This study was to identify health needs of the elderly at nursing homes by long-term care grade. METHODS: The health needs of 116 elders at two nursing homes in Seoul were measured with resident assessment protocols (RAPs), activities of daily living (ADL), and cognitive performance scale (CPS), and pain and depression were measured by resident assessment instrument (RAI). RESULTS: With regard to RAPs, 11 out of 18 items had different distribution in the 3 groups significantly. The 1st-grade elders had a higher percentage of 9 items than the 2nd- and 3rd-grade ones but the 3rd-grade ones had the highest health needs related with activity. The 2nd-grade elders had similar health needs to the 1st-grade ones. In terms of functional level, the 1st-grade elders had the highest percentage of CPS and ADL but the 3rd-grade ones had the highest score of pain and depression out of the 3 groups. The standardized assessment instrument to identify specific health needs by the 3 groups should be developed. Therefore, care plans to meet health needs of the 3 groups will be made. CONCLUSION: It is suggested that nursing care is required to the elderly of the 1st- and 2nd-grade and safe activity and environment to the 3rd-graded ones.

Souk Young KIM ; Soon Nyung YUN
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2012;23(2):212-221
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to explore violence experienced by workers in the distribution industry. METHODS: The research subjects were 236 workers from 2 department stores and 1 large scale discount store located in Daejeon City, Korea. The collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, chi2-test, and logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: 72.9% of the research subjects experienced verbal violence, and 9.3% of the respondents experienced physical violence during last year. 17.8% of the respondents reported that they had experience of sexual harassment at their workplaces. The variables which affected verbal violence included working departments and stress level, whereas the variable that affected physical violence was educational level of workers. The variables that affected experience of sexual harassment turned out to be gender as well as the duration of work at the current workplaces. CONCLUSION: The findings from this research revealed that many of the workers engaged in the distribution industry were exposed to workplace violence. For the reduction of risk of workplace violence for these workers, it is required to develop and execute programs including violence related policies and education about workplace violence.

10.Outcomes of Repeat Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin C for Previous Failed Trabeculectomy.
Young Sun YUN ; Soon Cheol CHA
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2005;46(2):297-305
PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of repeat trabeculectomy with mitomycin C (MMC) in the management of previous failed trabeculectomy patients. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 44 eyes of 41 glaucoma patients who had been followed up for at least 6 months after repeat trabeculectomy with MMC and analyzed the success rates according to clinical factors, cumulative success rates, risk factors for surgical failure and complications. Surgical success was defined as an intraocular pressure (IOP) of 21 mmHg or less regardless of glaucoma medications and loss of vision. RESULTS: Postoperative success was obtained in 34 (77.3%) out of 44 eyes after a mean follow-up period of 38.7 months. From Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, cumulative success rates after 6, 12, 24, and 36 months were 97.7%, 89.6%, 83.5%, and 80.1%, respectively. Success rates were significantly lower in eyes with preoperative IOP of 30 mmHg or more. Postoperative complications included transient hypotony in 7 eyes, choroidal detachment in 4, hyphema in 4, and cataract progression in 4. CONCLUSIONS: The success rates of repeat trabeculectomy may be lower than of primary trabeculectomy. However, considering the relatively high success rates and low complications of repeat trabeculectomy with MMC compared to the reported results of glaucoma drainage device implantation, repeat trabeculectomy with MMC is an effective and relatively safe surgical option as the secondary surgical procedure for previously failed trabeculectomy patients.
