1. In total 33 cases of cataract, measurements of the corneal curvature(radius) were performed preoperatively and postoperatively. 2. Among 6 cases of below 40 year old, extracapsular cataract extraction were 5 cases. While 23 cases were done in intracapsular extraction among 27 cases of more than 40 year. 3. At two month after the operation, vertical and horizontal curvatures are closer to that of preoperative condition than in 1 month after the operation. 4. 2 month after the operation, vertical curvatures are getting flat in 66 %, while more cases showed tight horizontal curvatures than flat one.

In oder to determine values for the body weight by height groups for Korean adults men who are fully grown up 4028(30-39 age-group:2318, 40-49 age-group: 1340, and 50-59 age-group:370) apparently healthy males subjects were randomly selected for the measurement of body weight by height groups. 1) The average body height and weight of Korean adult men were 168.3+/-4.6cm and 63.4+/-7.1kg in 30-39 age group, 167.7+/-4.7cm and 63.4+/-7.4kg in 40-49 age group, and 167.3+/-5.2cm and 63.3+/-8.0kg in 50-59 age group. 2) A correlation coefficient of r=+0.52(P<0.001) between body height and weight was found in 30-39 ate group of 2318 subject, r=+0.48(P<0.001) in 40-49 of 1340 and r=+0.53(P<0.001) in 50-59 of 370 with the aid of there coefficients of linear regression body weight and height were established for male as follow; for 30-39 age group, Y(weight in kg)=0.81X(height in cm)-73.02, 40-49 age group, Y(weight in kg)=0.74X(height in cm)-61.82, 50-59 age group, Y(weight in kg)=0.82X(height in cm)-73.83. 3) With the aid of above listed various equation standard values for body weight by height group, with over weighing and under weighing values were established. 4) Standard bodyweight of Korean was lower than those of American, Japanese and several other formulas for ideal body weight.

During ideal physiologic occlusion in the intercuspal position, all molars are occluded simultaneously and each occlusal contact evenly transmits similar pressure. The purpose of this study is to analyze the occlusion in the mandibular bone fracture patients treated by open reduction. This patients were selected according to the following criteria: 1) complete dentition without any missing teeth, 2) relatively normal occlusion without original TMJ disorder. Occlusal analysis using T-scan system were performed in 22 patients and 20 normal subjects. Our results were followed: 1. The number of occlusal contacts and the magnitude or occlusal force were increased with time. (p<0.05). 2. In the unilateral mandibular fracture patients, occlusal force and occlusal contacts were increased with time on the both sides. 3. There was significant difference in the number of occlusal contacts and occlusal force between postoperative 1 month and normal group(P<0.05), but there was no significant difference in the number of occlusal contacts and occlusal force between postoperative 6 month and normal group(p>0.05).

In order to understand epidemiologic characteristics of dioxins related health impacts, 107 diox in-related literatures published up to May, 1993 were thoroughly reviewed. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Review studies on dioxins can be classified into two types : one is studies concentrated on one specific subject related to dioxins such as the effects on skin, birth outcomes, metabolic machanisms in the human body, major sources of exposure to the general population, immunotoxicity, association between dioxins and cancers, and research methods on effects of dioxins. The other is review studies dealing with overall aspects of dioxins, among which the report published by Academy of Science of United Stateds of America in 1993 is the most recent one. 2. Judging by consistency of results and biological plausibility, there were three groups of diseases ; diseases having causal relationship, having possibilities of causal relationship, and having no causal relationship for the time being. 1) The diseases showing causal relationship were lung cancer, Hodgkin 'disease, non-Hodgkin 'lymphoma, soft tissue sarcoma, chlordane, and polyneuropathy 2) the diseases showing possibilities of causal relationship were stomach cancer, lymphatic and haematopoietic cancer, multiple myeloma, skin cancer, diseases of digestive system, and CNS deformity among children born to the people exposed. 3) The diseases showing no causal relationship were oral and laryngeat cancer, esophageal cancer, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, brain and CNS cancer, diseases of circulatory and respiratory systems. There were numerous diseases of digestive system, which showed difficulty in establishing definite causal relationship owing to the lack of consistency among researchers. 3. Even though papers dealt with dioxinrelated mortality and morbidity studies showed high mortality rate from accident, biological plausibility explaining causal relationship between them should be sought further. 4. There was a high prevalence of hearing loss among Vietnam veterans, and it seemed rather related to the explosive noise in combat than dioxin itself. 5. The current TCDD levels of Vietnam veterans were almost the same as those of the general population.

To evaluate the neurologic and functional improvement of anterior decompression and fusion in patients with cervical spin injury, the clinical records and x-rays of 17 patients who were treated at Gyeong-Sang National University Hospital between January 1989 and December 1993 were analyzed. The results were as follows 1. There were complete injuries of the cord in six cases, incomplete injuries in nine and nerve root injuries in two. All the patients were treated using anterior decompression and autogenous iliac bone graft with cervical plate fixation within 7 days after trauma. 2. The average time lapse from the operation to radiological union was 9.2 weeks(range;7–14 weeks). 3. The prognosis for neurologic recovery mainly depends on the severity of the initial neurologic status. The recoveries of neurologic deficit were complete in four cases, partial in ten and none in three. The motor index improved from 45.6 to 64.6 and the modified Barthel index was 71.2 points at the last follow-up. 4. The clinical results were excellent in nine cases, good in three, fair in two and poor in three. In conclusion, anterior decompression and fusion with bone graft and cervical plate provided early mobilization and rehabilitation, and improved neurological function in a considerable portion of the patient who had neurologic deficits after cervical spine injuries.

Kupffer cells are tissue macrophages (histiocytes) fixed in hepatie sinusoids. Since malignant hepatocytes are the only tumor parencymal cells of the hepatocellular carcinoma, theoretically there are no Kupffer cells within the hepatocellular carcinoma. To clarify whether it is true or not, 12 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma of the trabecular type with some extents of the non-neoplastic surrounding liver were subjected to immunoperoxidase staining for lysozyme and S-100 protein and the results are as follows. 1) Kupffer cells were stained positively by the immunoperoxidase staining for lysozyme but not for S-100 protein, indicating that they are monocyte derived macrophages. 2) Kupffer cells were also present within the hepatocellular carcinoma, but were 2-7 times fewer within the hepatocellular carcinoma than in the non-neoplastic areas (p<0.05). 3) The non-neoplastic hepatic tissue of patients with serum HBsAg shows a tendency to have more kupffer cells than those without HBsAg.

The Enchondroma is a benign cartilage forming harmartoma arising chiefly from short tubular bones on hands and feet. If on a long tubular bone or flat bone such as femur or ilium, it is most likely to be a true neoplasm such as chondrosarcoma, not a harmartoma. A case of enchondroma was reported. It occurred over right ischium of 19 years old male and was found incidentally by roentgenogram. The lesion was biopsied and diagnos's was confirmed by histologic examination. It was treated by curretage with filling of cavity with bone chips. Post operative-course was uneventful.
