Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2005;16(4):467-477
PURPOSE: This study was to identify adolescents' smoking behavior and the status and need of smoking prevention education for adolescents. METHOD: The subjects were 375 students selected through convenient sampling from three middle schools and three high schools in Jeonbuk. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey and analyzed using SPSS 10.1. RESULT: The smoking rate was 20.8% and 83.7% the students experienced smoking prevention education. Students were educated by a special instructor (39.8%) or a health teacher (26.8%). Among the teaching methods, lecture was 69.4%, but some students (30.7%) wanted anti-smoking school. Among the students, 85.0% answered they want smoking prevention education and 46.7% said that it should be covered in regular curriculum. CONCLUSION: High interest and continuity are emphasized for the success of smoking prevention education. In addition, various teaching methods need to be developed including anti-smoking school, lectures, counselling and long term education program. Moreover, smoking prevention education programs need to be covered in regular curriculum.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2006;36(1):189-196
PURPOSE: The purpose of this research was to test the effects of ST35 & Sulan moxibustion on knee joint pain, range of motion, and discomfort during Activies of Daily Living (ADL) in elderly with knee joint pain. METHOD: A nonequivalent control group pre-post test research design was used. Thirty four elderly who had knee joint pain were studied. Of them, sixteen were in the experimental group and eighteen the control group. The instruments used for this study were NRS, goniometer, and a modified ADL questionnaire developed by Lee. RESULT: The pain scores of right & left knee joint after moxibustion were significantly different between the experimental group and the control group (Right: F=26.27, p=0.000, Left: F=20.77, p=0.000). Right and left knee ROM scores were significantly different between the experimental group and the control group after moxibustion (Right: F=10.74, p=0.003, Left: F=9.239, p=0.005). Discomfort during ADL scores were significantly different between the experimental group and the control group after moxibustion (F= 32.31, p=0.000). CONCLUSION: It is necessary that nurses provide the elderly with knee joint pain with moxibustion to reduce joint pain and to increase knee ROM as an alternative therapy.

Aortic root diameter by two dimensional and M-mode echocardiography in predicting prosthetic aortic valve size preoperatively was measured in 10 adult patients undergoing aortic valve replacement. Correlation of aortic root diameter measured by two dimensional echocardiography and actual prosthetic valve size implanted by aortic valve replacement was excellent. Correlation coefficient was statistically significant (r=0.91, P<0.001). Correlation of aortic root diameter measured by M-mode echocardiography and actual prosthetic valve size was also excellent. Correlation coefficient was statistically significant (r=0.86, P<0.001). This study demonstrates that aortic root diameter by two dimensional and M-mode echocardiography can accurately predict prosthetic aortic valve size in patient undergoing aortic valve replacement.

Korean Journal of Nephrology 2010;29(4):434-440
PURPOSE: Acute kidney injury is a critical complication in patients intensive care unit (ICU) and shows high mortality. After development of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), there were many conflicting data for patient survival. We want to find out which parameter shows strong correlation in the survival of patients undergoing CRRT in intensive care unit. METHODS: Total 85 patients were enrolled who had been treated with CRRT in ICU. We compared the differences in clinical parameters between survivors with non-survivors. RESULTS: Mean age of the patients was 62.0+/-15.6 and 57 patients were male (67.1%). Out of 85 patients, 39 patients survived (45.9%). Mean duration of CRRT was 103.5+/-178.8 hours and mean Acute Physiology And Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) III score was 90.6+/-22.6. There were significant differences between survivors and non-survivors in APACHE III score (p=0.004), time to initiation of CRRT (p=0.05), systolic blood pressure at initiation of CRRT (p=0.001), arterial [H+] (50.18 vs. 84.19, p=0.001), respectively. But there was no difference in the age, sex, the level of pre CRRT blood urea nitrogen, duration of ICU admission, hypoxemia and hemoglobin level. CONCLUSION: Earlier initiation of CRRT and protection from metabolic acidosis were strongly associated with the survival of the patient with acute kidney injury in ICU.
