A total of 16 metatarsal bones were treated for ten with brachymetatarsia using two different methods: single staged lengthening by bone graft(2 cases) and gradual distraction lengthening using unilateral external fixator(14 cases). Three cases of first metatasal bone and thirteen cases of fourth metatarsal bone were operated. All of the cases of the brachymetatarsia were congenital. The average amount of lengthening was 16.1 mm in gradual distraction lengthening while 10.5mm in single staged lengthening. Average percentile increase was 38.8% in gradual distraction lengthening and 23% in single staged lengthening. The average healing index of gradual distraction lengthening was 1.7(months/cm). Although single staged lengthening has advantage of cosmetics, gradual distraction lengthening using unilateral external fixator was thought to be effective functionally for metatarsal lengthening.

Journal of the Korean Geriatrics Society 1998;2(1):42-48
BACKGROUND: Some research viewed that effective dietary therapy was enough to control proper blood glucose level, but in the most patient, dietary therapy was not practiced and the most difficult part of managing their diabetes. The purpose of this research study was to investigate dietary practice adherence and perceived barriers among the elderly diabetes. METHODS: The survey was mailed to 852 persons with diabetes member via diabetic educator of 156 hospitals or clinics and 24 health centers. Questionnaire had background information of patients, meal regularity, food intake as a dietary practice adherence, barriers of 36 items which have 3 areas such as motive/attitude, knowledge, authority/resource. We asked the person with diabetes to rate barrier to dietary practice adherence. 432 questionnaire were returned the response. we selected 69 persons who were over 65 year old. RESULTS: 1) meal regularity was more satisfactory than food intake. 2) deficit of meal regularity were evening snack and resonable spacing between evening meal and evening snack. 3) deficit of food intake was serving of milk. 4) main barrier to dietary practice adherence was that of knowledge. CONCLUSION: For practice effectively dietary therapy to elderly diabetes, individual consultation or small group education must be pursued and more easily educational skills should be required.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1997;38(12):2195-2199
We Performed an epidemiologic survey for strabismus among primary school-children in order to investigate the number of strabismus from March 1995 to February 1996. Cover-uncover test and prism cover test were used. The results were as follows:1. Out of 9054 1st grade primary school-children examined, 322(3.56%) were found as strabismus. 2. 322 cases of strabismus include 262(81.4%)exodeviation and 60(18.6%) esodeviation. 3. Alternating type and monocular type strabismus have no difference both in exotropia and esotrapia. 4. In exotropia and esotropia, no sexual predilection was found. 5. Most portion of deviation angle distribute between 11 to 20 prism diopter. 6. The difference of number of strabismus between big cities and small cities was statistically insignificant(p>0.05).
