Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 2001;8(1):106-110
BACKGROUND: Dopamine receptors have been regarded as a strong candidate involved in etiology of schizophrenia and a target for various antipsychotic drugs. The purpose of our study was to investigate whether dopamine D1 receptor(DRD1) gene polymorphisms would predict the treatment response to antipsychotics in schizophrenia. METHOD: One hundred thirty-four schizophrenic patients, who met DSM-IV criteria for schizophrenia were entered into a 48-week study. The psychopathology of the patients was assessed at baseline, 12th, 24th, 48th weeks of treatment by PANSS. Responders were defined by a 20% of the reduction in total PAnSS score at end point. The genomic DNA fragment corresponding to nucleotides of dopamine D1 receptor gene was amplified by polymerase chain reaction(PCR). RESULT: Neither allelic frequencies nor genotypes for dopamine D1 receptor differed significantly between responders and non-responders. Also, there was no difference of changes of PANSS scores among three genotype groups of the dopamine D1 receptor. CONCLUSION: Allelic variation in the dopamine D1 gene is not associated with individual differences in antipsychotic response.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1992;25(6):1158-1162
In 30 ASA class I patients aged 15-30 undergoing peripheral operations, PaO2 and SaO2 were determined while the mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen was administered at the inspired oxygen concentration of 21%. Anesthesia was maintained with 75% or so nitrous oxide and small dose fentanyl, and ventilation was adjusted to maintain normoventilation with tidal volume increased to 15 ml/kg. PaO2 and SaO2 during anesthesia were increased significantly when compared to those which were measured immediately prior to anesthetic induction, that is to say, no one developed hypoxemia despite administration of the same inspired oxygen concentration as that of room air. These results indicate that, in case rapid emergence from anesthesia is required, balanced anesthesia with high concentration nitrous oxide and small dose fentanyl should be very useful and safe so long as we make good selections of patients and deliver large tidal volumes to them during artificial ventilation.

Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1997;30(1):181-194
The purpose of this study was to identify population subgroups with similar patterns of diet quality, physical activity, alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking of Korean. The cluster analysis was conducted using the data from Korea National Health Survey(KNHS) in 1995, which consisted of 5,805 persons. We identified six health behavior typologies: 32.9% of the sample had a good diet but sedentary activity level(good diet lifestyle), 7.2% had high activity level but less diet quality(fitness lifestyle). Individuals in the passive lifestyle cluster(39.1%) had no active health promoting activities but tended to avoid risk taking health behavior such as cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking. 1.1% of the sample were in a drinking cluster, 17.2% in a smoking cluster and 2.5% had a hedonic lifestyle characterized by heavy drinking and smoking. The other characteristics of these lifestyle clusters could be presented by demographic and socioeconomic factors.

Journal of Korean Society of Spine Surgery 1997;4(2):350-356
Ossifications of the ligamentum flavum(OLF) and the posterior longitudinal ligament(OPLL) are uncommon clinical entities as a cause of the progressive compression myelopathy or radiculopathy. Although there are considerable literatures concerning OPLL or OLF in cervical and thoracic spine, there are only a few references about OPLL or OLF in the lumbar spine. OLF and OPLL have been reported that they may lead to severe complication only with a minor trauma or even without trauma, such as paraplegia. The authors have experienced 2 cases of OLF accompanied by OPLL In the lumbar spine, who were treated with decompressive laminectomy and excision of ossified ligaments. For its rarity of OLF and OPLL in the lumbar region, we report here with review of literature.
