This study describes an evaluation of the sonographic, cholangiographic, pathological, and immunological findings, and the protective effect shown by rats reinfected with Clonorchis sinensis. Eight experimental rat groups were, namely, a normal control, a primary infection control, a reinfection I (reinfection 7 week after treatment following 3-week infection), a reinfection II (reinfection 2 week after treatment following 8-week infection), a reinfection III (exploration of the intrahepatic bile ducts 1 week after reinfection 4 week after treatment following 4-week infection), a superinfection, a secondary infection control, and an infection following immunization group. Sonographic and cholangiographic findings showed moderate or marked dilatation of the bile duct confluence in the primary infection control, reinfection II, and secondary infection control groups. Juvenile worms survived in the intrahepatic bile ducts 1 week after reinfection following treatment in the reinfection III group. It was concluded that reinfecting juvenile worms found during the first week following reinfection failed to survive or grow further. Anatomical, pathophysiological, or immunological changes may induce protection from reinfection in rats.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1992;28(5):760-762
An echogenic lobulated round mass in the head of pancreas was found during abdominal ultrasonography for routine checkup on a 34 year-old man. CT and MRI showed characteristic findings of lipoma. Clinical followup confirmed intrapnacreatic lipoma, which had been reported only once proviously. This lesion should be added to the list of benign connective tissue tumor of the pancreas.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1997;38(12):2195-2199
We Performed an epidemiologic survey for strabismus among primary school-children in order to investigate the number of strabismus from March 1995 to February 1996. Cover-uncover test and prism cover test were used. The results were as follows:1. Out of 9054 1st grade primary school-children examined, 322(3.56%) were found as strabismus. 2. 322 cases of strabismus include 262(81.4%)exodeviation and 60(18.6%) esodeviation. 3. Alternating type and monocular type strabismus have no difference both in exotropia and esotrapia. 4. In exotropia and esotropia, no sexual predilection was found. 5. Most portion of deviation angle distribute between 11 to 20 prism diopter. 6. The difference of number of strabismus between big cities and small cities was statistically insignificant(p>0.05).

A histopathological study was carried out on the duodenum of mice and rats experimentally infected by F. seoulensis. Each mouse was infected wit 500 metacercariae and killed after 1, 2, 3 days, 1 and 2 weeks from infection. Each rat was given 1,000 metacercariae and was examined after 1, 2, and 4 weeks from infection. The duodenal tissue sections of mice and rats were stained with hematoxylin and eosin, and PAS stained for the rats of 1 week group. The pathological findings are summarized as below. There were no differences in mucosal findings between the mice and the rats, adn between the location of duodenum, 1 and 5 cm distal to the pylorus. Each worm embraced a villus exclusively with its foliate forebody which was inserted into the intervillous spaces. The fluke pinched villous epithelia using its oral and ventral suckers. The tribocytic organ destroyed the villous epithelia deeply up to the stroma after 3 days from infection. Apparent villous changes were observed in the mice after 3 days from infection. Villous changes were shortening, widening, blunting or fusion. The villous stroma showed edema, microscopic hemorrhage, capillary congestion, dilatation of lymphatics and inflammatory cell infiltration. The cells were lymphocytes, plasma cells, eosinophils and giant cells. Rarely submucosal and transmural inflammation was encountered.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1997;35(1):114-120
BACKGROUND: Tinea pedis is one of the most comrnon dermatoses in the general population. But its prevalence in the general populat, ion was not yet reported in Korea. OBJECTIVE: Prevalence of tinea pedis and associated tinea unguium were checked in the general population. METHODS: Six hundred fifty eight persons from 179 families of the college students were evaluated. Clinical examinatior. for tinea pedis and onychomycosis and collecting scales from the suspicious lesions of the family members were perforrned by educated college students. Then dermatologists exarnined those specimens mycologically by KOH ~tnount and fungal culture. RESULTS: The results were as follows 1. The prevalence of tinea pedis was 41.2% in the studied 658 persons. 2. Among all 271 patients with tinea pedis, 201 strains of dermatophytes were isolated. They were 143 strains of Trichophyton(T) rubrum, 49 strains of T. mentagrophytes and 9 mixed infections of T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes. In the co existence of i,inea pedis and tinea unguiurn, isolated species were corresponding. 3. Among 179 families, 143 families (79.9%) had at least one patient with tinea pedis. The isolated species of derrnatophytes in a farnily were one organism, 71.4% and two or more organisms, 28.6% of 77 familiys with more than one patient. CONCLUSION: In our study, the prevalence rate of tinea pedis was 41.2%. That suggests that tinea pedis is a wide spr .ad disease in healthy adult in Korea.
