Purpose: In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, nursing education will change in a different way than before. The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics of qualitative research on learning experiences for nursing students, and to suggest directions for nursing education geared to the needs of the future. Methods: An integrative review method was used. Based on Whittemore & Knafl’s approach, five steps were applied. Results: Eleven papers met the selection criteria and had above average ratings in quality appraisals. Three characteristics related to the learning experiences of nursing students were derived: (1) overcoming difficulties in the learning process and concentrating on problem-solving, (2) improving self-efficacy through experiencing achievement in the learning process, (3) establishing nursing professionalism, (4) identifying the importance of self-directed and self-reflected learning, and (5) developing teamwork. Conclusion This review found that various learning experiences were conducted for practical experience and learner-oriented learning. Nursing students overcame difficulties to achieve their learning outcomes, and developed their professionalism. Further study is required to comprehensively explore research including other countries, and the experiences of instructors.

BACKGROUND: PUVA therapy has been used to treat psoriasis, vitiligo, and various cutaneous diseases. Psoralens are metabolized in the liver and thus can produce liver damage. OBJECTIVE: This study was done to observe the effect of 5-methoxypsoralen on liver function during photochemotherapy. METHODS: Serum transaminase levels were determined before and during photochemotherapy in eighty patients with vitiligo or psoriasis. RESULTS: Four of the eighty patients who had received 5-MOP-PUVA showed elevation of serum transaminase levels. CONCLUSION: Although there have been few cases showing transient elevated values of serum transaminase during 5-MOP-PUVA, it is advisable to obtain liver function tests before and serially during photochemotherapy.

METHODS: We performed a simulation using the Bioterrorism and Epidemic Outbreak Response Model and varied some important parameters, such as the number of core medical personnel and the number of dispensing clinics. RESULTS: Gaps were identified in the medical surge capacity of the Korean government, especially in the number of medical personnel who could respond to the need for mass prophylaxis against smallpox. CONCLUSIONS The Korean government will need to train 1,000 or more medical personnel for such an event, and will need to prepare many more dispensing centers than are currently available.

The number of patients is increasing and their mean age is also increasing. Proper dietary adjustments are necessary to prevent protein-calorie malnutrition or complications but it is difficult for dialysis patients to adapt to diet therapy due to stress or anorexia. Education does not consider the individual characteristics, knowledge, dietary inhabit education demands, and initial education. The purpose of this study was to identify dialysis patient's nutrition knowledge and, dietary practice and compare those with nutrition education or counseling demands for providing basic data of desirable nutrition management. The data were collected by a survey consisting of the general characteristics, disease related characteristics, nutrition education and counsel characteristics, level of nutrition knowledge, diet therapy, and nutrition education and counsel demands from the 28th March to 22th July 2017. The total number of subjects were 33 patients among dialysis patients at two tertiary medical institutions and an artificial kidney room at a private hospital in Incheon·Gyeonggi. The data collected were analyzed statistically using the SPSS program 23.0, followed by further analyses using frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA, cross analysis, and correlation analysis. The results of the dialysis patients showed that younger (P < 0.05), female (P < 0.05), abnormal high school diploma (P < 0.001) groups had high nutrition scores. In addition, dietary practice and nutrition education and counsel demands showed a positive correlation (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). In particular, females were higher than males in nutrition knowledge, dietary practice, nutrition education, and counseling demand scores.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to explore the role of clinical nursing instructors' lived experience in clinical practicum.METHODS: Data were collected from 11 clinical nursing instructors by in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using content analysis of Downe-Wamboldt (1992).RESULTS: Four themes and twelve subthemes were extracted. 1) Recognizing and conducting the roles of clinical nursing instructor: ‘Helping and providing support for successful clinical practicum’, ‘Coordinating clinical activities in daily practice’, ‘Providing mentoring as an elder in life’; 2) Participating in improving integrative nursing competency: ‘Helping to improve cognitive competency’, ‘Helping to improve functional competency’, ‘Contributing to form desirable professionalism’, ‘Helping to deliberate the nature of nursing’; 3) Experiencing difficulties in performing the role of clinical nursing instructor: ‘Facing with difficulty from institutional limits’, ‘Recognizing difficulty from lack of personal knowledge and experience’; 4) Experiencing value of clinical nursing instructor and accomplishing personal growth: ‘Making efforts to widen personal knowledge and experience’, ‘Developing one's own educational competency’, ‘Making a chance to reflect oneself’.CONCLUSION: Despite the distinctive features of clinical nursing instructors, little is known of the characteristics. The results of this study could be used as a reference to improve the quality of clinical nursing education.

In response to the global spread of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), many countries have expanded access to non-contact healthcare. This study aimed to investigate the current state of non-contact healthcare in developed countries before and after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and examine the potential clinical and political implications applicable to Korea. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, non-contact healthcare was provided to a limited extent. However, given the surge in COVID-19 cases, countries have lifted the restrictions on non-contact healthcare by expanding eligibility to patients and providers and the range of services. Countries that were slow to implement non-contact healthcare before the pandemic experienced a paradigm shift. Noncontact healthcare has advantages in maintaining essential health services while protecting patients and providers from viral infections. In Korea, non-contact healthcare was regarded as a business sector, so it has not been formally discussed from a public health standpoint. Given this global urgency, discussions should begin surrounding how to best utilize non-contact healthcare, considering the values, safety, and efficacy from the perspective of continuity of patient care. Non-contact healthcare should shift to utilizing a patient-centered approach. The step-by-step strategic planning of non-contact healthcare is imperative for ensuring value, quality, equity, and safety of services.

This study analyzed parents’ perceptions of pediatric dentistry and pediatric dental specialists, identified factors influencing their choice of dental practice for children, and compared perceptions between those with and without pediatric dentistry experience. A nationwide online survey (February 15 - 19, 2024) was conducted among 500 parents of children aged 15 years or younger: 170 from Seoul/Gyeonggi/ Incheon, 100 each from Chungcheong, Gyeongsang, Jeolla, and 30 from Gangwon. Data covered demographics, factors influencing dentist selection for children, awareness of pediatric dentists, and insights on whether parents had visited a pediatric dentist. 75.6% had visited a pediatric dental clinic, and 49.6% recognized pediatric dental specialists. Among visitors, 59.5% were aware of pediatric dental specialists, compared to 18.9% of non-visitors. Furthermore, 90.7% of parents aware of pediatric dental specialists had visited a clinic, versus 60.7% of those unaware. The highest visit rates were among parents with three children, especially aged 7 - 9. Awareness of pediatric dental specialists was highest among parents in their 20s, living in Gangwon, Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon regions, with professional occupations and household monthly incomes of 7.5 - 8.5 million won. Parents with experience visiting pediatric dental clinics prioritized dentists’ expertise; those without experience prioritized short waiting times. Prior experience with pediatric dental clinics significantly increased the intention to revisit and reduced hesitation. Improving parents’ perceptions of pediatric dentists enhances decision-making and accessibility for children’s specialized dental care. Professional associations must raise awareness of pediatric dentistry. Pediatric dentists should prioritize expertise and advance their specializations in pediatric orthodontics.
