The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of diabetes education program on Glucose Metabolism(blood sugar. HbAlc) and Lipid Metabolism(total cholesterol. triglyceride. low density lipoprotein. high density lipoprotein). Self-efficacy in non-insulin independent diabetes mellitus. The study design was a non equivalent control group pre-test post-test design. Data for the study were collected from March 12 to June 19, 2001. Sixty-two research subjects were assigned to experimental (36) and control (26) groups. The collected data was analyzed using the Chi-Square test. t-test by spsswin program The results are as follows: 1. Experimental group had higher level of glucose metabolism than control group(FBS: t=-3.317. p=.002. HbAlc: t=-4.956. p=.000). 2. Level of lipid metabolism were partly a significant different between experimental group and control group(Triglyceride: t=-2.108. p=.039). 3. Experimental group had higher efficacy score than control group(t=4.651. p=.000). In conclusion. the study supported the effects of diabetes education program to increase metabolism and self-efficacy. Further study with a longitudinal design is suggested to verify the effect of diabetes education program in NIDDM and standardized diabetes education program.

5.Physical Activity and Fatigue in Patients with Cancer.
Journal of Korean Oncology Nursing 2010;10(1):30-37
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between physical activity and fatigue in patients with cancer. METHODS: The participants of the study were 118 patients who had been diagnosed with cancer at least more than three months before at a university hospital. Physical activity was measured by IPAQ Korean version (2006), and fatigue by the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale. The collected data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient. RESULTS: Continuous physical activity overall in this study was on average 2,154.03+/-2,845.86 MET, and the overall degree of fatigue of the participants was 4.47+/-1.80. There were significant negative correlations between fatigue and moderate physical activity. CONCLUSION: The findings of the study suggested that moderate physical activity is effective for improving fatigue in cancer patients.

BACKGROUND: Ischemic preconditioning(a prior short period of coronary artery occlusion) has been known to have protective effects on ischemia-induced myocardial injury. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of hypoxic preconditioning or ischemic preconditioning on the

Cyclosporine nephropathy was induced by intraperitoneal injection of cyclosporine 25 mg/kg in Sprague-Dawley rats daily for 1, 4, 8, and 12 weeks to clarify the relationship between cyclosporine nephropathy and the expression of TGF-beta1 with extracellular matrix deposition. On light microscopic examination, the kidneys in the 12 week cyclosporine-treated rats showed focal or striped fibrosis, vacuolization of tubular cells, and injury of endothelial cells. Immunohistochemically, TGF-beta1 protein was strongly expressed in the cyclosporine-treated rat kidneys, especially in the glomerular endothelial cells, interstitial endothelial cells, tubular epithelial cells, and parietal cells in the Bowman's capsule of the glomerulus as well as the periglomerular arterioles. The amount of TGF-beta1 expression was correlated with the morphological change in the cyclosporine-treated rats. Extracellular matrix, such as fibronectin and collagen IV, was also expressed in the endothelial cells of the glomerulus and the interstitium. It can be concluded, therefore that TGF-beta1 protein is probably involved in the early stage of fibrogenesis in cyclosporine nephropathy. It can be postulated that cyclosporine nephropathy results from the accumulation of extracellular matrix associated with the increase of TGF-beta1 transcription. Therefore, these results could be used in reducing fibrosis in cyclosporine nephropathy.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1999;37(5):620-623
Lanolin is a complex material consisting of a mixture of numerous esters and polyesters of high-moleculer-weight alcohols and fatty acids, Lanolin allergy is important because lanolin is widely used as an emulsifier in topical medicaments and in numerous cosmetic preparations. We report a case of allergic contact dermatitis in a 27-year-old female. An erythematous pruritic rash develgood around the eyelid developed after applying a new eye cream and was aggravated after applying Cambison ophthalmic ointment. Patch testing showed positive reactions to Cambison ophthalmic ointment, 30% wool alcohol, Amerchol L101 and Nivea cream. A use test with 100% Cambison ophthalmic ointment base was positive

Korean Journal of Pathology 1997;31(8):765-772
We studied the ultrastructural alteration of glomerular anionic sites in 6 patients with minimal change nephrotic syndrome, 5 patients with membranous glomerulonephritis, 4 patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, and 4 patients with IgA nephropathy by staining with polyethyleneimine (PEI) as a cationic probe. The control study was examined by using a nephrectomy specimen of non-glomerular disease which had no proteinuria. This method seems to selectively stain heparan sulphate in the basement membranes and has been widely used to evaluate changes in basement membrane charge in various human diseases as well as in experimental studies. The anionic sites in the lamina rara interna and lamina densa of normal glomerular basement membrane were always less numerous and less regularly distributed than those in the lamina rara externa. Characteristic common findings in these glomeruli showed a marked decrease of glomerular anionic sites in the regions with immune-complex deposits and normal distribution in the regions with focally those being absorbed and newly forming glomerular basement membrane. They were not detected in the gap of the basement membrane and on the area of the detached overlying epithelium using the PEI method. But the foot process fusion of epithelial cells seems not to influence the loss of anionic sites on the glomerular basement membrane.
