Necleolar organizer regions(NORs) ARE LOOPS OF DNA which transcribe to ribosomal RNA by RNA polymerase I. Since NOR-associated proteins are argyrophilic, silver staining method has been used for demonstration of AgNORs. The numbers and/or configurations of NORs may reflect the activities of cells in hyperplastic and neoplastic conditions. To evaluated the applicability of AgNORs in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, the author had performed silver staining on the routinely processed, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded sections of 14 cases of normal liver(control), 23 cirrhotic liver, and 21 hepatocellular carcinoma. The results are summarized as follows: 1) The mean number of AgNORs per nucleus(mAgNOR) of normal liver, cirrhotic liver and hepatocellular carcinoma was 1.45+/-0.07, 2.53+/-0.38 and 5.52+/-1.63, respectively. The difference of mAgNOR between normal and cirrhotic liver, and between cirrhotic liver and hepatocellular carcinoma was statistically significant, respectively(p<0.01). 2) The percentage of nuclei showing five or more AgNORs per nucleus(pAgNOR) was 0.07% in normal liver, 7.59% in cirrhotic liver, and 60.49% in hepatocellular carcinoma. 3) AgNORs in hepatocellular carcinoma were large, pleomorphic and irregularly clumped, in addition to increase of mAgNOR and high pAgNOR. In conclusion, the increase of mAgNOR, high pAgNOR and large, irregular AgNORs are regarded as an additional helpful finding for the histopathological diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1996;30(3):218-227
An immunohistochemical stain for p53 tumor suppressor gene product was performed in 59 primary lung cancers to study the relation between its expression and type of the tumor, degree of tumor differentiation, clinical stage and smoking. The results were as follows: 1. The expression of mutant p53 protein was noted in 28 of 59 cases(47.5%) of primary lung cancers. The p53 protein was expressed in 21 of 35(60%) squamous cell carcinomas, in 6 of 21(28.6%) adenocarcinomas, and 1 of 1(100%) small cell carcinoma. There was a significant difference in expression of p53 among the different histologic types of lung cancer(p<0.05). 2. The incidence of p53 protein expression did not correlate with the degree of tumor cell differentiation or the clinical stage of lung carcinoma(p>0.05). 3. The incidence of p53 protein expression was higher in smokers(current: 75%, former: 46.2%) than in non-smokers(5.6%) and was increased in direct proportion to the pack years. There was a statistically significant correlation between p53 expression and smoking(p<0.05). The mutation of p53 gene may often be an early event in the development of lung cancer and it is suggested that the smoking known as a risk factor for the development of the lung cancer may be associated with the transformation of p53 tumor suppressor gene into mutant p53 gene or oncogene.

Hemangiopericycic maningioma is clinically and pathologically similar to peripheral Hemangiopericytoma and now tends to be terned as hemangiopericytoma of central nervous system. The authors studied 3 cases of hemangiopericytic meningioma obtained from 3 patients, 1 case of meningotheliomatous meningioma, angioblastic meningioma and transitional meningioma, and 2 cases of peripheral hemangiopericytoma, which had operated from November 1988 to May 1989 at the department of neurosurgery, Pusan Inje University Hospital. The authors analysed and compared the immunohistochemical finding and light microscopic apearance. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1) Classic maningioma (meningotheliomatous meningioma, transitional meningioma and angioblastic meningioma) shows reactivity to both EMA and vimentin. 2) Hemangiopercicytic meningioma and peripheral hemangiopericytoma are reactive only to vimentin, so the two tumors are suggested as same type of tumor. 3) One of 3 cases of hemangiopericytic meningioma shows whorling and interlacing bundles of spindle cells, the peculiar light microscopic features of transitional meningioma, suggesting transitional or mixed form of hemangiopericytic meningioma and transitional meningioma.

6.Morphologic Study of Renal Arteries in Rats Fed High-salt Diet.
Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1984;1(1):107-113
To evaluate the morphologic changes of the renal arteries in the condition of high-salt diet, we scheduled the control group which fed routine animal diet added 0.06% of Sodium chloride, low-salt group which fed with 2.0% of sodium chloride, and high-Salt group which fed with 8.0% of sodium chloride. The experimental animals were sacrificed every two weed until 20 weeks of final experimental week. The results obtained were as follow; 1. Slight intimal thickening of the renal arteries is observed from 16th experimental week and continued the end of the experiment in the rats of control group. 2. In low-salt group slight intimal thickening of the renal arteries is observed from 12th experimental week and continued to the end of the experiment. 3. In high-salt group the intimal thickening began from 6th experimental week and its degree was hasten with week, and provoked moderate to high degree of lesion at the end of the experiment. Medial proliferation and degeneration of the intima and media, though their quality is mild, also associated at the end of the experiment.

7.A Study on the Dysmenorrhea in College Female Students.
Korean Journal of Women Health Nursing 2002;8(1):85-95
This study was undertaken to obtain the incidence of dysmenorrhea and differance of dysmenorrhea according to the general characteristics, lifestyle, and menstrual pattern in women community college students. For the data collection, self-administered questionnaire survey was made from April 7, 1999 to April 14, 1999 among the 204 women community college students. The resultant data were processed by SAS program for frequency, proportion, and Chi-square test. The results of this study are as follows ; 1) Prevalence rate of dysmenorrhea was 81.9%. Among women who had dysmenorrhea, 42.6% of them had family history on dysmenorrhea, 47% of them experienced the dysmenorrhea 'monthly', 89.2% of them had experienced dysmenorrhea on the first-second day, 38.5% of them responded that the most painful region was 'low abdomen', 61.5% of them responded that they used 'analgesics' to soothe dysmenorrhea, 92.3% of them responded that they had analgesics without doctor's prescription, and 42.6% of them responded that they experienced digestive system related symptoms during menstrual period. 2) The incidence of dysmenorrhea was significantly different by ordering of sisters, blood type, and body shape. 3) The incidence of dysmenorrhea was no significantly different by life style. 4) The incidence of dysmenorrhea was no significantly different by menstrual pattern.

9.A Study on the Lived Experiences of the Family Caregivers in Senile Dementia.
Journal of Korean Academy of Adult Nursing 1998;10(3):492-505
The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the lived experience of the family caregivers with the demented elderly. For investigate purposes of this study, data collection was done from May 9th to October 16th 1997, by means of in-depth interviews with 6 individuals in caregiving families. The research question was "What are the lived experiences of being a family caregiver with the demented elderly? "All interviews were tape-recorded and transcribed for the analysis using Colaizzi's method. The main results of this study were as follows : 1) Family caregivers ascribed the cause of the dementia to 'environmental change' and the 'introverted personality of the elderly'. 2) Family caregivers let the demented elderly alone initially and then they restrained the elderly who was in a fit of dementia. 3) The coping response of family caregivers varied. The coping reponses were (1) having their moods go up and down, (2) enduring and praying, (3) avoiding the elderly, (4) hoping for release from responsibility, (5) enduring their conditions(obligations), (6) accepting the elderly, (7) taking an objective view, and (8) taking safety measures. 4) The long ordeal of coping with a demented elderly person resulted in the (1) loss of physical and psychological well-being, (2) ethical conflicts, (3) family conflicts, (4) become desperate, (5) rejection of the aging process, (6) sympathy and understanding for the elderly, (7) awareness that the support system is important and (8) hope of sharing their responsibility. The results of this study may help nurses to understand the lived experiences of the family caregivers with the demented elderly better, in order to provide more basic data for the development of educational programs for dementia family caregivers. It may help to make the coping process easier and more successful for the family members of the demented elderly.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1994;28(4):442-444
Congenital esophageal stenosis due to tracheobronchial remnants is one of main forms of congenital esophageal stenosis, and it was first described by Frey and Duschel in l936. An 18-month-old male presented with underdevelopment and dehydration state due to persistent vomiting several times per day since 3 months after his birth. Esophagogram revealed an elongated and diiated esophagus with marked stenosis at distal portion. Partial distal esophagectomy was performed. Histologically, the thickened esophageal wall is composed of tracheobronchial remnants including hyaline cartilages, mucous glands, and ductal structures lined by ciliated respiratory epithelium under stratified squamous mucosa.
