Pertussis cases have increased sharply since June 2024, showing a nationwide epidemic, with a large increase among adolescents aged 13–15 years. As of August 2024, the national incidence rate of pertussis was estimated to be 37.75 per 100,000 population, with the highest incidence of 526.2 per 100,000 population in 13-year-olds. In Europe, during 2023–2024, an increase in pertussis incidence among infants was observed, along with large increases in 10–19-yearolds. In China, the number of reported cases of pertussis has increased rapidly since late 2023, with an age shift to older children, increase of vaccine escape, and a marked increase in the prevalence of macrolide-resistant Bordetella pertussis. The recent global resurgence of pertussis is due to decreased opportunities for boosting immunity by natural infection during the COVID-19 pandemic in combination with waning of immunity-induced pertussis vaccines.

Background and Objectives: Surgical decision-making for papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) relies on accurate preoperative staging, where ultrasonography plays a crucial role in predicting outcomes. We aimed to analyze the predictive effects of preoperative sonographic findings on pathological characteristics. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study was performed using ultrasonographic images and clinico-pathologic data of papillary thyroid cancer patients who underwent total thyroidectomy or lobectomy between March 2016 and May 2020. Finally, 152 patients and 169 tumors were analyzed. Results: Mean age of patients was 54.2±14.2 years and the proportion of female was 75.7%. Tumor size was 13.6±10.3 mm and the proportions of extrathyroidal extension (ETE) and lymph node (LN) involvement were 52.2% and 23.0%, respectively. Preoperative sonographic findings, including ETE, tumor margin, echogenicity, and K-TIRDAS, were significantly associated with pathological ETE.Other pathological characteristics, including LN involvement, lymphovascular invasion, and resection margin positivity, were more observed in patients with more aggressive findings on preoperative sonography; however, we could not find statistical significances. Conclusion This study showed that preoperative sonographic characteristics, such as sonographic ETE, tumor margin, echogenicity, and K-TIRADS, can provide valuable insights into predicting pathological ETE in PTC patients.

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common chronic skin inflammatory diseases in children. Appropriate treatment is difficult due to chronic course with frequent exacerbations, especially in children. Treatment requires caution due to a lack of safety data and information regarding the long-term prognosis of management strategies. The Korean Academy of Pediatric Allergy and Respiratory Disease (KAPARD) published the Atopic Dermatitis Treatment Guidelines in 2008, which has been used to direct atopic dermatitis treatment. Accumulating evidence suggests that the guidelines need to be updated regarding bathing methods (duration of bath, temperature, etc.), wet wrap therapy, and topical treatments in line with environmental changes over time and changes in the management strategies of atopic dermatitis. This KAPARD guidelines for atopic dermatitis applied an adaptation based on a systematic review and analysis of selected literature. They are intended to support front-line doctors treating pediatric and adolescent patients with atopic dermatitis in making reasoned, safe, effective empirical treatment decisions. In Part I of the KAPARD guidelines for atopic dermatitis, we included evidence-based skin care management strategies and topical treatment options.
