Objective To study the relationship between the grading of schistosomiasis japonica hepatic lesions by B-ultrasonography and the portal vein and splenic vein haemodynamics. Methods The grades of 125 schistosomiasis patients’ hepatic lesions were determined by Doppler ultrasonography according to the method recommended by WHO/TDR. The portal vein and splenic vein inner diameters and blood flow velocity were examined and the portal vein and splenic vein volumes of blood flow were calculated in the patients above mentioned and 51 normal persons. Results The inner diameters, blood flow velocity and volumes of blood flow of portal vein and splenic vein in the patients were significantly different from those in the normal persons, and also there were significant differences among the patients with different degrees of fibrosis. Conclusions The changes of schistosomiasis patients’ portal vein haemodynamics is connect with the liver parenchyma characteristics. The step up of the ratio of blood flow volume of splenic vein with the portal vein is breakdown with the aggravate of the hepatic lesion.

Objective To evaluate the relationship between preoperative MRI characteristics and the perioperative outcomes of microvascular decompression in primary trigeminal neuralgia. Methods To analyze the relationship between preoperative MRI characteristics and the perioperative outcomes in 103 primary trigeminal neuralgia patients with micro-vascular decompression in Nanfang Hospital. The MRI features such as the ratio of CPA area, TGN cross-sectional area and TGN length was evaluated together with the TGN oppression distance, the position of TGN, the position of basilar ar-tery and the type of offending vessel as well as the outocmes including complete disappearance, temporary remission and ineffectiveness. Results Univariate analysis showed that the oppression orientation (P=0.017), oppression distance (P<0.001), offending vascular type (P=0.016), TGN cross-sectional area ratio (P<0.001) were the influencing factors of periop-erative outcomes. Logistic regression analysis showed that the offending vascular type (P=0.002)and TGN cross-sectional area ratio (P=0.020) were the main predictive factors of perioperative outcomes of microvascular decompression. Conclu-sions Preoperative thin slice MRI scanning showed that the offending artery, non-atrophy nerve roots, far distance from op-pression point to brainstem may be the favorable factors of perioperative outcomes of microvascular decompression.

Objective To evaluate the expression and clinical significance of Periostin (POSTN) in craniopharyngi?oma. Methods Forty-two patients with pathologically diagnosed adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma involving the floor of 3rd ventricle were retrospectively analyzed. The correlation between expression of POSTN and outcome was studied. Results POSTN was expressed in stroma of craniopharyngioma tissues. The expression of POSTN was not associated with the postoperative recurrence (Z=-0.236,P=0.813) while was associated with the degree of the adhesion between tumor and floor of 3rd ventricle (r=0.685, P<0.001), postoperative Hypothalamic Status Scale (r=0.569, P<0.001) and Body Mass Index (r=0.594, P<0.001). Conclusions POSTN may predict the degree of the adhesion between craniopharyngioma and 3rd ventricle floor. The high expression of POSTN may indicate the worse hypothalamus function.

ObjectiveTo compare the effects on left ventricular remodeling of bone marrow mononuclear cells transplantation one week and three months after acute myocardial infarction.MethodsAcute myocardial infarction models were successfully established in 15 swine, which were randomly divided into three groups:placebo group, early transplantation group and late trasplantation group. One week after model had been established, early transplantation group underwent bone marrow mononuclear cells transplantation, and then so did the late trasplantation group three months after acute myocardial infarction.B-ultrasound and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) examinations were performed to assess the left ventricular end diastolic dimension( LVd),left ventricular end diastolic volume(EDV) and left ventricular ejection fraction(EF) before and one week, three months, six months after acute myocardial infarction.ResultsThe LVd of late transplantation group [ (54.20:t:3.70) mm] was lower than placebo group [ (63.20 ±5.63)mm],but higher than early transplantation group [ (47.40 ± 1.14)mm].The EDV of late transplantation group [ ( 163.00 ±6.96)ml] was lower than placebo group [ (209.40 ± 18.69)ml],but higher than early transplantation group [ ( 135.40 ± 4.93 ) ml ].The EF of late transplantation group (0.25 ±0.02) was higher than placebo group (0.19 ±0.02),but lower than early transplantation group (0.37 ±0.02).ConclusionsBone marrow mononuclear cells transplantation can alleviate progressing ventricular remodeling, even it is performed three month after acute myocardial infarction, but its therapeutic effects are inferior to early transplantation's.

OBJECTIVETo characterize the flowability of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) powders by using appropriate methods.
METHODWith highly flowable direct compression excipients and Chinese traditional medicine powder as raw materials, the flowability of material powders is determined by the Carr method and the Jenike method.
RESULTThe Carr method and the Jenike method for the determination of the flowability of Chinese herb extract powder and direct-pressing excipients have no obvious difference. But the flowability of Chinese herb extract powder is not as good as direct compression excipients.
CONCLUSIONFrom the characterization results of both methods, we can find that the Carr method better reflects the actual flowability of TCM extracts, while the Jenike method can be used for guiding the design of the hopper device.

OBJECTIVETo investigate whether the four boys with delayed motor development and intellectual disability suffer from MECP 2 duplication syndrome.
METHODBlood specimens and clinical data of four patients and mothers of patient 2 and patient 4 were collected. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood using DNA extraction kit. At first multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) was employed in 4 patients, two distinct kits SALSA P036 and P070 for sub-telomere screening, and SALSA P245 for the 22 common microdeletion and microduplication syndromes. Then array-CGH analysis was carried out. Two mothers of patients were tested by array- comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and X chromosome inactivation analysis.
RESULTAll the 4 patients presented with severe hypotonia, delayed motor development, intellectual disability and absent or limited language. Three patients manifested recurrent pneumonia in infancy except patient 2. Four patients had duplication on chromosome Xq28 with MLPA kit SALSA P245. Array-CGH identified the size of each duplication on Xq28. The precise size of each duplication was different in the four patients: patient 1, 14.931 Mb, patient 2, 0.393 Mb, patient 3, 0.482 Mb and patient 4, 0.299 Mb. To compare Xq28 duplications with UCSC database (http://genome.ucsc.edu/) revealed that each duplication harbors the MECP 2 and HCFC 1 gene. Mothers of patient 2 and patient 4 also carried microduplication on Xq28. X chromosome inactivation analysis demonstrated completely skewed inactivation (0: 100) and it is the inactive allele that passed on to the patients.
CONCLUSIONFor patients that present with delayed motor development, intellectual disability, hypotonia, absent or limited language and recurrent infection, combination of MLPA and array- CGH is effective and specific diagnostic methods of MECP 2 duplication syndrome.
