As the development of functional and molecular imaging,PET/CT gradually becomes one of methods in optimizing cancer radiotherapy treatment planning.Currently, numerous hospitals routinely use 18F-FDG PET/CT for the delineation of target volume in esophageal carcinoma (EC).However, the validity of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the delineation of target volume for EC is limited and needs further clinical validation. This review focuses on the value and validity of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the delineation of gross tumor target volume of EC primary lesions and regional lymph nodes.

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to test the accuracy and precision of iWitness photogrammetry for measuring the facial tissues of mannequin head.
METHODSUnder ideal circumstances, the 3D landmark coordinates were repeatedly obtained from a mannequin head using iWitness photogrammetric system with different parameters, to examine the precision of this system. The differences between the 3D data and their true distance values of mannequin head were computed.
RESULTSOperator error of 3D system in non-zoom and zoom status were 0.20 mm and 0.09 mm, and the difference was significant (P 0.05). Image captured error of 3D system was 0.283 mm, and there was no significant difference compared with the same group of images (P>0.05). Error of 3D systen with recalibration was 0.251 mm, and the difference was not statistically significant compared with image captured error (P>0.05). Good congruence was observed between means derived from the 3D photos and direct anthropometry, with difference ranging from -0.4 mm to +0.4 mm.
CONCLUSIONThis study provides further evidence of the high reliability of iWitness photogrammetry for several craniofacial measurements, including landmarks and inter-landmark distances. The evaluated system can be recommended for the evaluation and documentation of the facial surface.

Objective To study the function of the nano-molecular polyamide-amine (PAMAM) as microRNA(miR) carrier targeting gastric adenocarcinoma, and the foundation of developing an efficient delivery of small molecule drugs tar-geting gastric cancer thereof. Methods The folic acid (FA)/PAMAM comoles compound was prepared by dialysis method. After transfection of miR-7 or liposomes into SGC-7901 cell line, fluorescence microscope was used to detect the gene trans-fect efficiency. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the miR-7 level. The immu-nocytochemistry assay was used to test the protein expressions of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), protein kinase B (PKB) and proliferating cell nuclearantigen (PCNA). The transwell system was utilized to explore the migration ability of tu-mor cells. Results Compared with liposme, FA/PAMAN complex compound can significantly improve the level of miR-7 in SGC-7901 cells, reduce the protein levels of EGFR, PKB and PCNA in SGC-7901 cells, and also reduce the percentage of cancer cell migration (P<0.05). Conclusion PAMAM can effectively transfect miR into gastric cancer cells, which is expected to become an efficient delivery of small molecule drugs.

Objective To evaluate the results of surgically treated Chiari Ⅰ malformation (CMI) with posterior fossa decompression and reconstruction techniques. Methods Sixty-nine patients with CMI malformation underwent posterior fossa reconstruction. The operation involes dissection soft tissue from the suboccipital region, decompression by removing the posterior rim of the foramen magnum. Then the dura was opened widely with Y shape,as it often acts as a constricting band, particularly at the level of the foramen magnum. After dissecting the subarachnoid adhesions in cisterna magna with microsurgery techniques, dissecting part of the tonsillar hernia, opening the foramen of Magendie into the 4th ventricle and closing the dura using artificial dura mater, cranial bone flaps was repositioned centrally along the inferior edge of the craniectomy defect,so as to support the dura over the cerebellar hemispheres. Results Until the final follow-up,the clinical symptoms were improved in 56 patients,3 had recurrence after 1 year postoperatived,4 had recurrenced after 2 years postoperatived, and 87.5% patients were stable. The patients took followed-up MRI at least once form 3 months to 6 months, and 13 cases were lost. One case with tension pneumocephalus, and 5 cases with subcutaneous effusion and cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) incision leakage. There were no death and disability.Thirty-one cases favors the development of syringomyelia,6 showed the stable of syringomyelia, and 2 had an increased size of the cavity. Conclusion Dissecting the subarachnoid adhesions in cisterna magna with microsurgery techniques, dissecting part of the tonsillar hernia, opening the foramen of Magendie into the 4th ventrica, and circulation of CSF pathway are important to improve thetherapeutic effect of CMI.It is also very important to decompression with small cranial bone flaps, closing the dura using artificial dura mater under no tension, and bone structure reconstruction in the clinical practice.

Objective:To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and the improvements of patients’ pulmonary ventilation function and 6-minute walk test (6-MWT) distance. Methods:A total of 80 COPD patients [grade 3-4 in Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD), qi deficiency of the lung and kidney in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) pattern] were randomly allocated into a treatment group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). Salmeterol Xinafoate and Fluticasone Propionate powder (Seretide,50μg/250μg) for inhalation was used for basic treatment in both groups (once in the morning and once in the evening). Patients in the treatment group received acupuncture at Feishu (BL 13), Shenshu (BL 23), Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Dingchuan (EX-B 1), Danzhong (CV 17) and Zusanli (ST 36) twice a week for 3 months. After 3 months of treatment, clinical effects, lung ventilation functions and 6-MWT distance were observed and compared in the two groups. Results:After 3 months of treatment, the total effective rate was 95.0% in the treatment group, versus 80.0% in the control group, showing a statistical difference (P<0.05); the phlegm expectoration, dyspnea and shortness of breath were more significantly improved in the treatment group than those in the control group (P<0.01,P<0.05); and the 6-MWT distance and forced expiratory volume in 1 second percentage of predicted value (FEV1%) were more significantly improved in the treatment group than those in the control group (P<0.05,P<0.01). Conclusion:Seretide inhaler combined with acupuncture can improve signs and symptoms in COPD patients, increase the 6-MWT distance, improve FEV1% and obtain better results than Seretide alone.

Objective To explore the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of Shuangwu numbness-relief decoction. Methods The anti-inflammatory effect was assessed by xylene-induced mouse auricular swelling and peritoneal capillary permeability;and the analgesic effect was assessed by hot plate method and acetic acid-induced twisting method. Results Shuangwu numbness-relief decoction at moderate or high dose had a significant inhibitory effect on mouse auricular swelling, with a significant difference as compared with the control group (P<0.01);the decoction at low , moderate , or high dose group played a marked inhibitory role in the increase in mouse peritoneal capillary permeability (P<0.01). Shuangwu numbness-relief decoction at moderate or high dose effectively reduced the writhing frequency in mice (P < 0.01). The decoction at high dose increased the pain threshold in mice one hour after intragastric administration (P < 0.05), and the decoction at moderate or high dose increased the pain threshold two hours after administration (P < 0.05). Conclusions Shuangwu numbness-relief decoction has an obvious anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.
