For the more practical and convenient application of the Tzanck test, we evaluated several staining methods and cytological findings 98 cases of vesicobullous skin diseases. Fixation by air-drying of specimen aad modified Giemsa staining method were thought to be the most appropriate procedure in clinical use. The disease studied were chickenpox, herpes zoster & simplex, contact dermatitis, Id reaction, tinea pedis, urticaria pigmentosa, incontinentia pigmenti, farnilial benign pemphigus, hand-foot-mouth disease, erytherna multiforme, toxic epiderrzal necrolysis, fixed drug eruption, and septic vesicle. Among these, herpes and chickenpox vesicles shawed the most characteristic and specific findings. And degenerating giant cell could be added as an useful diagnostic marker for these diseases in relatively old lesions. In the other diseases, cytological findings were neither charcteristic nor specific. But these findings suggested the possibility of picking up useful findings by more elaborated study including more large number of cases.

BACKGROUND: It is now well known that oxygen free radicals act as mediators of cellular injury in many cardiovascular diseases. Although some evidences have been presented for an altered number of adrenergic receptors in heart disease, a detailed examination of the interaction of free radicals with cardiac adrenergic receptors has little been carried out. METHODS: This study is therefore undertaken to examine the influences of adrenergic blocking agents(propranolol, prazosin) and cyclooxygenase inhibitor(aspirin) on the cardiac damage by oxygen free radicals. Ischemic condition of the isolated rat heart was made by Langendorff preparation, and then measured superoxide dismutase(SOD), lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) released in the perfusate, and malondialdhyde(MDA) concentration in the cardiac tissue. RESULTS: We obtained the results that increased SOD activity and tendency of decreased LDH activity by the pretreatment of propranolol, prazosin, and aspirin in cardiac ischemic-reperfusion injury. Those effects were more predominant in adriamycin treated group comparing with not treated group. CONCLUSION: Adrenergic blocking agent, propranolol, prazosin, and aspirin seem to have some protective effect on the reperfusion injury of the heart.

Authors studied on the Acaroid mite in the food, and the following results were obtained. 1) 6 species of Acaroid mite were found among twelve kinds different types of food. a. Tyrophagus dimidiatus, b. Glycyphagus destructor, c. Glycyphagus domesticus, d. Hoshikadania konoi, e. Acarus siro, f. Carphoglyphus lactis. 2) Acaroid mite were not found in the wheat flour and magalin among the twelve different kinds. 3) Acaroid mit were distributed at higher rate in the pollack(94%), cuttle fish(77%) and anchovy(50%).

This report deals with a 49-year-old male farmer who had a pathological fraeture. of the right femoral shaft due to metastatic carcinoma from the middle lobe of the right lung. The lesion of the femur was resected en-bloc and bone stabilization of the fractured bone was obtained by an intramedullary Kiintscher nail plus cement fixation. Two weeks later, a right middle and lower lobectomy was done. Microscopic examination of both specimens from right femur and lung revealed poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. The postoperative course was satisfactory with no recurrence for period of 26 months.

Acrocephalosyndactyly is one of the more unusual and interesting errors of nature (Congenital anomaly) found in the human race. This syndrome was first described by Apert in 1906. Since that time, over 200 cases have been reported. The purpose of this article is to report an additional case along with review of provious literatures.

Twenty three leprous wrist drop hands had been operated for reconstructive surgery at the department of orthopedic surgery Presbyterian Hospital during the period from 1965 to 1972. The follow up study was carried out on twelve hands from six months to 82 months and was evaluated by the following assessments. 1. Function 2. Appearance 3. Environmental use and patients satisfaction in result The results were as follows 1. Satisfactory result was 84.1% in function, 66.7% in appearance, 75% in environmental use and patients satisfaction, and 75.3% in overall total assessment. 2. As complication, a case of adhesion of the transfered tendon was noted. 3. Preoperative and postoperative physiotherapy contributed an important roll in the end results.
