AIM: To study the infiltration of polymorphonuclear neutrophils ( PMNs ) after conjunctival flap covering in alkali-burned cornea.
●METHODS: Rabbit cornea alkali-burned model was made, then 50 rabbits were randomly divided into the experimental group ( n=25 ) and the control group ( n=25 ) . At the same time the surgery of conjunctival flap covering was given to rabbits of the experimental group. The condition developing of alkali-burned cornea was observed by slit lamp biomicroscopy, and took photos in two groups. The infiltration of PMNs was identified by hematoxylin eosin ( HE) staining in different periods.
●RESULTS:The quantity of PMNs increased on the 3d, reached the lower level on 7d, shown a peak on the 14d, then decreased gradually. PMNs level of the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the difference of 3, 14 and 21d was significant (P<0. 05).
●CONCLUSION: During the wound healing process, alkali - burned cornea has close relation with the infiltration of PMNs. The treatment of conjunctival flap covering for the severe alkali-burned cornea was found to have good effect.

Objective:To explore the early evaluation value of calprotectin (S100A8/A9) and ischemia modified albumin (IMA) for adult acute appendicitis (AA) and adult non-simple acute appendicitis. Methods:The data of 62 patients with histologically confirmed appendicitis and 57 healthy controls in the physical examination center of our hospital during the same period from May 2018 to October 2019 were collected. According to postoperative pathological data, patients with appendicitis were divided into the simple appendicitis group and the non-simple appendicitis group . The measurement data conforming to normal distribution were expressed as mean ± standard deviation (Mean±SD), and Student's t test was used for comparison between groups. S100A8/A9, IMA, C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), and blood routine parameters were compared after grouping. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the early efficacy of S100A8/A9 and IMA for acute appendicitis and non-simple acute appendicitis. Results:There were no significant differences in sex, age, platelet count (PLT), and red blood cell count (RBC) between the appendicitis group and healthy control (all P>0.05), while white blood cell count (WBC), CRP, PCT, neutrophils to lymphocytes ratio (NLR), S100A8/A9, and IMA levels in the appendicitis group were higher than those in healthy control (all P<0.05). The AUC of S100A8/A9 (≥366.9 μg/L), IMA (≥0.29), and S100A8/A9 combined with IMA in predicting acute appendicitis were 0.735, 0.891, and 0.913, respectively. There was no significant difference in WBC between the non-simple appendicitis group (21 cases) and the simple appendicitis group (41 cases) ( P>0.05).The levels of CRP, PCT, NLR, S100A8/A9 and IMA in the non-simple appendicitis group were significantly higher than those in the simple appendicitis group ( P<0.05). The AUC of S100A8/A9 (≥532.9 μg /L), IMA (≥0.41) and S100A8/A9 combined with IMA in predicting non-simple acute appendicitis were 0.866, 0.873 and 0.936, respectively. Conclusions:S100A8/A9 and IMA could be used as biomarkers for the diagnosis of AA, which have certain clinical value for the assessment of acute appendicitis and non-simple acute appendicitis.

OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical application of mandibular-driven simultaneous maxillo-mandihular distraction to correct hemifacial microsomia with rapid prototyping technology.
METHODSThe patient' s skull resin model was manufactured with rapid prototyping technology. The osteotomy was designed on skull resin model. According to the preoperative design, the patients underwent Le Fort I osteotomy and mandibular ramus osteotomy. The internal mandible distractor was embedded onto the osteotomy position. The occlusal titanium pin was implanted. Distraction were carried out by mandibular-driven simultaneous maxillo-mandihular distraction 5 days after operation.
RESULTSThe distraction in five patients was complete as designed. No infection and dysosteogenesis happened. The longest distance of distraction was 28 mm, and the shortest distance was 16 mm. The facial asymmetry deformity was significantly improved at the end of distraction. The ocelusal plane of patients obviously improved.
CONCLUSIONSRapid prototyping technology is helpful to design precisely osteotomy before operation. Mandibular-driven simultaneous maxillo-mandibular distraction can correct hemifacial microsomia. It is worth to clinical application.

Objective To measure the temperature sensation threshold of trunk skin in healthy adults. Methods The threshold of cold sensation, warm sensation, cold pain sensation and heat pain sensation of trunk skin key points (T3, T7 and T11) were measured with Thermal Sensory Analyzer in 123 healthy adults. Results The thresholds of cold, warm, cold pain and heat pain sensations were obtained. The standard deviation of cold and warm threshold was less than that of heat pain. The range of cold sensation threshold was the largest. The heat pain sensation threshold increased with segmental declining and the sensation threshold increased with age. Conclusion Normal reference value should be established variously with the segment and age. The threshold of cold, warm varies less, while the threshold of cold pain and heat pain varies too much.

Objective To develop an ideal cultural method to amplify embryonic hepatic stem cells and inhibit their differentiation in vitro. Methods Suspension of ED 14 Fischer (F) 344 rat em-bryonic hepatic stem cells was prepared by collagenase digestion and mechanical disaggregation. Then cells were divided into two groups randomly. The cells in group 1 were seeded into type I collagen-coated plates by adherent culture while those in group 2 were seeded into soft agar medium by suspen-sion culture. After culture for 2 weeks, the morphology and ultrastructure of cells in both groups were observed and compared by inverted microscope and transmission electron microscope, respectivley. The expression of CD90. 1 and CD49F, the two specific stem cell surface markers, was tested by flow cytometry to manifest the establishment of embryonic hepatic stem cells. Alkaline phosphatase stai-ning was used to detect stem cell differentiation. Result Embryonic hepatic stem cells in group 2 were characterized by higher nucleus-cytoplasm ratio and less cell organelles, higher expression of CD90. 1 and CD49F, and stronger positive reaction for alkaline phosphatase staining compared with those in group 1. Moreover, the cells in group 1 showed significant differentiation features. Conclusion Em-bryonic hepatic stem cells cultured suspendedly in soft agar medium experience less differentiation than those adherently cultured in serum-added culture medium, and can proliferate and form clone ball with a specific stem cell feature.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2014;39(10):1795-1798
In this study, the processes of pollination ecology of Fritillaria delavayi were investigated to document its reproductive characteristics. Some individuals of F. delavayi could produce seeds under bagging without emasculation (11%), but the rate was significantly lower than that of the natural control (87%). It is suggesting that pollination of F. delavayi largely depends on pollen vectors. Bombus sushikini was the only effective pollinator of F. delavayi and the visitation frequency was 0.003 time xXflower(-1) x min(-1). Flowering of F. delavayi in whole population lasted for 35 d and single flower for 11 d. Pollen viability and stigma receptivity lasted for 9 d and were relatively long compared with other Fritillaria genus plants. Consequently, bumblebee pollination and long floral longevity seem to be important for reproductive assurance of F. delavayi in harsh alpine environments.

Objective To investigate the mechanism of fluoroquinolone resistance in clinical isolates of Enterococcus faecium. Methods The MICs of six fluoroquinolones(norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin, gatifloxacin and moxifloxacin) against 35 clinical isolates of E.faecium from eight hospitals in Tianjin were determined by agar dilution method in the absence or presence of multidrug resistance efflux pump inhibitor reserpine. The quinolone-resistance determining region(QRDR)of parC and gyrA were amplified and sequenced. Results No less than twofold decrease in MIC values of the six fluoroquinolones in the presence of reserpine was observed in 35,29,1,0,6 and 2 of the 35 strains of E.faecium respectively. One fluoro- quinolone-susceptible isolate and five fluoroquinolone-resistant isolates were selected randomly to analyze the QRDR of parC and gyrA.All five fluoroquinolone-resistant isolates had single amino acid alteration in both GyrA and ParC.Ser-80 in ParC was substituted by lie(4 isolates)or Arg(1 isolates).Glu-87 in GyrA was replaced by Lys(2 isolates)or Gly(2 isolates). The other one had an Ser-83-to-Ile substitution. The one fluoroquinolone-suseeptible isolate had no alteration in the QRDR of either ParC or GyrA.Conclusions Both target alteration and active efflux are responsible for the resistance to fluoroquinolone in clinical isolates of E.faecium.
