Aim To investigate and evaluate the effect of ligustrazine on the expression of scavenger receptor type AI, the human ?-interferon activation site (GAS) elements regulatory systems of SR-AI expression wasfirst established in the Xenopus oocytes. Methods A plasmid, in which the human SR-AI gene was constructed downstream from the GAS elements, was microinjected into the nucleus of Xenopus oocytes. The oocytes then were cultured in the smooth muscle cell conditioned medium (SCM), In which the cell were cultured with the treatment of oxLDL for 2 days. In the other groups, the oocytes were treated with SCM containing the nature medicines ligustrazine, and the positive control drug ?-interferon respectively. Results The results demonstrated that SCM could upregulate the expression of SR-AI in this system, this action was suppressed by ligustrazine and ?-interferon. Conclusion Similar to the action of ?-interferon, ligustrazine can prevent the over-expression of SR-A induced by oxLDL, via their effect on the GAS elements regulatory pathway.

Objective To determine the effects of practicing a simplified 24 movement form of Tai chi on the level of inflammatory cytokines and the quality of life of type 2 diabetes patients. Methods A group of type 2 diabetes patients practiced a simplified 24 movement Tai chi routine 60 min/d, 3 d/week for 6 months. Plasma glu-cose and insulin concentration were monitored. The plasma level of IL-6, IL-18, sCD40L, hsCRP and HBAc1 were measured. Changes in the patients' quality of life were also measured by using the SF-36. Results Serum IL-6,IL-18, hsCRP and sCD40L levels were all significantly lower compared with a control group. Significant quality of life improvements were seen in the Tai chi group compared with the controls. Significant reductions were seen in blood pressure, glycated haemoglobin, glucose, insulin resistance and urinary albumin. Conclusions These results sug-gest that regular Tai chi practice can prevent complications and improve the quality of life of diabetes sufferers through glyeaemic control and down-regulating inflammatory cytokine levels.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of hypothyroidism during the second trimester and its relationship with thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb). Methods Two thousand one hundred and forty one pregnant women whose gestational age between 14 to 28 weeks, accepted their prenatal care at the outpatient clinic of International Peace Maternity & Child Health Hospital from March 1,2010 to July 31,2010 were enrolled into this study. Serum TPOAb,thyroidstimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (FT4) of these women were detected. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the risk factors of subclinical hypothyroidism and positive TPOAb,while Spearman rank correlation was used to analyze the relationship between the levels of TSH,FT4 and TPOAb. Results (1) Subclinical hypothyroidism was detected in 13.36% (286/2141) patients. Isolated maternal hypothyroxinemia occurs in 0.14% (3/2141) of pregnant women. No overt hypothyroidism patient was detected and 6.26% (134/2141) of all pregnant women exhibited positive TPOAb(≥50 U/ml).(2) Positive rate of TPOAb in subclinical hypothyroidism group, isolated maternal hypothyroxinemia group and normal thyroid function group was 13.64% (39/286),0/3 and 5.06% (86/1701) respectively, and there was difference among the three groups (x2 =30.82,P<0.01).The positive rate of TPOAb did not relate to fetal gender, maternal age, gestational age, gravidity and parity.(3) TPOAb had positive relationship with TSH level (r=0.12,P<0.01),while did not relate to FT4 level (r=-0.04,P=0.09). (4) Positive TPOAb (OR 3.18,95% CI:2.10-4.83,P<0.01) and gravidity (OR=1.21,95% CI:1.02-1.43,P=0.030)were risk factors of subclinical hypothyroidism. Conclusions Hypothyroidism is common during the second trimester. It is necessary to screen TPOAb in pregnant women as TPOAb is an independent and important predictor of subclinical hypothyroidism.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;(29):4634-4639
BACKGROUND:Previous animal experiments have demonstrated that mandibular advancement can cause the remodeling of temporomandibular joint tissue of young SD rats. This is mainly characterized by accelerated growth rate of the condyle tissue and secondary growth of mandible. But the ultrastructural remodeling of condylar chondrocytes remains poorly understood. OBJECTIVE:To observe the histological and ultrastructural variations of reconstructed condylar cartilage of young rats under the effect of continuous mandibular advancement. METHODS:SD rats aged 4 weeks were randomly divided into control and experimental groups. Rats in the experimental group were subjected to mandibular advancement for 24 hours and sacrificed at 3, 7, 14, 21 and 30 days of intervention. Condylar cartilage samples were harvested and their histological and ultrastructural changes were observed under optical microscope and transmission electron microscope. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After 14 days of intervention, the thickness of condylar cartilage in the experimental group increased first and then became thin in the period of observation. The cartilage thickness variations in the postmedian condylar were significant (P < 0.01). After 7 days of intervention, the ultrastructure of condylar chondrocytes was reconstructed, including intracelular karyopyknosis, rough endoplasmic reticulum compartment sweling, smaler even absent lipid droplets, less and irregular microfilaments around the nucleus, broadened and increased extracelular matrix and the emergence of large gaps. These results demonstrate that under continuous mandibular advancement, the rat condylar cartilage wil become thick or thin with the endurance time, and chondrocyte matrix synthesis ability wil be significantly enhanced.
